Original review:
Purchased this stand to get some exercise while the winter weather is too ugly to go outside. Never owned one before so I went for the less expensive unit. Works fine, easy set-up, easy to use, nothing fancy.
Problem came up about 2 to 3 months (approx 400 miles) later. Thing got really noisy, not just the expected tire noise. It started whining with a really noisy rumble that turned into loud scream as things got worse. Cranking the pedals by hand to observe, I also noticed the resistance wheel was wobbly and just screaming along even at low RPM. Not cool after 3 months of use. So, very disappointed there.
Contacted the seller by email and was very surprised to actually hear back from them within 24 hrs! A couple of emails back and forth to give them details they wanted and they sent out a replacement. Surprised again. Opened the box and noticed the unit had some wear marks on the aluminum roller. Hm. Used unit.
Swapped out the old screamer with the replacement unit and it was quiet. Nice. I figured I let them know I wasn't too happy about getting a used one and the customer service rep got back within 24 hrs again and we figured things out. Let's see how long this one lasts.
My opinion: The stand is ok for the price, nothing fancy, pretty basic. Quality is lacking, considering the resistance wheel (most likely bearings) died after 400 miles in less than 3 months. So, not too thrilled about the quality. Maybe 2 stars for that.
Customer support: Now that's a very pleasant surprise and not what one would expect from any company. Not only a response within 24 hrs but actually making an effort to make things right. For that I would rate 5 stars.
All in all - 4 stars, mainly because of their customer support.
Would I buy another one from them if I were to look for another stand? No, not that particular model. But I would consider another model from them just for the customer support.
The longest process now of taking the bike on and off is just attaching the tension dial, and that doesn't take long.
I live in a NYC apartment and appreciate when neighbors try to keep noise down, so I try to do be considerate and do the same. This thing literally makes our whole living room floor vibrate while it whirs loudly. I'm sure our downstairs neighbors wonder if we've installed a washing machine in the living room. I have to turn the TV - which is 4 feet in front of me when I'm riding - up by about 30% to get the same listening experience so I can hear everything. I'm buying anti-vibration pads in the hopes that this helps.
It's also very heavy, so moving it for every exercise session is a bit of a pain. The resistance adjustment knob works with tension, similar to a shifter. It's not tuned well on mine, as I can't get it to stick in the 6th, highest resistance position. That's not a big deal since you can achieve the same result by shifting gears.
Other than those issues, it's pretty good. It fit my cheap 21-gear, bolt-axel road bike (a $200 Finiss, also here on Amazon) with no adjustments at all. The instructions clearly say not to replace the axel with the quick-release provided if you have a bolt-axel - and that worked perfectly and was much appreciated. The stand has its own quick-release to get the bike out and this works very well. Since I don't see the value in the resistance shifter, I just hook my bike in and out, which takes less than ten seconds. Hooking up the resistance knob would take about another 30 seconds. It's definitely easy to use.
I just wish it were quieter, didn't vibrate my whole apartment and didn't weigh more than my bike.
