I have found that this has gotten better the longer it has been in the pool. The first few weeks, I remained skeptical, but now I am sold. I just wish I had known about these ionizers before. I think this one is great. I have a somewhat large pool, 18x36 with a 10.5 foot deep end (diving board). I am only using one ionizer and it works great. Early on, I continued to shock the pool once each week, but I stopped that as there is no need. I would tell you to be sure to clean the ionizer every 2 weeks and give it a few weeks before passing judgement on it's effectiveness. Believe me, it works!
I just read the negative comments and I'm not sure what happened with those people? Purple pool, etc.? But my experience has been great. The condensation in the solar panel has never stopped the unit working. So far now, I have used my ionizer for one year. I live in TX, so I have left it in the pool year-round. I am just about to replace the element, so that lasted one year for me. I assume the solar part will continue working, but if it stopped, I would definitely buy another one.
