In Tweens, award-winning parenting educator Michelle Mitchell explains that this is the most rapid period of development since toddlerhood. Right now, before the full pressures of high school hit, you have a window of opportunity that can change the trajectory of adolescence and beyond.

- By: Alfie Kohn

Story
One basic need all children have, educator Alfie Kohn argues, is to be loved unconditionally, to know that they will be accepted even if they screw up or fall short. Yet conventional approaches to parenting such as punishments (including "time outs"), rewards (including positive reinforcement), and other forms of control teach children that they are loved only when they please us or impress us. Kohn cites a body of powerful and largely unknown research detailing the damage caused by leading children to believe they must earn our approval.

Extremely helpful strategies
- By Anonymous User on 23-07-2023
Publisher's Summary
What does it mean to be a good parent? Are you a good parent when your child is compliant, but a bad parent when they're not? What if they're perfect at age three and challenging at 13? And what if your child has additional needs?
This is an audiobook about parenting styles and what it takes to be a great parent. We know about tiger parents, helicopter parents, free-range parents, but have you heard of Tesla parents, leaf-blower parents or iPhone 6 parents? So many styles, but is there one that actually works?
Justin Coulson believes so. Drawing on up-to-the-minute research in parenting science as well as studies of childhood development, he shows:
– how our children thrive when we understand and meet their basic psychological needs;
– how our job is not to fix our kids, but to create an environment that supports their growth and development; and
– how children flourish when we minimise control, but maximise our warmth and involvement, and establish healthy boundaries.
Coulson's revolutionary approach and practical strategies will encourage you to change the way you parent forever.

The book that every human should read!
Excellent parenting advise and helpful tips.
A great read for non- parents too. It provides perspective on self and others. The way that we have been raised can impact on how we parent or the way we perceive kids should be parented.
