Andi Oliver is an award-winning chef and broadcaster. She is a regular face on our television screens, as the host of the Sky Arts Live Book Club, Channel 4's Beat the Chef and Food Unwrapped, and as a contributing chef and host on BBC's Saturday Kitchen. She has also been the host of the BBC's Great British Menu for seven years and has an exciting new show coming to BBC2 Andi Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts, where she goes around the UK discovering local chefs, suppliers and recipes then bringing it back to the community with a legendary Andi style party. Alongside all these achievements she has been collaborating with her daughter, Miquita for many years starting with their TV show on the BBC The Caribbean with Andi and Miquita. This has now morphed into their successful warm and hilarious podcast Stirring It Up which features celebrities and chefs round a table eating and chatting all things food each week, guests include another DK Author Katie Piper.

Once in a blue moon a treasure is found. This book is that treasure. Let me explain.
I come very humble Scottish and Italian roots and hamely cooking & cucina povera is my go to food when I need a hug, need to feel warm and cosy, want to just think of my mum and granny. Two different cuisines, but same methods of cooking - inexpensive, seasonal & soooo tasty. My first look at Andi’s book just hit home with me how simple home cooking is the same globally - just with different ingredients. And the recipes in this book are just fantastic. There are lots of vegetable recipes as well rice, beans, chicken, fish and breads local to the region. Affordable and every recipe can be made at home without too much effort. Every one will give you hug. The bonus for me is that my son in law comes from Antigua - brought up on the island as a boy by his granny and never stops talking about her food. He never did get her recipes and wishes he could recreate them. Many other books written about the region’s cuisine contain recipes that are not home cooking. He had a look at this book earlier and his eyes lit up - lots of memories, lots of familiar tastes, He’s now pinched my copy and I have ordered another. He’s a happy young man.
On another note, this book is well written. It’s not a just collection of recipes. We learn about history, Andi’s family and friends, her mum’s cooking and where it has fitted and continues to fit in her life. It is very interesting.
It is a beautiful book. For us oldies whose eyesight is no longer perfect you can actually read it without squinting or trying to make out light grey text against a pale background. A very readable book.
If you are interested in genuine home cooking and want to learn more about this cuisine then I’d highly recommend.
My new copy arrives tomorrow and I plan to crack open a bottle of wine and savour the book in detail with a view to planning the weekend menu.
A true treasure.

I've become a bit obsessed with cooking and learning about different foods and cultures. This book is DELICIOUS JOY. There is no other way to describe it. It is also a visual feast, the colours, the photos, the history and the story Andi tells through the pages. Divine. I would absolutely love to see a TV show version. I'm off to make the Green Seasoning now.
