Frozen Hearts #1

On the Edge

Rate this book
I lost everything because of him. He says he would give anything to get me back.

Once upon a time I had it all: an Olympic gold medal, a career as a professional ski racer, and a happily ever after so close I could almost touch it. Then my perfect life imploded in one tragic weekend.

Five years later I’ve rebuilt my life with the best girlfriends, the perfect new boyfriend, and a new career. Now my ex—the one who wrecked everything five years earlier—is back as the newest member of the National Ski Team and I’m forced to be his physical therapist.

My days are filled with him. He’s constantly shirtless and sweaty and sexy as sin, and trying to make me fall in love with him again.

But I built these walls around my heart for a reason—and his presence is threatening to undo everything I've created without him. With the stakes this high and the sexual tension this hot, this could all go so very wrong.

Or, maybe we’re on the edge of getting everything we ever wanted.

Author’s Note: If you don’t like globe-trotting to ski destinations around the world, powerful female friendships, athletes with ridiculous bodies, a strong heroine determined never to have her heart broken again, and an even stronger hero willing to do whatever it takes to earn back the love of his life, this book isn’t for you. But if you like all that in a steamy romance, with no cheating and a happily ever after, one-click to download this book immediately.

Julia grew up on the warm and sunny West Coast, but her first decision as an adult was to trade her flip-flops for snow boots and move to Boston.

She’s been enjoying everything that New England has to offer for over two decades, and now that she’s acclimated to the snowy winters and finally found all the places to get good sushi and tacos, she has zero regrets.

You can usually find her in front of her computer, but when she stops writing she’s most likely to be found outdoors, preferably with a pair of skis or snowshoes strapped to her feet in winter, or on a paddleboard in the summer.

“The things you remember...”
“You'd be surprised how little I've forgotten.”

Second chance romances where they used to be THE couple but broke up after a misunderstanding, so years later character A hates character B and character B is ready to go and fight for character A's love again.... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY 💳💥💳💥💳💥💳💥!!

Tropes: second chance, workplace romance, forced proximity, sports romance. No cheating, HEA.

4.5 stars. | I like to think of myself as a second chance romance connoisseur, and the moment I read that blurb I knew this was the book, and I wasn't wrong. Jackson and Nate were together for years, but in the blink of an eye a decade-long relationship ended without further explanation. Now he's back to fight for his girl, but it's not gonna be easy with all the resentment Jackson feels for him; they need to come clean, talk and put the past behind them if they want a new relationship, but once again past misunderstandings seem to be driving them apart. The love is there, intact, but so are the fears... can they make it this time? read to get all the angsty feelings!

This is the first book by Julia Connors book, and it's set in a sports romance universe with 3 more books to come following Jackson's gilfriends, all introduced in this first installment. Each one with great tropes, so there's plenty of fun to come. About On the Edge , maybe I'm biased because I love second chance romances with the passion of a thousand suns, but this was a really good debut novel. It was easy and light to read while taking the time to explain about the characters, their past relationship, and also the sport (because I don't have the slightest idea about competitive skiing, so there's that too 🤭). And as is classic with second-chance romances, there was a lot of explaning to do here, and Jackson and Nate took their sweet time getting there while in the intervening time they were forced to work together, and she HATED it... or least at the beginning and with good reason if I'm honest because she was the one who from one day to the next lost the love of her life without further explanation, but Nate was a man with a plan and a single goal in mind so he was ready from the start to convince her to give him another chance doing whatever it took because this man knew from their (second) first kiss that she was the one for him. I just wish I could have seen a little more of their past relationship because the mistakes they made were mentioned/recalled a few times, but not much was really seen about how they got together, the travels, the fights, the jealousy, etc.

Aaaaand... this book ended in the way that I like the most; with a bonus scene with a glimpse into the future a few years down the road. You got me forever there, Julia!!

I picked up this book because I saw an ad for the third book in the series that looked great, but me being me, I had to read the first two books before that.

This was an okay romance. Second-chance romances are tricky for me, especially when the original cause of the split is the miscommunication trope, which is one of my least favorites.

Besides that, I did love MMC, he was charming, caring, and clearly attempting to make amends for his past actions throughout the book, but I didn't really like the FMC at all. I thought that she did a lot of blaming others (especially Nate) for things that she definitely had some blame for. She didn't see things from his perspective and didn't even try to, which is what frustrated me the most.

So while I loved the sports-romance trope set in the ski world, I had trouble believing that our FMC Jackson was worth all the trouble Nate went through to get her back. I will probably still read the second book since they are all standalone, but I hope to connect more with the characters during round 2!

Universal

The very last person Jackson ever expected to see again is her new patient. Yep, her ex, Nate, the one who ghosted her while she was recuperating from the crash that ended her skiing career years ago, is now her newest PT patient, and she cannot convince her boss to let her switch patients with another therapist. So she may have to work with him, but she will never, ever, forgive him or hate him less. Right?

Nate's come back for redemption, to claim the only woman he's ever loved. But, as he's finding, he has his work cut out for him because Jackson will barely look at him, let alone let him explain what happened all those years ago. Forgiveness? Ha! If looks could kill, he'd be a dead man, so he will have to work double time to convince her to give him a second chance.

Oh boy but this one was intense. Nate had some serious explaining to do, and Jackson made him work his tail off to get back on her good side. This is serious slow burn goodness and I loved it. There's a ton of mis and non-communication, making for tension and angst, but it wasn't over the top. Their chemistry was sizzling, their love obvious, and now I can't wait for more by this author.

This debut novel is a well-written look at what this new author has to offer. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV and ends with a HEA.
Jackson and Nate get a second chance at love when he arrives on the men’s ski team. They are forced to face the heartbreak that ended their relationship the first time. They still have sizzling chemistry and deep feeling for each other. Jackson must let down her walls. They both must communicate about the past and the present to get to their HEA.
Nate was a hero who would do whatever it takes to get his girl back. Once readers know his side of the story, they cannot help but fall in love with him. He is 100% Jackson. All-in. Forever. I love that swoony-ness. This was a good look at how important communication is in a relationship and how devastating secrets can be. Jackson must give Nate a chance to tell her what happened five years ago before they can move past it. That takes a while. I would say this is a bit of a slow burn. Though there are some steamy fantasy scenes, the couple doesn’t get physical until the fourth quarter of the book. Their HEA is sweet, and the grand gesture was romantic.
I thought the book itself was well-written and very well-edited, which is nice to see in a debut book. I found the characters likable, the plot and ski racing details interesting, and the pace just right. Jackson’s girl friends are introduced, and the scene is set for them to get their happily ever afters in future books. I adore the friendship and support they offer Jackson, and I am looking forward to getting to know them better. This was a very good steamy romance and probably my first skiing book. I am looking forward to the next read by this author. I can’t wait to see where she goes.

I have to say that after reading Julia Connors' debut On the Edge, I'm super excited about her future work. This is a second chance at love, and man, did she pen it perfectly in my eyes. See, Nate & Jackson were in love before things went belly up, and she lost everything because of him. Now her life is pretty great as she's making a name for herself as a physical therapist, has great friends, and a new boyfriend when Nate comes back into her life as the newest member of the National Ski Team. And Nate wants her back & is doing everything right to achieve it but she's not listening to him. Don't get me wrong, I loved Nate, but I also loved the fact that Jackson didn't make anything easy for him despite the fact that they really needed to talk. I'm not saying she should have never forgiven him, but I'm the type of girl who thinks if the heroine's heart is broken, she needs to make the hero work for it. The good news is Nate isn't going to give up either since they are perfect for each other but I'm not saying anything else. To experience all this goodness for yourselves & see how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I really enjoyed the sports aspect of this book. I love to watch the Olympics and the Alpine skiing events are some of my favorites. The author did a phenomenal job describing the training, the competition and some of the challenges of being a world class athlete. The descriptions of all the various locations for events and training were also very well done and made me want to go on vacation to a ski town immediately.

Unfortunately, the relationship between Jackson and Nate didn’t work for me. Their reasons for not being together in the past and present seemed easily avoidable if there had been better communication between them. There were also several outside forces working against them between careers, family and friends. They kept repeating the same mistakes and I honestly didn’t fully believe in their HEA by the end.

I really wanted to like this book because I felt like Jackson and Nate had a lot of potential for character growth, but it all felt rushed in the end. I’m hoping we see more to solidify their relationship in the next book.

I am excited to read the next book about Sierra & Beau. Sibling’s best friend is my favorite.

“‘I promised you a long time ago that even though you weren’t my first, you’d be my last.’”

this story was such a good book!! i’ve never read a skiing romance and omg i loved it. there wasn’t as much skiing as i expected, but this book was more focused on the training!

i loved the enemies to lovers so much, the arguing and hating. the story was a bit drawn out and it started to get a little annoying. i love a slow burn but the way this was written annoyed me a bit.

i hated jackson’s dad. he made me want to just throw the book out. he was the absolute worse character. ever. horrible.

i really liked the ending and thought it was cute! the few chapters before it tho just eh.

i am writing this so much later bc sometimes i dread writing reviews bc they make me rly have to think but this was a very cute book!!

tropes included:
second chance
enemies to lovers
sports romance
spicy scenes (they were so so so good ❤️‍🔥🔥😫)

thank you so much to Wildmarketing Solutions for a ARC copy of this book 💙

It’s been five years since Jackson’s life was turned upside down both personally and professionally. She has proven how strong and resilient she is as and her life is in a good place until she finds herself having to work with Nate, her ex-boyfriend who left her when she needed someone the most.

Nate is a competitive skier who couldn’t be happier that Jackson is tasked with being his physiotherapist. Leaving her is the biggest regret in his life and he isn’t about to make the same mistake twice however he is about to find out that Jackson isn’t about to just forgive and forget.

As much as Jackson tries to fight her feelings Nate is equally determined to prove to Jackson that they have always belonged together. I enjoyed the debut from this author as she takes us on an emotional journey that not only features two great characters but a captivating group of secondary characters that need their own stories as well.

I’m not sure what I expected going into this book, but somehow I’m still disappointed.

The entire conflict falls back to miscommunication and everyone sucks in this situation. There was this big build up to figuring out what happened between Jackson and Nate. Why did he leave? Where did he go? Why is he back? And the answers just fall flat. This is a miscommunication of the worst kind. Or maybe it’s more accurate to call it a lack of communication. Summary of conflict: They have a bad argument, then Nate hears about his sick mom is in the hospital so he flies home but didn’t tell Jackson - this wasn’t in a vindictive way, but a spaced out distracted by the fact his mom is in the hospital kind of way. Jackson’s pissed he doesn’t show up to her race thinking it’s because their fight, having no idea he flew home to be with his dying mother. Jackson is so distracted by the fact that he’s not there, she ends up in a horrible career ending accident. Nate has just lost his mom, finds out his girlfriend has suffered a serious injury and is in the hospital, so he leaves his grieving father after the death of his mother to fly back to Jackson. Her father refuses to let Nate see her while she’s in a medically induced coma and decides now is the best time to talk to Nate about their "toxic" relationship, and encourage him to leave because they aren’t making each other happy anymore and he needs to “live outside of her shadow, learn who he is and how to be happy on his own so they can be happy as a couple.”

First of all, her dad fucking sucks. How could he do that, say all that to Nate AND NOT TELL JACKSON?? He basically allowed her to believe Nate walked away from her, abandoned her, never loved her and not once thought maybe he should tell her the truth of what happened. That’s fucked. Dad meddled where he had no business meddling. Now, Jackson also sucks here. She harbors her anger and loathing, allowing it to consume her for 5 years. 5 YEARS!! This entire conflict could have been avoided with a phone call, email or text message. How are you in a 7 year relationship with someone and just stop talking? I don’t understand how she didn’t once try reaching out to him in the weeks/months following her accident. I get that she was hurt and recovering from a horrible injury, but I can’t imagine this happening with my partner and not trying to get in contact with him even just out of anger and wanting to yell at him. Could have saved 5 years of pain and heartbreak, and some seriously self-sabotaging anger. Just ridiculous, almost absurd.

I don’t know if I can say I liked either MC, but I definitely liked Nate more than Jackson. We are obviously supposed to dislike Nate in the beginning, but he was charming, caring, and clearly attempting to make amends for his past actions throughout the book. He was up front with Jackson that he still has feelings for her and was there for her - he wasn’t hiding things from her. Whereas Jackson was just full of hate and loathing. She blames others, especially Nate without taking accountability for her role in what happened. She didn't see things from his perspective and didn't even try to, which is what frustrated me the most. I never got the romance vibes from this book, it just felt like a book that tells us these people are in love without the love being shown in the story.

Marco and Christian might be the only thing I actually liked in the book. I was not expecting the fake dating trope between Marco and Jackson to protect Marco’s relationship with Christian. It’s impressive Marco and Jackson were able to keep up with fake relationship for almost a year. And her helping them out in this way was probably the only redeeming thing about her. I would’ve loved more interactions with Marco and Christian.

Then we get to the third act break up, which again is all a big lack of communication and keeping secrets. Jackson says she’s ’all in’ with Nate, but keeps her plans to leave the National Ski Team and move back to NH to be closer to her mom who is going through cancer treatment for the second time. She has so many opportunities to tell him and literally tells herself several times to tell him, but doesn’t. How can you be ‘all in’ with someone and not tell them your plans for the future??

So their bosses find out about their relationship, and since it’s a breach of her contract to have sexual relations with an athlete, her job is on the line. She packs her shit, gives Nate barely any notice that she’s leaving and tells him not to come with her, but that she’ll call. But she doesn’t call him like she said she would, he finds out through his coach that she resigned. Again, she doesn’t call him, doesn’t text him, and is blaming everything on him. Her plan to interview for the job she never told Nate about falls through once they know she resigns due to a breach of contract. Jackson was angry and pushed Nate away then he got mad because she didn't call him taking it to mean that she left him, and she was hurt because he didn't call her. It’s all just a cluster fuck of not talking to the other person.

Honestly I couldn't take the childishness any longer and was so fucking irritated this was how the author had things play out. Jackson’s saying her future ‘won’t involve Nate,’ again blaming everything on him - it felt like it did him dirty. After all this supposed growth and maturing, saying how much he wanted them to be together, to be open and honest with each other, to just throw it all out the window didn’t fit with his character. It was a lame ass excuse and only happened to move the story along to where the author needed it to be. I do not believe for one second they wouldn’t have tried calling or texting the other person to get an explanation as to what happened. I also don’t believe they wouldn’t see similarities in this situation to the one 5 years ago. Nate getting on a plane and flying to Europe to rejoin his ski team but not telling Jackson - there’s no way he wouldn’t realize how similar that situation was and wouldn’t have reached out to her in some way of “I have to get back to the team in Europe or I lose my spot,” which she should have understood having worked with the team for several years.

Basically this entire book was “I didn’t tell him/her how hurt I was and now going to be mad at them for not knowing.” It’s infuriating how easily everything could have been figured out with just a conversation and simply calling the other person. It’s just an absurd level of stubbornness and pride that caused their conflict. Honestly just fucking stupid.

I'm going to put a disclaimer in. This review has nothing to do with this story. But I just wanted to let you know that when I searched for a hockey romance on Amazon, this was one of the results this is This story is not a hockey romance. This book is actually a ski racing romance This is a second Chance Romance you do get to see the beginning of their they were younger, but it isn't flipping chapters between present and past, they are memories within present time. Which I really enjoy. This author is New me. I found her through TikTok. This book is also available through Kindle Unlimited (KU) Subscription

Is my life changed? No. Did this keep my attention? Yes.

1. Super public romantic gestures make me itchy. I had to stop reading and take a minute to breathe for this resolution scene

2. I get true love and all, sure, but homie really????? You waited 5 years for her???? She hid so many things from you then and now and you’re still this hung up on her??????? Like glad it all worked out but I felt bad for the guy for a while there.

3. I know it never said it, but I know in my soul that Nate likes to be the little spoon.

Found this book through Tiktok and was kinda iffy about starting it, but I was mostly definitely not disappointed. There was lots of tension, back and forth, spicy moments, growth, the list goes on. Can’t wait to read more works by this author. If you’re into sport’s romance I’d definitely recommend reading.

I was all-in on this story! The "love" scenes were hot and so well done, but beyond that, the entire novel is well-written. Realistic characters, compelling plot. Hearing both sides (dual POV) I was just as torn between them as they were with each other. Flew through it! Bring this book to the beach with you this summer!

This book hit me right in the feels and did not disappoint. Second chance love romances are always my weakness. Jackson and Nate had instant connection and chemistry despite 5 years of being apart and Jackson living with 5 years of hate. Loved watching them figure out that despite it all, love still overcame the misunderstanding.

I absolutely LOVE sports romance books. I have yet to read a sport that I haven't enjoyed reading about. When I heard that this book featured skiing, I was intrigued. I grew up skiing but there aren't many books that feature skiers.

The premise sets up Nate and Jackson. They were friends and grew up skiing together. Eventually it evolved to a romantic relationship. Nate has to leave at a critical moment in Jackson's career. Jackson ends up having a career ending injury that put hers in the hospital and on a long path to recovery.

5 years later...Jackson has a physical therapy degree and works for the National Ski Team. Nate is back on the National Ski Team with the goal to win Jackson back and he refuses to work with anyone else but Jackson.

The tension in this book was perfect. The spice made sense. There was a great balance of plot and spice. I can't wait to finish the rest of the books in the series.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥

Tropes: second chance, enemies to lovers, sports (skiing), forbidden, forced proximity, slow burn

CW: mentions of cancer, parental death, mentions of kidney transplant (off page), homophobia

Review: I don’t know if I’ve said it before, but 2022 is turning out to be such an amazing year for debuts. Julia Connors’ second chance sports romance is a fantastic debut and one that I am so glad I got to read early! It was an angsty slow burn, with lots of things that I love about romance all rolled into one. Plus, what really made this stand out was the sport that it covered—skiing. Hockey is one of the most popular ‘winter sports’ in romance, but to see a different sport was awesome.

Jackson is a well established physical therapist for athletes and she’s made a name for herself in the right ways. She’s serious about her job, delivers every single time and helps make the best winter athletes even better. Her biggest weakness is her ex. The very same man who is suddenly added to the racing team she’s working with, which puts them in the same place all the time and it’s basically the most frustrating thing for her. Nate, much like Jackson, is a legend in the sport. He might have been on the sidelines for a good part of his career, but with some daredevil stunts that have put him back on the map, he’s now part of the national team and Jackson just so happens to be his PT. Imagine all of the sexual tension, frustration and distrust brewing and you have the basis of On The Edge.

“If you really want me out of your life for good, Jax, you’re going to have to stop looking at me like you want to fuck me.”

I loved these characters, though. I loved how deeply rooted Jackson’s dislike for Nate is and how much she loves him at the same time. They were together for 7 years before he vanished without a trace and left her heartbroken. Since then she’s started dating another athlete putting their relationship in the spotlight. But Nate’s never not loved Jackson. Guys, he waited for her. Just…read the book and you’ll know what I mean. This man has grumpy, swoony and dreamy written all over him and let’s not forget the ‘touch her and I’ll kill you’ vibes that rolls off of Nate all the time. But they’re both determined, strong willed and stubborn, both of them are really good at what they do, so that obviously means they’re going to butt heads the whole time.

The enemies to lovers angle is very one sided, because Jackson is angry with Nate and he’s just trying to find all the ways to get her back. I loved the little trips down memory lane, the unresolved feelings that keep surfacing when they least expect it and the way Jackson keeps pushing Nate away. And I love me a good slow burn, which is exactly what Jackson and Nate’s relationship is and Julia does such a good job keeping me hooked and interested in their romance right from the start.

“I promised you a long time ago that even though you weren’t my first, you’d be my last.”

On The Edge is a bit forbidden, because it’s in the workplace, and it’s a whole lot of forced proximity that really ups the ante on the sexual tension. I’m not kidding when I say your Kindle will be on fire with how desperately they want each other, but don’t cross that line. And yet, when they do. *fans self* I loved every minute of their physical relationship, I enjoyed the way both of them unravel from all the holding it together for so long stress. Their relationship is full of emotional angst. There were so many moments when I screamed JUST KISS, but the slow burn was totally worth it, because holy hell they got pretty hot together.

There were a whole bunch of secrets that needed to be sorted through, lots of conversations to be had and peeling back of layers because of the years they’ve been apart. I definitely give Jackson’s dad all the points for calling both of out on their lack of communication. Made me giggle.

Knowing who we’re getting next has me even more excited, because I am ready to live in Julia Connors’ world of sports romance for as long as possible! Congratulations to Julia on an amazing debut and I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us!

This book does touch about some sensitive topics.

I really wanted to love this book, I mean it had all the good stuff: have no mercy heroine (Jackson) and repentant hero (Nate), but it just fell flat for me.

I think it was that I couldn’t feel a connection to these two because to me all their big mistakes were for a lack of better a word immature. When the main conflict could have been fixed with a phone call, email or text message, but the main couple take 5 years to tell the truth, it loses credibility to me. Nate just lost his mom and his girlfriend has suffered a serious injury after having a very bad argument, then her father thinks that’s the best time for him to give him the truth about their “toxic” relationship.

Nothing about this book gave romance vibes, it just felt like a book who tells us these people are in love without the love being shown in the story, for me. Honestly, if we didn’t know the truth about Marco and Jackson, you would think this girl was a horribly girlfriend because she almost jumps Nate every time she’s had some alcohol and they are alone.

Nate says he left to find himself and it was all part of his plan and it was time to get Jackson back. We never actually learn what it is he did do besides acquire property and film some videos. He says he was celibate until he could have Jackson back, but there were reports of him dating which sent Jackson to Marco, so he was celibate, but he wasn’t a monk (his words); so did he wait or not?

And then the big blow up; I have always and will always dislike it when a couple has to be secretive about their relationship for their own serious reasons and then proceed to have sex in public settings and then are upset when they are caught. Naturally, Jackson was angry and pushed Nate away then he got mad because she didn’t call him and she was hurt because he didn’t call her. Honestly I couldn’t take the childishness any longer and I was glad it was finished.

I hoped to enjoy the side characters, but besides Petra and Ms. Juarez they were all just blah.

Jackson’s mother who has battled cancer for years, had the unfortunate circumstance of it returning and spreading and Beau, Jackson’s little brother, never makes an appearance. The entire time he is mentioned once and we never see or interact with him.

The next book features Beau and Sierra (Jackson’s bestie).

I was in a pretty major reading slump before On the Edge. Let’s just say that I am officially CURED. Connors’s debut was everything that I was looking for and some that I had not bargained for. There was so much to love about this book, so I will stick to the highlights.

This is a second chance romance that takes place in Park City and the world of competitive ski racing. Jackson and Nate have HISTORY. The kind where you think the book is closed forever. Until he joins her racing team, and she is forced to be his physical therapist. As far as premises go, this one fully delivers on its promise.

The chemistry is off the charts. The banter is hilarious and sharp and the physical tension sizzles. There were some scenes (hello garage) where I literally had to fan myself. If you love your romance with a hefty dose of spice, look no further than this book.

Like my fav romance authors, Connors has the gift of voice. Both Nate and Jax jump right off the page, each in their own authentic way. Jax is the type of female lead that I adore. She is complicated, and sometimes prickly, but also loyal and true. She is not your “every girl.” She is completely, unapologetically herself, and it made her feel so fresh to me. And then there’s Nate. What can I say? I loved him after the very first page I spent in his head. Their interplay had me sweating and laughing and rooting for them from the very beginning. And not just because of their chemistry. But because they have a true emotional connection that makes it clear how good they are for each other.

One of the best parts of this book for me was the way Connors represented female friendship. Jackson’s friends are her family, and every single one of them was dynamic and fleshed out. The importance they hold in her life was obvious, and by the end of the book, I wanted nothing more than to be a part of their group. But I will settle for waiting for each of their stories. I can’t wait to see what else Conners has up her sleeve.

Awesome Debut! Nate is back for his girl in this Sweet Sexy Skiing Second Chance Romance

This book made me so happy! Kudos to JC, on her debut novel. I loved it, from the start! When I met Nate Davenport in Chapter 2, I was completely melting into a puddle for that man. Swoon.

This was such a great story. It’s a definite must read! The tension, banter, and sweet moments between Nate and Jackson were so good. I zoomed right through it, because I needed to see Nate get his girl. The glimpses of them in the past, gave the story so much depth.

Nate and Jackson have so much chemistry, past and present… Woo! I mean that garage scene, holy smokes!

This is a second chance/coworkers romance. Nate and Jackson were high school sweethearts. For reasons unknown to Jackson, Nate left her at one of the lowest points in her life. Now he is back to claim her and never leave her side again, if only she would get out of her own way and let him.

Nate came back knowing exactly what he wanted, Jackson. She was and always will be his forever. He is the most loyal, honest, giving and loving man. He was giving Jackson what she needed without her even realizing.

I wanted to be mad at Nate for Jackson, I really did, but I just couldn’t. Nate just lays it all out there. He’s so honest and open. Basically… I love Nate.

Not gonna lie, there is a lot of angst. Jackson made me so mad at one point, I legit growled at my kindle. She was not listening to Nate’s words and actions. Luckily she got it together. It was hard knowing more than Jackson at times, because she was so damn stubborn.

Don’t miss out on this wonderful story!

I received an ARC of this book from Wild Fire Marketing. This is MHO.

Oh how I love a good second chance romance! The fact that this was slow burn, steamy, and a sports romance had me all in.

Jackson was perfectly content living her life, working at the job she loved, and she had her relationship with Marco. Except that relationship was causing a bit of turmoil. After returning to work from a long (and much needed) vacation, Jackson finds out she has a new client, and will be expected to travel with him to all the races. The minute she sees THAT name on the folder, she's ready to run. The way her relationship with Nate ended still caused heartache, and she was still angry. Meanwhile Nate was living life the best he could. He was doing what he loved, but he didn't have the woman he loved by his side. It was time to find his way back to her. To show her that it was only ever her. She was it for him.

This book was filled with so much emotion. These two have quite the past, and you can feel the connection between them. Their road to reunion wasn't easy though. But Nate knew that would be the situation when he started. Secrets were still being kept. Jackson was guarding her heart. Friends were worried. Plus they worked together, so that made a reunion even more difficult.

The big moment was pretty intense. I knew that drama was coming, but I wasn't expecting it to be that grand. I'm still not over all of that, and how it affected Jackson. I also still have a question or two regarding all of it.

The reunion took a while to happen, but I was so happy when it did. I was rooting for these two.

On The Edge was my first book by Julia Connors that I had read, and I cannot wait for the next in this series. Sierra has me intrigued. I'm also looking forward to Petra's story, and I would love to see something regarding Marco.

Something about second chance romances just hits right in the feels for me as long as they aren't a dark or cheating type of second chance.

I love how Julia showed that Jackson had become stronger after her accident and she was a strong woman who didn't need anyone as much as she wanted them. It sounds like that was probably the case as a teen too and it was something that Nate just couldn't really handle well because it meant that he had to kind of take a backseat for a while. Though I do feel bad that she made him keep waiting just so she could reach her goals. Looking back in my 20s, I did the same so I can't throw too much shade though.

For those who hate OMD, don't worry ... this one isn't how it seems. It's one of those that endears you to the characters even more and I hope we see more of the secondary guys as we get into the series.

The one thing that really bugged me about this was the miscommunication at the end. I understood fighting the attraction and not admitting feelings when she was still with Marco but the whole issue with the photos could have been resolved with some talking. I feel like that was mostly on Jackson because Nate had done so much and was obviously helping even if it wasn't in the way she'd hoped. I also know that her life kind of fell apart there in multiple ways but when he didn't text her, even if she was mad at where he was she could have texted him. I'm just happy it wasn't a long, drawn out conflict.

The first book in this series (this one) was excellent and I'm jumping right into number 2, hoping it's a similar case there as well.

On the Edge by Julia Connors is the author's debut novel, and one that I devoured and really enjoyed. This is a slow burn, second chance, sports romance. After a career ending injury, Jackson is learning to cope with her new normal, both in her personal and professional life. She is now a physiotherapist and her newest client, is her ex-boyfriend Nate. After not seeing each other for five years, the moment Nate sees Jackson again, his heart is set on making things right with her. Jackson and Nate have fantastic chemistry. The deep feelings they still have for one another were evident right from the start. Nate will do whatever it takes to earn Jackson's heart back, and she is not so easily won over. I loved his determination and persistency. He wasn't giving up without a fight. I adored that about him. Jackson is hesitant at first. She trys to make him think that she is over him, and has completely moved on but this is just her way of protecting her heart. Deep down she loves him so much and never stopped. There was a lot of tension between these two, but the slow burn is so worth the wait and incredibly steamy! There were some parts of Jackson's personality that I was not a fan of. Her stubborness was overkill at some points, and grated on my nerves a touch, but it didn't at all take away from my feelings about the book and was very minor, overall. For a debut novel, this was really well written. The characters are developed well, the pacing, timing and flow of the story was also done well. I look forward to more of this author in the future.

5 Hard Won Second Chance Stars!!

I love great second chance romances and when they’re set in a world I’ve not experienced before AND it’s a debut author I feel like I’ve won the trifecta of reading. Such is the case with this book written by Ms. Connors.

I was excited that I was going to be in the competitive skiing world with Jackson and Nate’s book because it’s not a genre that I’ve really experienced before. But most importantly this love story is one that is filled with anguish, anger, passion, love and forgiveness. Nate made a huge mistake five years ago leaving the love of his life, although he didn’t actually know it at the time, and shattering Jackson’s heart along with her broken body. Over the next five years, she manages to heal her body, as well as putting her heart back together again and coming out on the other side helping to heal the competitive skiers she used to compete against as well as others that come to see her because she’s the best in her field!!

Imagine her surprise when Nate comes back wanting to reignite their love because he’s finally realized Jackson is the woman he’s meant to be with… and I loved that she made him work for it too!! I was captivated by this story and how smoothly the story flowed. The chemistry between Nate and Jackson was still there and as the book progresses, Nate does everything he can to get this girl back!

I’m so looking forward to reading more of Ms. Connors books!

Second chance romance between Nate and Jackson. Jackson and Nate were each others everything until one day, during a big moment in her life changed in an instant and Nate was no where to be found. She can't ski anymore after her injury, but she is a therapist and helping athletes train and help them with their sport. Enter Nate, her ex, she's supposed to train him. He's there to get her back, she's got a boyfriend who she's in love with right?

Second chances, forced proximity, sexy athletes, a guy fighting for his chance with the love of his life. I liked the story, this was my first read by this author, and I'm interested to see who is next. 3.8 for me.

Genre and tropes: contemporary romance, sports romance, second chance romance

A really enjoyable debut novel by Julia Connors. I love me some sports romance, but usually I tend to stick to the basic hockey and football romances. I'm glad I found this book which features our fmc who is a physical therapist for the National Ski Team and the mmc who is a ski racer on said team.

The writing and editing is really good, and I was very pleased to not find typos and grammatical errors, which are sadly quite common for indie books. The fmc Jackson is a very likeable and strong female, who has overcome an career ending injury and found a new career in physical therapy. The story revolves around her and Nate, who was her high school sweetheart, and who broke her heart when he left her without explanation five years ago. They are thrown together, she's angry at him, he tries to win her back.

I very much enjoyed Nate and Jackson. They are likeable characters. What wasn't enjoyable was the miscommunication throughout the entire book. At first it was kind of frustratingly cute and made sense. At the end it was kind of just frustrating.

I loved Marco and Christian and all of Jackson's friends. I appreciated that she had a friend group who showed up for each other and all were strong on their own.

A good sports romance, bonus points for having them compete in Levi (hello from Finland 🇫🇮). Will check out other books by this author for sure!
