4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 895 ratings

A Dublin suburb is rocked by multiple murder investigations while the detective in charge must also face a personal crisis in this Irish crime thriller.

When Detective Garda Sergeant Mike West and his partner, Garda Andrews, are called to an abandoned house, they are shocked to find the body of a small child stuffed inside a suitcase. With no child reported missing, they must first determine who she is.

As their search for her identity reaches beyond Ireland, another murder takes their attention, one with a surfeit of suspects. Meanwhile, West’s personal life is upended when someone targets his partner with compromising photographs. With troubles mounting on all sides, restoring peace to the village of Foxrock seems like an impossible task.

I was introduced to this the Mike West / Edel Johnson story series by the Facebook's page BookBub was giving the first book in the series away for free. I immediately fell in love with this series. This is the fourth book in this series. The story is set in modern day Dublin, Ireland. The stories, the characters, the and flow of the plot could be taken from real life. That is what makes the characters so believable. Wrong, so easy to identify with and get wrapped up in what is happening in their lives, personally and professionally. If you enjoy a good who-done-it police procedural with depth character and plot, you should read Valerie Leigh's books - any of them! I can't for the next book in the series.

Mike is a wonderful character. He’s both a man’s man and a woman’s man. He inspires me to want one!

The story line is well done. More than one thing going on throughout. The characters are also well done. Finally, a copper capable of having a normal personal relationship.

I stumbled across the Mike West / Edel Johnson story series almost by accident. The idea that the story was set in modern day Ireland is what caught my interest. Today, after almost binge reading all three books in the series, all I can say is more, please! The stories, the characters, the ebb and flow of the plot and weaving of the stories is so ... almost prosaic so normal as to be taken from real life. That is what makes the characters so believable. Wrong, so easy to identify with and get wrapped up in what is happening in their lives, personally and professionally. If you enjoy a good who-done-it police procedular with depth character and plot, you should read Valerie Leigh's books - any of them!

Love this series. I am enjoying the cast of characters. This series would adapt well to a TV series (similar to Vera).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cleverly written.

I loved the way that two unseemingly connected plots came together into one harrowing story. A very neat piece of writing in my opinion.
I am not one for spoilers, but the relationship between Mike and Edel certainly strengthens nicely through no fault of her own. Definitely worth reading and more so if read in order of the series.

This was probably the weakest book in the series. Really how much grief is poor Edel to suffer? Her main man is looking a bit like a dope in the romantic area as well. The plot was somewhat convoluted, almost gave up a few times. I hope there is another in the series.

I have read and enjoyed the first 4 books in this series, all of which have been republished under new titles. I have actually bouxght no 4 twice, thinking I hadn't read it. Just a bit puzzled as to why the author would do this, and a bit annoyed. Enjoying no 5 at the moment, which I definitely haven't read.
