In northern Uganda, an American special forces team is decimated by a group of normally peaceful farmers. Video of the attack shows even women and children possessing almost supernatural speed and strength, consumed with a rage that makes them immune to pain, fear, and all but the most devastating injuries.

Covert-One's top operative, army microbiologist Colonel Jon Smith, is sent to investigate the attack and finds evidence of a parasitic infection that for centuries has been causing violent insanity and then going dormant. This time, though, it's different. The parasite had been purposely kept alive and crudely transmitted in acts of terrorism. Now the director of Iranian Intelligence is in Uganda trying to obtain this biological weapon to unleash it on the West.

Smith and his team are ambushed and cut off from all outside support just as they begin to suspect that forces much more powerful than the Iranians are in play-forces that can be traced to Washington itself.

The Ares Decision caught my attention because it was advertised as a novel that Vince Flynn would have written, if he had lived. Having withdrawal symptoms by no longer being able to get Vince's novels, I order it with some reservations. But I needed not to be hesitant, as The Ares Decision held me totally until I read to the very end. Covert-One, the presidents very own, and completely off the grid clandestine group, is put into force after one of America's elite special forces team is completely wiped out. The team goes into northern Uganda and in the fight that takes place has it recorded by special cameras on the American helmets. From that video, the president decides it is time for his Covert-One group take over and Jon Smith is sent in. What he goes through will have you sitting up all night reading! It is a great read...

It was a really nice read, exciting, and realistic given the subject matter. Characters were full and compelling. Only complaint would be that it wrapped up too quickly and easily... Al,last felt like it was missing several chapters. But still enjoyed it.

Once the various players were identified , action was very gripping and the story line developed well. The " parasites" description and characteristics were defined to a point of understanding the horrors of being infected while still leaving plenty for the imagination. Another e r Great Covert #1 novel. Keep up good work.

Story was excellent. Extremely well done and a pleasure to read, but the last chapter appears the author's wife had just caledl hm for dinner Story tended to fall off a cliff in the last chapter. Very unsavory ending, in my opoinion..

As always a great story. Great to see Randi part of the team. I like the part where she curtly reminds him she saved there butts . But just outstanding writing as always by Kyle Mills !!! Love everything he does . Well on to the next adventure with Jon and company.

This is not a typical R.Ludlum novel but rather something that strays more into the realm of science fiction.
It's about a parasitic infection or disease that turns people into zombies like the ones in 28 days later or Quarantine.
In this tale there are certain individuals who are attempting to use this as a sort of bioweapon and certain individuals
who of course want to stop that.
For those who liked the previously mentioned movies this story would be highly recommended.
At the same time it does have the same elements of espionage and conspiracy that is expected in a Robert Ludlum
novel.
Which makes this zombie story unique.

It is an action packed fast paced story with a lot of intrigue going on behind the scenes.

Excellent Mills style and characters but he seems to try and put Smith is every possible bad situation. I find it hard to relate to the plot but it is a very interesting concept. It is definitely worth a read.

An illuminating story that highlights the dangers of extremist ideology. The downside is that it continues a theme of demonising a nation and its politico-religious beliefs.

I like Robert Ludlum’s books and I suppose his legacy goes on through various talented writers. To be honest I wasn’t sure if Covert One would hit the bar but I wasn’t disappointed. Exciting and well-written!
