Nashville Fury #1

Off the Record

Rate this book
Fans of the Nashville Fury come to me for all things regarding their favorite professional football team. What they don’t turn to me for is information about how their offensive coordinator is in the bedroom.
The answer? It’s too hot for print.
My name is Sadie Benson and I committed the cardinal sin of being a female sports reporter: I fell in love with a coach.
And not just any coach.
Hunter McAvoy. On track to become the youngest head coach in football history. And with one panty-melting smile, he made me realize there is more to life than work.
It was the story I never saw coming.
We both know this is wrong. We both know we should stay away. We know that if our relationship becomes public, it could ruin everything we have spent our entire lives working for.
It’s a chance we are both willing to take.

Five stars are not enough for this sweet and sexy romance! A sports writer and a football coach who should not be together?? YUM!!

Off the Record is the story of Hunter and Sadie and I have to tell you, this story checked all the boxes for me!! Fun, sexy, and a couple that you will fall head over heels in love with? Yes, please! The sparks fly between Sadie and Hunter, who are each amazing characters on their own but together, they are what romance is made of!

I am hooked on the Nashville Fury and cannot wait for more books in the series!

I cannot believe this is only Chelle Sloan’s second book. I loved her first, Reformation, it was great. This book, this book was fantastic. First I live for a football romance. Not only is this a football romance but it has incredible characters that I absolutely adored.

And while yes this is a sports romance, a football one at that, there was not just another sports romance. This book was unique in a lot of ways but the whole young coach/ sports reporter thing is not really a combo we see a lot. I love when a writer takes an trope that is well loved, and done a lot and puts a spin on it to make it original but while still keeping to the trope, because let’s face it we romance readers love a trope.

I am really hoping for more from these characters. I mean it does say this is a series and I would really like to see if those hints at the end mean there is an HEA in there for Davis and Bethany. Until then I guess I’ll just have to keep watching Thirst Traps with Chelle on TikTok!

I loved this different take on the sports romance subgenre! Not many authors focus on the coaching staff of a sports team finding love and having issues. Chelle did just that. Sadie is the journalist covering the team's sports sections, and Hunter is the new coach coming on staff. Sadie and Hunter had a swoon-worthy meet cute, and I enjoyed the angst level of this relationship.

Make way for an unpopular opinion! (Like for real. This is the first review with less than 3 stars. I checked.)

I started off liking this. It had the makings to be a good fun story. But it didn't take long for me a find a lot of issues. First of all, if I remember correctly, Sadie is 27 and Hunter is 28. They're nearing their thirties. They spent this entire book acting like lovesick teenagers who had never been in a relationship before. Had they been early twenties, I could have forgiven a lot of this behavior.

When deciding to have a relationship, they started calling each other girlfriend/boyfriend instead of by each other's name. That's both cringey and juvenile. Even if they would have been teens, that's still cringey behavior.

Then the honeymoon phase ended, and the two started arguing. Every argument these two had was because of the things Sadie had written. At one point, she said she wouldn't apologize for doing her job, and I whole heartedly agree with that point. But she failed to see her fault in the matter at all. If she would have just given Hunter a heads up about what she was doing, that would have prevented every mess they found themselves in. I mean, she wrote an article basically saying Hunter was being shit at his job, and then got upset that he was upset about it (at least more than she had expected). All she had to do was be like "hey honey, I'm writing an article that's not the most positive."

Then, the second time an article she wrote caused a fight, she refused to give Hunter any answers, which lead to him jumping to less than stellar conclusions. What else was he supposed to do when he wasn't getting any answers? She was so busy being surprised by his huge reaction, that she didn't take any time to try to see the situation how he was seeing it. Instead, she was just getting so offended by everything he was asking/saying.

And in the end, Hunter had to make a big huge gesture in front of a crowd of journalists to win her back. When honestly, he wasn't the one who should have been doing the grand gesture. It should have been Sadie. She was the problematic one.

I hated this. I rolled my eyes every page. I was really excited to finally be done with it. To those who thought this was cute and loved it, more power to you. This wasn't the book for me.

A reporter and a coach walk in to a coffee bar....

“I know we shouldn’t be doing this. But if I don’t kiss you right now, it will be the biggest regret of my life.”

Nothing like getting lost in the world of Chelle. I loved her debut novel and I loved this one. This was so fun and had alot of laugh out loud moments, don't worry definitely some steam mixed in. Go check this one out when you are in the mood for some fun!

I won/received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.

From the first moment that I saw this book, I was interested about. First, by the cover but what really sparked my interest was the blurb! A female reporter who has a secret relationship with a hot football coach, now that I had to read. Luckily for me, I won an ARC copy of this book ‘Off the record’ and I’m so happy that I did because I LOVED it!!

I was a bit nervous when I started reading it because my expectations after reading the blurb were high and Chelle Sloan is a new writer to me so I didn’t know what to expect of her writing. Especially because ‘Off the record’ is only her second book that she has writing.
But to my delight the story and the two main characters pulled me into the story from the start and held my attention until the end and even longer. The only thing that I’m sorry about is that I started reading it on a weekday and not in the weekend, because I had to stop reading it to work (sadly!).

If there was one thing that Sadie Benson was sure of that was that she wanted to be a reporter and with her love for football, she’s working her dream job now by reporting all sport news about the football team Nashville Fury. Being the only woman working there, hasn’t been easy but Sadie worked very hard to prove to everyone that she could do her job.
If there was one thing that Hunter McAvoy knew from a young age, that was that he wanted to be coach of a football team and he’s living his dream now. Both Sadie and Hunter live for their jobs, it’s all they care about, so when they meet and they feel a connection that is a real surprise to them. Both try to resist it but that special kind of connection is really hard to resist. So they do something that they never thought they would do, they decide to have a secret relationship, in the hopes that they can prove later on to their bosses and the world that sometimes love is worth everything. Everything is going great until the moment that one big story turn their world upside down. Can their relationship survive this? Or was it never meant to be??

‘Off the record’ was a great story, it’s sweet, emotional but nothing heavy, filled with humour and lots of love. Although it’s a romance it did feel realistic to me, you could really feel their concerns about their jobs, doing the right thing, the reaction of the outside world. And they may be in their twenties (it’s not a new adult story), they really acted like adults and talked about their feelings and thoughts. They respected each other very much. I’m glad that we got both POV’s. Sadie was intelligent, honest, kind, considerate and she had a sassy kind of humour that I really liked. Hunter is a great combination of strong and vulnerable, the perfect boyfriend.
There were sex scenes in it, some subtle and some very steamy. I liked that and there is an epilogue!! Another thing that I like very much in my stories.

After enjoying this story so much, I will definitely try the debut book of this writer too.

I was craving a fun sports romance and that’s exactly what I got with Off The Record. It was such a great time.

Featuring a sports journalist and coach, I enjoyed the forbidden aspect surrounding the romance a lot. Sadie is constantly bombarding with men in the industry assuming her knowledge in sports is subpar. Hunter, newly hired by the Nashville Fury football team, is officially the youngest offensive coordinator in league history. Both continually feeling the pressure to prove their abilities, I really enjoyed the way these two uplifted and challenged each other.

Due to conflicts of interest, Sadie and Hunter agree to hide their blooming relationship. Their cozy nights at home—many ending up in the bedroom—were so sweet. Despite her love for Hunter developing, it was great to see Sadie continue to publish the truth, never feeling the need to apologize for doing her job. She stays true to herself the entire way through.

What an absolutely fresh take on sports romance! Be prepared to swoon over young and sexy NFL coach Hunter McAvoy and laugh and cheer for feisty sports reporter Sadie Benson. I loved the forbidden love affair aspect, never would I expect a coach and a reporter to fit and fall in love so perfectly!

“If I keep kissing her, she can’t change her mind. I’ll just have to never stop kissing her. “

Sadie is a successful, take football by the balls sports reporter, working her way towards her dream job. Being the lone female reporter means she works her ass off to prove that she has every right to be there and hasn’t slept her way into the locker room. So when she develops a crush on the delectable new coach Hunter, everything she has worked so hard for comes into question. Hunter is the hottest thing to happen to the coaching world, but beyond that he is a truly caring, attentive and stand up southern gentlemen. He needs someone in his corner and when sparks fly with Sadie, a love affair between them is inevitable. This story has the perfect amount of steam, Hunter and Sadie together definitely bring the heat and show that even if they have to hide their love from the press, they set the world on fire! I loved watching Sadie finally take time for herself and just be a woman falling in love with a sexy man like Hunter. I’m excited for more from the world of the Nashville Fury, consider me hooked on this funny and fresh sports romance series!

Sadie Benson is a sports reporter that covers the Nashville Fury football team. She’s a workaholic, doesn’t have time to decorate her own apartment, let alone date. But when the Fury hires a new offensive coach—Hunter McAvoy—Sadie can’t help but swoon.

Hunter McAvoy has always lived in his father’s shadow and felt less than because he became a coach instead of a pro player like his father. Hunter has big plans for the Nashville Fury team and wants to prove himself not only to everyone around him, but to himself. When he meets sexy sports reporter, Sadie, he can’t stop thinking about her.

Sadie & Hunter know their relationship is a no-no and completely unprofessional, but they decide to pursue something in secret because their chemistry & connection is too strong to turn a blind eye to it. But when their little secret is leaked to the public, everything between them might go up in smoke.

Off the Record by Chelle Sloan is book 1 in the Nashville Fury series. This was a solid, fun sports romance. I really liked the setup of Sadie & Hunter’s relationship. And it was cool that both of them worked in the sports industry but neither were athletes, which made for a refreshing dynamic. Although I felt like there were a lot of random time jumps (weeks, a month, etc.), that didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the romance! 4/5 stars.

Holy hell. I can’t believe this is only Chelle Sloan's second book. This book had a great story with depth, the characters were lovable and the romance was beautiful.

Chelle weaved a story with a little humor, a little sexiness and loads of romance. My heart was full and complete.

I can't wait to get more from Chelle and devour her words.

4 Stars!

Chelle Sloan is a brand new author for me and what she delivered in her new release was really, really good y'all. She took sports romance and gave it such a fresh spin with the storyline. I devoured this beauty in just a couple of hours and I regret absolutely nothing.

Off the Record was a sexy, sweet, fun, unputdownable, standalone romance with two characters I hit it off with immediately and one love story I couldn't get enough of. Hunter and Sadie were so refreshing, her a sports reporter and him a new coach. They had great chemistry, quite a few unforgettable moments (especially that first meeting!), and sooooo many feels the. entire. book.

If you like a feel good romance that'll sweep you off your feet and make you feel like your caught up in the game then this is an absolute must read.

I can definitely recommend this book.

Off the Record
Written by: Chelle Sloan

Off the Record is my first Chelle Sloan read but it won’t be my last. I have promised myself another visit to Nashville soon to read Off Track, Davis and Bethany’s story!

Women sports writers, they are here to stay and when fiery question asker Sadie Benson takes up residence in the Nashville Fury’s pressroom, the post game questions are more for the thinking coach.

Hunter McAvoy, son of one of football’s beloved players! Hunter played ball as well, even won himself a champion trophy…but he see’s his role in football from another angle, Hunter wants to coach.

So now we know the “players” so to speak, what are readers going to see in Off the Record. Probably one of the best sports books I’ve read in a while.

The instant connection between these two is what catches readers and their fast pace banter and innuendo hold them hostage. From family issues on Hunter’s side and the first real connection Sadie has ever made with the opposite sex, readers get to see their relations begin, flounder, then go full force.

The only thing that can potentially damage this relationship is the fact Hunter is new to the Fury and the youngest Offensive coach in the league, while Sadie is the only female sports reporter with credentials to the Fury PressRoom. Can you say potential conflict of interest!

I enjoyed every page in this book, I can’t at this moment think of one thing I would change.
An absolute 5 star review on this by me! Go Fury!

I loved this book! Chelle really brought the characters to life and had a very well developed plot line. I fell in love with Sadie and Hunter from the start. Some ups and downs, twists and turns all leasing to an HEA. Can't wait to see what she comes out with next!

Did I ever think I would be staying up all night devouring a romance novel? No, but here I am.

After years of staying away, Chelle Sloan has converted me to a romance lover. Sadie is such a fun character (Hunter is too, but I love Sadie more). I laughed out loud, a lot. To the point where if my husband saw me over my kindle laughing he knew it was from this book.
No spoilers but Sadie asks some zingers when doing her job, and one early on had me in love with her. Now onto the next Nashville Fury book!!

My blog partner Angie was lucky enough to ARC this book. It was her first read by Chelle Sloan, and she raved about it to me. Now I’m lucky enough to ALC the audiobook before it’s release date. I totally get why Angie fell in love with Chelle Sloan’s books after reading this one. It was sooooo good! The storyline is great and hooks you in from the start. The characters are well-developed and loveable, including the secondary characters. I easily got lost in the fantastic world she’d created. The relationship between Hunter and Sadie is sweet, fun, sexy, and completely swoon-worthy. By the end of this story Chelle Sloan will have you believing in love at first sight and happily ever after!

Lia Holland and Michael Gallagher were cast perfectly for their roles. The flow, timing, pace, and characterizations were perfect. It was clear they had an emotional connection to the main characters and their storyline. What a fantastic performance by 2 extraordinary narrators! I devoured every minute of it. If you’re a fan of sports romance or contemporary romance, I highly recommend you listen to this audiobook!

Thank you to Pink Flamingo Productions, Audiobook Obsession, and the author for gifting me this amazing audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Loved Every Minute Of It!

This story has a unique storyline yet is very relevant to today's world.

Sadie is a sports journalist. She's great a what she does but because it's a man's world, she will always have those that criticizes her and doubts her. As Sadie states, "Another day, another idiot I had to prove myself to."

Enter Hunter, Nashville Fury's new offensive coordinator. Also Sadie's love interest. Both risk a lot by having a relationship with the other. Their relationship is unconventional and eventually, it takes a toll on both of them.

This is a feel good romance. It's about a couple that has normal couple issues. From the introductory phase of dating to the parts where things get tough, anyone that is in a relationship or has been in one, will be able to relate to this story. Chelle Sloan has taken a fictional couple with stellar jobs and made them relatable to just about anyone.

The only complaint I have is the fact that Clemson is the team's go to for drafting. Everytime Clemson popped up, I rolled my eyes. (This is a joke - sort of!)

This was an alright sports romance. It was quick paced and an easy read, and I did like that the main male character was a coach instead of the quarterback like I thought he would be. I felt like this lacked a bit of depth though and some parts seemed more suited to a teen romance than adults.

The main female character is Sadie, a fantastic sports writer who is underestimated by her male coworkers. She has to work harder than them to be taken seriously and is constantly being accused of sleeping with someone to get her inside information. When she meets new coach Hunter, they have instant attraction, almost insta-love really. They can't be together because Sadie could lose her job and coaches and reporters aren't supposed to mix apparently. They decide to secretly date instead to see if things work out.

Sadie does this thing where when Hunter gets her riled up in public, she says disgusting things to herself to calm down. I hated this part, who wants to read gross words in the middle of a romance? Sadie also did a couple things I thought were juvenile and one part near the end really made me dislike her. And she didn't even feel bad about it or ever apologize, so I was off the Sadie train.

There are some cute moments and I liked seeing Hunter succeed. I just think this could have taken place in college since the characters acted younger than late twenties.

This is an honest review for an arc received.

“Maybe I like throwing you off your game.”

Sadie Benson is a sports reporter that covers the Nashville Fury. She’s happy with her position and loves the fact that she’s known for her fast reporting of breaking news stories before her male counterparts. When she finds out the new Offensive Coordinator is about to be named, she runs with her story. She is instantly affected by Hunter McAvoy and this could be trouble.

“I know we shouldn’t be doing this. But if I don’t kiss you right now, it will be the biggest regret of my life.”

Hunter McAvoy is about to interview for his first big coaching position. When a chance encounter in a local sandwich shop has him hoping for the position just so he can ask about the beautiful woman who recommended the chicken wrap. Hunters pursuit of Sadie has them walking a delicate line so they don’t damage their careers.

“We should write the handbook on having a secret relationship.”

As Sadie and Hunter’s relationship progresses, so do the trials of having a secret relationship. When a monumental story breaks, trust is broken misunderstandings occur could their love be lost? What happens when secrets are revealed? Will there relationship survive or will it perish? How can you forgive the love of your life when you believe they chose their job over their love for you?

“It now feels like I have everything I have ever wanted.”

This was a Friday Night Lights 5 star read! Ms. Sloan did a wonderful job developing the characters. I loved the instant attraction they immediately felt and the love and respect that, as a reader, you get to experience in the moment with them. A secret relationship is no joke people! Love at first sight can happen. Happily ever after’s are possible if you find that one special person you are truly meant to be with. If you’re looking for a light hearted, feel good story, one-click this one today!

So first off I want to begin with I was so excited when I saw that one of my favorite TikTokers was putting out a book. I knew immediately that I wanted to read it, I really didn't even care what the book was about! Let me tell you something this book did not disappoint. This story just flowed so unbelievably well and I couldn't put it down.
Sadie is a sports writer and a damn good one at that. Most men are intimidated by her because she can talk football as good as she can write about football. She's always on top of her game when it comes to getting the inside scoop on her stories.
Hunter is a new up and coming football coach, looking to make his own mark on the sport out of his dads lime light.
By a chance encounter Sadie and Hunter meet at a little sandwich shop and are instantly drawn towards each other.
They can't stop thinking about each other as time goes on but they soon find out that they can not be together because of their jobs.
Sadie decides to take a little vacation something that she never does since she is a workaholic, and who does she happen to run into none other than Hunter. This trip seals their fate and their attraction towards grows even stronger.
I don't want to write all about it just because of the fact that it you just need to read all about it.
I whole heartedly recommend this book if you love love a good story and is just well written. I will definitely be reading more for Chelle Sloan!! 5 out of 5 stars for me on this one!!

I want to thank Love Affair With Fiction and Chelle Sloan for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This sophomore novel from Chelle Sloan is a fantastic introduction to a new series.  Based on the fictional Nashville Fury football team, we are introduced to a new charismatic cast of characters.

Off The Record is the story of Hunter and Sadie and what a fabulous story it is!

Sadie is a woman sportswriter fighting against the male-dominated career in which she thrives and rocks it like a bad b*tch that she is! When she happens upon a "stranger" in the sandwich shop, she knows she is about to get the scoop of a lifetime.

Hunter is the newest addition to the Nashville Fury's coaching staff.  He has a lot of speculation and a big shadow to fight his way from under but he is the will to do whatever it takes to make a name for himself.

When these two meet, sparks fly immediately and they just can't fight the magnetism that draws them together, even at the risk to both of their careers. They just can't fight fate and they both work hard to make sure their professional lives and personal lives stay separate until it seems like they can't.  The angst is this story is perfectly blended with the heart you want in a romance!

The dialogue is funny and fresh, the swoons are out of this world and the smexy times are outstanding and not overly done, it's the right blend of heat and class!

I cannot wait to read what comes next from this series and who will get their stories next!  Well done Chelle!

I listened to an advanced copy of this as an audiobook.
This book was had a "feel good story" vibe from the very beginning. Hunter has issues and hang-ups, but they were part of what makes him the man he is. He is a workaholic who is starting a new job with the Nashville Fury football team. Sadie is a journalist who has her dream job as a sports reporter covering the Nashville Fury football team. These two are a match not so made in heaven. But, even with the conflict of interest regarding their jobs, there is an instant connection from the second they meet. I could tell from the beginning that their chemistry was going to be epic. These two just melded together in the best way possible. There was a level of naturality and comfort and domestication that only the absolute BEST relationships can boast. I loved the way that Hunter & Sadie were just completely upfront with each other from the very beginning. It can be so frustrating when I want to keep screaming at the MCs to "just communicate". The story line was solid and the characters well developed. I just absolutely fell in love with their story.
The narration for this book produced by Pink Flamingo Productions and performed by Lia Holland & Michael Gallagher was great. The two narrators had a great presence that embodied Hunter & Sadie perfectly. Both had excellent range in voice changing for the different characters and excellent range in emotions. Loved this dual narration.

✨I absolutely loved Sadie and Hunter. They were both super relatable and their relationship was adorable. I also really liked the twist on the normal sports romance, making it about a journalist and a coach. It did seem like at times I was being told about all these interesting things that happened after the fact, and I felt like I was missing out a little. A few parts were slow reading for me, but I think that goes back to my preference of reading through scenes instead of being told about them later. Overall, I really enjoyed this one. If you like sports romance, but are looking for a new spin, this sweet read should be just what you’re looking for.✨

Sadie Benson is a reporter for the Nashville Fury football team. She is great at her job and will stop at nothing to get the story out. Honestly, she loves her job more than pretty much anything else. Until she meets Hunter.

Hunter McAvoy is finally stepping out of his father’s football shadow by becoming the youngest offensive coach in football history. He wants to prove to himself, the team, and the fans that he was the right choice. What he doesn’t need is a distraction in the form of a beautiful reporter.

Sadie and Hunter know their relationship shouldn’t happen, but their feelings become too strong to ignore. So they decide to try to make it work without telling anyone, because neither Sadie or Hunter want to sacrifice their careers. Unfortunately, keeping their relationship a secret is harder than they expected.

What a great story with a different take on a sports romance.  Normally it's all about the players, but this time we get a coach and a sports reporter.  And I couldn't love this dynamic more.  With this you get a secret relationship, characters that are strong and successful in their professions, and passion both on and off the field.  From the beginning they know the relationship would be frowned upon and that it won't be easy.  I think that's one reason I like this story so much.  They have to work at it and the road to HEA is definitely a bumpy one.  I was enchanted with both of these characters from the very beginning.  Sadie is feisty, strong, and determined to carve her spot in a male dominated field.  Hunter is striving to make his own way and out from the shadow of his father.  He is also very sweet, sexy and oh-so-swoony!  This passion and tenacity from both characters not only directs their careers but their relationship as well.  I love this world that this author has built and I can't wait to read the next book.  You definitely need to read this book!

Sadie and Hunter give us such a sweet story! It's romantic and Hunter is so so swoony with his actions and words. If you are on the hunt for sweet light read with a little steam along with some football this is the book for you.

Sadie and Hunter have an instant connection from their very first encounter. It's a forbidden relationship when it comes to their profession and how it will look to others. Sadie is a sports journalist who covers the Nashville Fury which is the team Hunter is a new coach for. Sadie is great at her job but always needing to prove herself to the male journalists. Coaches and journalists often don't have the same agenda and a relationship among them is frowned upon. Will it look like Hunter is feeding info to Sadie or vice versa if they pursue their feelings? The characters are very relatable and I hope to see more Nashville Fury books in the future.

Chelle has an amazing talent as an author and I enjoy her humor, wit, and banter that come through her characters. Definitely a one-click author for me!
