Just when you thought you knew everything going on in Coyote Ridge...

“Rex” by Nicole Edwards, is book 6 in the “Walkers of Coyote Ridge” series. This book was a bit of a surprise for me since it really didn’t follow the same type of path the other books do, but I was OK with that. This is a M/M romance and can be read as a stand alone, but I would not recommend it. You get so much more out of this story, and all Nicole Edwards books, if you read them in order.

We start with meeting Rex as a child and begin to learn about what a rough childhood he had, but, we only get a little view. The more you read, the more you’ll learn. Move forward 14 years and the bigger story really begins. Now we meet Jack, as he is about to have his life changed in a way he never expected. Due to this change, he begins questioning many things about himself.

These are two men who have a lot to work out to become the men the are meant to be. Of course at this point you are hoping Jack and Rex meet, because you realize with all the “stuff” going on in their lives they “need” to connect, so they can help each other figure things out. What you don’t expect, is how it will help change them and what they thought they knew about themselves.

Now of course, being set in Coyote Ridge, you know that the Walkers will be involved with the story and each time one says or does something, you smile, just because you love them and this series so much. I don’t want to give away any of this story, but I do think this book was a bit different. Probably because we don’t know much about Rex before this, so it did take me a bit longer to get into the story, but don’t let that stop you from reading this book. The book does not end on a cliffhanger but it does seem to introduce a story line you know is coming next, so now I am waiting with bated breath. Rafe, I want, no, NEED to know your story.

Back in Coyote Ridge

3.5 stars for - Rex - book six in the Walkers of Coyote Ridge series by Nicole Edwards. This book can be read as a complete standalone but the series is quite good and I highly recommend reading them all if you have the chance. This is a MM romance so reader discretion is advised.
Rex Sharpe had a horrible childhood that left deep scars. Casual hook-ups have been the norm for him never wanting anything too meaningful was always what he went for. Living in Coyote Ridge all his life has left him with the longing to turn his family home into a bed and breakfast especially now that his cousin - Travis - brought lots of commerce to the area with Alluring Indulgence resort too. What starts as a night hanging out with his cousins enjoying a few drinks ends up changing his world in so many new ways.
Jack Cunningham is a runner. Any time things get hard he takes off and chooses to ignore the problem instead of dealing with it head on. This time is no different when he ends up in a little hole in the wall bar drunk out of his mind trying to forget. The gorgeous stranger that helped him back to his room is so appealing it’s making him question everything he wants in a relationship. After all Jack has never been with a man before but Rex is making him question why not...
This was a good story full of lots of angst. In my opinion too much time was spent on the push and pull and it was really dragging there towards the end. While this one wasn’t my favorite, I will still continue on with the series for sure.

A hard fought love story

I really enjoyed Rex and Jack's story despite wanting to knock their heads together on occasion and wanting to seriously shake Jack! As always, Nicole gives us two strong, real, lovable characters who are not perfect, because nobody is. These two men are both also carrying some serious baggage. But neither one of these sexy men saw the other one coming and what ensues is a battle of wills that takes them on quite the hot yet angsty ride. It took a lot for Rex to trust Jack and a lot for Jack to accept who he really was deep down and exactly what was happening between them. Only after they truly open their hearts, souls and minds, are they able to see the future in each other and let me tell you, that is worth dealing with all the denial and angst.
