From the Manufacturer

The Orion Sirius EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount is conveniently less hefty than the heavier Orion Atlas EQ-G mount, but it utilizes the same GoTo drive motors, electronic features, and functionality. The Orion Sirius EQ-G can support up to a 30-lb. load of equipment easily for all your visual astronomy or astrophotographic applications. With its computerized GoTo system and hand controller, the Orion Sirius EQ-G provides a terrific platform for electronic acquisition and tracking of celestial objects. Select from among 42,900 objects in the GoTo database using the intuitive menus on the easy to use hand controller, or take a guided tour of the finest celestial showpieces. After a rather simple alignment procedure, the Sirius EQ-G GoTo Mount can take you on hour after hour of astronomical adventures as it locates, then points the attached telescope to cosmic curiosities. The internal dual-axis stepper motors of the Sirius Mount slew the attached telescope at speeds up to 3.4° per second for efficient stargazing sessions. The Orion Sirius EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount includes an illuminated polar-axis telescope, 8.3" dovetail mounting bar, and one 11-lb. counterweight. The tripod is remarkably sturdy, as evidenced by the 1.75"-diameter stainless steel legs and cast-metal spreader plate. The plate doubles as a convenient accessory tray, with holes for storing telescope eyepieces while out in the field. Operation of the computerized GoTo system and tracking motors requires a 12-volt DC power source or AC-to-DC adapter (both sold separately). The Orion Sirius EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount weighs 32 lbs., not including counterweight. Weighs 43 lbs. assembled, without a telescope attached.

Great mount, easy to use and quite accurate if aligned properly. I have been getting 60 second exposures with no star movement. Really like the mount. It is very stable but still light enough to lug around. Well worth the money. I just picked up a guide scope and have not used it guided yet.

The mount is very sturdy and easy to assemble. It is heavier than expected. The counterweight should have been 2 smaller ones instead of just a big one. I'm doing backyard astrophotography so I only need to move it a short distance. An AC DC power adapter was bought to use instead of the one supplied with the mount. Polar alignment was easy to perform. The hand controller is good, a little bit confusing sometimes since it has 4 directional arrows in the middle and 2 more arrows at the bottom and I tend to go for the 4 in the middle when is the 2 at the bottom that need pressing. Last night I managed to mount the guidescope side by side the camera and lens using another dovetail. So far still learning to control and find the objects. The manuals are kind of ok but there are plenty of online resources to view as well. Connection to PC software was also done last night and it was somehow successful. I'll give an update in a month or so. 4 stars because of the counterweight and the need for another cable to connect Synscan hand controller to PC.

The item on here quoted a higher capacity weight than what the accompanying documentation states. Tried with my telescope and it can't handle the advertised weight. The documentation seems to be correct while the item specs on here are wrong.

This is working fine for tracking objects for photography. I use the tour got guide to find various objects in the sky. I connected a Canon camera with lens so I can use for astrophography. Just wish it were quieter and not quite so heavy. Hard to carry up and down stairs when setup so I need to disassemble blue to take to the backyard.

The Sky Watcher 100 telescope fits perfectly. Wish I had known that I needed a battery pack when I bought it.

I bought the mount from telescope.com, the Orion site over near San Francisco. The mount is solidly built. Hefty but still manageable to my 78 year old body. I want to give you a heads-up on this mount. It still uses an RS-232 cable. So do buy a USB to RS-232 male pin adapter if you don't have one already. Then you can connect the supplied cable to your computer to do firmware updates. I thought that connector went the way of the floppy disk but not so. Also the GoTo remote has been updated but not the manual. It does need to be updated but most info is still relevant/useful. I found that its polar scope was already aligned, that was nice, but do check it anyway. I knocked off a star since because of the use of antiquated RS-232 connector on the computer and the sometimes confusing manual. Also, I prefer a white finish as it is easier work with at night and doesn't heat up in sunlight. I got the male RS-232 to USB adapter on order. Make sure it has the projecting pins as the connector on the included cable is female. My ancient laptop computer in the basement has an RS-232 port on the back but it's female, so no luck. Anyway, this is well constructed mount and I do recommend it.

Update: I can't update the motor controller firmware. Also the motors for slewing are not working. I have contacted Orion (telescope.com) and am waiting for a response. So, even though it is a solid mount, its internals are not so hot. I knocked off two more stars as Orion is very slow to respond.

My Sirius EQ mount is at least 10 years old [bought used in 2011] as I used it for the Venus transit in 2012. I was a visual observer until this past year when I lost some of my vision. So I have turned to imaging.

This past summer/ fall 2020 I stuck a very heavy C9.25 onto this mount weight ~ 20 pounds plus 50 mm finder plus imaging camera [I really do not recommend] and I did planetary imaging of Mars, Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Jupiter. No tracking. I just let the mount run and manually kept the planet in the FOV. My images came out really well. My wife was shocked, actually.

This winter I decided [since the planets weren't around] to do some wide-field imaging just with a cheap Canon t3i with a 50 mm lens, and it did well. Again, no tracking. No star trails, nice and round.

I then moved up to a 135 mm lens, no tracking...and had pinpoint stars. Tried 250 and 300 mm lenses ...did well.

This past week I decided to jump in and used a 480 mm telescope [TeleVue Pronto]. I also knew I needed to do some tracking. So I got a 60 mm guide scope with an old CMOS camera [ASI 120mm] and hooked it up to my mount via PHD2 using ASCOM drivers and Stellarium bypassing the Syn scan hand controller and utilized APT [Astrophotography Tool] software for my imaging sessions.

Let me tell you...I was shocked to see how well this mount tracked with periodic error correction RMS~ 0.2-0.3 which is really pretty good! Again, pinpoint stars.

Be aware: this is a coffee grinder mount with audible gear sounds especially with RA movement. At times it sounds kind of scary. But it has been a reliable workhorse.

I have considered a tune to upgrade [belt drive], but have been too lazy to send it in or too scared to do it myself. Close to retirement so maybe then when I have time to burn.

Just saying that I love this mount and I hope if you choose to get it that it performs as well for you as it has for me over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very solid and GOTO works well

Used this mount for a Skywatcher 100ED refractor and it handled it and the 60mm guide scope with ease. Identical to the EQ5 it is recognized by APT and PHD2 software. It is not the lightest mount to heft around, but easier than the beefier Orion Atlas / EQ6. The SynScan GoTo system works well and I was pleased they *finally* updated the PC connection to a USB from the archaic RS-232 serial port. Its proven to be quite sturdy and I am sure I will get years of service from it.
