Publisher's summary

There is something truly wrong at Boucher House on the Old Pearl River. Some hidden evil lurking deep inside the woods. Nothing about their blissful life is what it seems. Because just when they think they have it all, he shows up to take it back.

Indie

I have them all now. Just the way I want them. McKay, the one who loves me deepest. Adam, the one who protects me fiercely. Donovan, the one who tells the truth. They are my friends, they are my lovers, they are my world. And Maggie belongs to all of us, no matter who her father is. This is the family I’ve always wanted. This is the family I deserve. And I will do whatever it takes to keep them.

Mckay

I have a secret that could ruin everything. But I’m not keeping that secret to hurt her. Nathan St. James needed to go.

Adam

I made a plan that could ruin everything. But I did it to save us in the end. The Company needed to come back.

Donovan

I told a lie that could ruin everything. But I didn’t tell the lie to them - I told it to myself. Carter is closer than we think.

Disturbing plot - trigger warning!!

**SPOILER ALERT** PLEASE READ!!

This review contains spoilers but I truly believe that each listener should have this information before listening to this book.

There is a plot twist that involves a sexual relationship with BOTH “father” figures. She is an adult at the time this happens but this is EXTREMELY gross. It doesn’t matter to me that they aren’t her biological parents - they raised her and had a parental type relationship!! I’m even fine with step sibling romances as long as it is well done and not leaning into creepy or extreme. This plot line was absolutely sick- moreover due to the revelations about the men’s feelings for her when she was a teenager. This whole series is weird and drawn out. I don’t understand why a sexual relationship with “parents” was necessary in any way for this story.

I love JA Huss (typically) and the pendulum of characters she depicts - nobody is ever 100% good or bad. However, this plot twist wasn’t something that I could skip over or pretend it wasn’t disgusting, I love erotica and I have a pretty thick skin for all kinds of sexual activities and depictions - but this took it too far. It also added nothing of real substance to this book. Why is everyone obsessed with this girl?? I never felt a connection with her (unlike the majority of JA Huss’s characters) and the extreme behaviors just seemed out of place.

Julie - I love your work but this series is crazy and not in a good way. Please don’t create more work based on sexual relationships with immediate family. It isn’t sexy or creative. It’s just gross. Even in the genre of erotica this topic/plot line is extremely disturbing.

As an overall novel I felt it was extremely drawn out. I have no love for the main character and couldn’t stand her whining internal monologue. This series should have been 1 or 2 novels max. I definitely will not listen or read anything else in this series but I will continue to listen to JA Huss - as long as there isn’t sexual relationships between immediate family members included. I hope this review helps anyone who is on the fence make an informed choice. I would recommend the Mister series by JA Huss instead of this one.

Mind F

Well I just read this series back to back and it is definitely stories that are intriguing. I have to say though I believe in some of this kind of thing does take place under our very noses. I’m from Louisiana and I just read a news article of a priest having sex with two women on the altar of a church and guess where it was located? Ready? Pearl River people. Not to mention there was just a domestic terror plot that failed to kill a US governor. So, hey, makes me wonder where some of these authors get their material?????

Disappointed

I was so disappointed in how everything turned out, the guys acted like they were soooo in love with Indie but neither of them really were... Donovan loved another woman, and Adam and McKay loved each other. It was a mess and I hate that I stayed along for the ride to be let down.

PRETTY AMAZING.. PRETTY TWISTED & PRETTY UNIQUE

I love love love Julie’s work.. her imaginative, unique, unpredictable, gripping and twisted chapters from various integral layered characters who tell in past and present scenes which are perfectly placed and intricately weaved puzzle pieces. Secrets, misdirection, truths and assumptions. Each character bleeds tantalizing secrets throughout his or her plotline and some secrets are eventually revealed in the Huss-drop end of “Wow”.. “WTF”.. “Holy Shit didn’t see that one coming” twists and the pieces start to fall into place. The cast are caring characters who lust, love and mistrust and have twisted links to each other in the sizzle-filled storyline.. and the love Indie has for her three self-appointed Guardians Adam, Donovan and McKay seems innocent. They've each been her fierce protectors and her bitter-sweet Assassin saviors too.. but they are also cunning, suspicious manipulators who are getting angsty holding their secrets from Indie.. and from each other. And, when they all finally get on the same page of devoted lovers with a MMFM sexcapade, Indie’s first love comes back from the dead. And madness and terrifying mayhem follows as suppressed memories return and evil waits in plain sight for the perfect time to show his well-loved face. The Company have messed with their minds, their thoughts, their memories and are still manipulating the angst, tension and drama in their lives. So what of the future? Can they have one? And if so will they be happy all together ones? Well let’s hope and pray that Julie gives us all the answers in this tbc mystery.. because we all deserve closure. The Company may still be pulling everyone’s strings, death will of course come for some and we need all the answers in a fully wrapped-up ending.. so please gimme gimme gimme more fascinating unstoppable audiobooks in this unique series like yesterday please please please Julie ;)

WORTH A CREDIT? Oh yes so worthy. Spectacular twisted tightly-woven storyline.. multiple POVs by multiple A list narrators who all give five star performances in a story that definitely delivers.

No idea what I just read

That was the strangest story I have ever read. No idea what an island full of kids that had their tongues cut out were even for? What in the world. Was that seriously the last book? How on earth anyone could rate this 5 stars is beyond me. Nothing romantic at all about this. The whole thing was weird.

Another great mind F from Julie.

JA Huss is just one of the best writers period. You never know where she is going in her books. The narration was awesome and another great book. Thank you

Mind Blown!

JA Huss is a must buy author for me because of her intricate plots, her brilliant storytelling and the continuing story arc that involves Indie, Donovan, NcKay and Nathan in an ever changing drama that grabbed my by the heart and wouldn’t let me go. All four narrators are at the top of their game and played their characters to perfection! I was riveted! Thanks for another mind bender, J.A. Huss!

Amazing Book and Narration

JA Huss is an excellent author. First I read this book, now I've listened to it! I love, love, love Julie's books and the world she has created. I did not want to pause this audio. Thankfully I was on the road. Once again, she surprised me with where she took this storyline, except for the main twist! I called it for once! That rarely happens! But the ending was not what I expected. I love/hate when that happens. So one could stop reading at this point, but why would you want to do that!? I'm so looking forward to what's next. She left us hanging a bit!

The five narrators are EXCELLENT. Their performances were perfection, bringing this book to life! I was so lost to the story that I couldn't do anything but listen. Easy to listen to voices that fit the characters wonderfully! So wasn't ready for it to end! Amazing group of narrators for certain.

Fantastic!

This one will truly blow your mind!! Soo many twists that I didnt see coming. As always Julie has created a masterpiece!! No EOBS at the end though, missed that, but cant wait to start Gorgeous Misery!! This is most definitely worth a credit, I highly recommend listening, especially if you've read or listened to the other Company related books!

Spectacular

Amazingly different. I absolutely loved it and will listen to it again and again. It's definitely not your typical book, and that's why is so captivating.
