Outdrawn: A Sapphic Rivals to Lovers Romance Kindle Edition
Noah Blue’s finally got her foot in the door. After clawing her way to the top of the charts with her webcomic, she’s garnered enough attention to earn a full-time position at a comic company re-launching their cult classic comic: Queen Leisah.
Queen Leisah is predicted to be an instant bestseller with movie deals already in the making. Things are falling into place. There’s nowhere to go but up…as soon as she gets one person out of her way.
Sage Montgomery has always been the best artist in every building she’s stepped foot in. Raw talent’s gotten her webcomic to the top of the charts every month for the past eight years. She’s been the best for as long as she can remember. Sure, her career has plateaued but that can be fixed with a big, mainstream comic.
She was promised full creative control over Leisah. Instead, she got a shared credit with the one artist who’s been breathing down her neck since college. The one artist who has a fighting chance of being better than her. Sage and Noah have to work as a team — or, at least appear to work as a team. They thought the hardest part of the relaunch would be drawing together. But that’s easy in comparison to resisting their feelings for each other.

About the author
Deanna Grey is an author from Florida who writes new adult books about Black women falling in love. All her books feature pining heroes/heroines, steamy scenes, and happily ever afters. When she isn't writing, she's most likely re-watching Star Trek: TNG, playing video games where she can't make any of the jumps, or baking something far too sweet.

✨Review:
The highlight of this book for me is the writing of the characters. They are just written extremely well. They aren’t flat or surface level but dynamic and raw, well-rounded individuals.
I loved how the relationship between the two main characters developed throughout the book. Even though they were polar opposites, they had great chemistry and complemented each other perfectly. The slow burn, rivals-to-lovers storyline was amazing and not only developed their relationship but also their characters individually. Their relationship felt so realistic and organic, with both Sage and Noah growing and evolving as the story progressed.
The author did a fantastic job with characterization, making Noah and Sage feel like real people with relatable issues. Sage, in particular, was a complex and misunderstood character due to her unique way of handling her emotions. As an older sister myself, I could relate to her struggles with responsibility heavy.
And the bickering! The way these women teased and taunted each other had me kicking my feet and giggling.
What really touched my heart though, and what will stay with me for a long time, was the exploration of asking for “help” vs looking for “rescue.” How asking for or accepting help, or putting up personal boundaries, doesn’t reduce your personal strength or worth. How it’s necessary and often a way of letting your friends/loved ones show their own caring.
Noah and Sage were both strong women. Neither needed to save or be saved by anyone. They met on equal footing and formed a deep understanding of each other because of it, which only enhanced their ability to lean on each other and support each other once they learned to allow themselves. In turn, that actually deepened their bond and brought both further happiness.
Of course this book isn't free unless you have Kindle unlimited, which I do so maybe that's why I'm kind of lumping it into some of my Kindle day reads because I didn't pay anything for it. Even though of course I did with the subscription. It just felt refreshing. Now does it mean that the story didn't have flaws... it did.
That comes in the form of the sex. If we were to give like a chili peppers rating on how steamy it was. I will give this about a notch over Pg13 as far as how substantial and how much the author was able to kind of, I don't know, give us the eemf. I love the consensual stuff. It was great but it... I don't know, something just felt like it was missing. like how in the photo booth scene in this story describes a kiss. It could have been better.
But overall, I enjoyed the story

This was a slow burn, but the writing was good so I didn’t care as much as I normally would.
Comics! Competitions! Fair rides and food! Family issues!
In the left corner we have Sage, the oldest daughter, parentified, overachiever, and a bisexual.
I loved this sapphic rivals to lovers dual POV story. The setup of two comic book artists, who kinda knew each other in art school, but one was a bit more accomplished than the other, worked really well as a backdrop.
I wouldn't say there was miscommunication in this story, but rather that Noah and Sage clearly had differing perspectives and understanding of the same situations, which Deanna navigated masterfully. I've definitely been in those situations where I was convinced of someone's motives, only to later discover I got it all wrong.
It was very heartfelt, and the spicy scenes were hot!!
Deanna has just joined my "comfy romance reads club" along with Ali Hazlewood. It's just a very nicely written romance, that's easy to consume and enjoy. It touches on certain trauma and personality traits which I found very interesting.
I know I keep saying this, but I'm determined to read Deanna's other works next time I feel for a contemporary romance story!
