My Darling Rogue (A Wicked Rogues Romance Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 189 ratings

Falling in love with a rogue is risky...

Lady Celia Buchanan lives her life in a social whirl. And she's hiding a secret that could ruin her. She needs a suitable husband who is either blissfully unaware of the devastating truth or adores her so much it won’t matter. She doubts such a man exists until she discovers Gabriel Rose watches her from the shadows. He may be a rogue, but his kisses set Celia on fire, and the things he whispers in her ear are utterly scandalous.

Gabriel Rose straddles the border between nobility and London’s murky shadows. He is content there—until he discovers an obsession with the one woman he can never claim as his. But when Celia grants him a kiss in the darkness, her fate is sealed. Once Gabriel tastes her sweetness, he cannot let her go. What must he do to keep her forever?

Destiny is a fickle creature. A bastard is abruptly elevated to the rank of marquess, and a lady is caught in a compromising situation. A hasty marriage may not erase dark secrets and society's prejudices, but will a dangerous threat from the past force these star-crossed lovers to realize they belong together?

*** Please be aware this book contains adult situations, bad language, and many, many steamy scenes. If you find prior assault, dub-con, dirty talk, and an unapologetic, possessive hero to be offensive, you might want to read a different book.***

April lives on Florida’s Emerald Coast. Married for 35 years to her high school sweetheart, they have one married daughter. April is tolerated by a sassy Quarter Horse, ruled by a bossy German Shepherd and adored by a Siamese cat with an unhealthy obsession for sitting in April’s lap and staring at her face. When not writing about romance, April and her husband attend concerts, plan trips with their daughter and son-in-law and relax by the pool with family and friends.

Wicked Rogues Ahead

Wicked Rogues Ahead
April Moran is back with a new series of Regency/Victorian romances, beginning with My Darling Rogue, first of the Wicked Rogues.Gabriel Rose is a man of shadows and dark deeds. Feared by men and lusted after by the ladies of the ton looking for excitement.Abandoned by his father he grew up on the streets of Paris and London. He moves in the dark recesses of English society. He's a trusted friend to powerful men. Rich by his own intelligence and skills, he stands at the edges of society, where he is barely tolerated, and wants for nothing more than the hand of Lady Celia Buchanan. Lady Cecilia Buchanan is the younger sister of reformed rake, Tristan Buchanan. She's protected, coddled and pampered. She has also managed to thwart her mother's very overt machinations to see her daughter wed. But Lady Cecilia has a secret, one that she believes makes her unwedable. He proposes. She rejects. Let the games begin.Their story takes us from the powers and privilege of peerage, through the dirty underbelly of London, and to the halls of the House of Lords, and the Queen herself. April Moran likes to showcase her characters internal struggles. On the outside, you would think that Gabriel is the self confident rogue, uncaring of society's opinion, finding them foolish and self indulgent. And while the latter is true, he's very aware of the opinion the ton holds of him. It effects his every action, and every decision he makes is filtered through the lens of the actions of a man who longs to be respected and well regarded. And though this is very much Gabriel's story, Celia and her secret are central to Gabriel. Her secret is a stab at the double standards and expectations of society. Don't think I've forgotten the heat. Moran brings it in this story. Gabriel is a strong, dominant man, and he takes the sensual education of Lady Celia very seriously. Very. Seriously. Read by a fan and bring a bucket of ice. Definitely NSFW. I look forward to this new series of rogues from April Moran. And make sure you read her backlist, The Untamed Duke, and Moran's contemporary romance, The Bloodfeather Promise are two favorites of mine.

Hot, hot, hot!

I loved Celia and Gabriel’s story. It had all of the emotional depth and steaminess that I was looking for. Celia and Gabriel are two people who just understand each other and are really the missing puzzle pieces to each other’s souls.

Gabriel is my new book boyfriend. He is EVERYTHING I love in a hero: big, brawny, good-looking, honest, possessive and fiercely protective. To me, he was a combo of Gabriel (sidebar: Gabriel is like the perfect book boyfriend name) Sauvageau from Tempting Fate by Kerrigan Byrne and Sebastian from Taming Ivy by Ms. Moran herself. Gabriel had that “touch her and die” vibe that is my hero catnip.

Celia, I struggled with a bit more. Initially I sort of disliked her because I felt that she was overly rude to Gabriel on several occasions. I grew to love her though. She’s smart, fun, resourceful and eventually has a nice balance between being a strong woman and also being able to surrender to her man. Considering her past history, it made sense that Celia was “prickly” as Gabriel referred to her (my prickly sugarplum, it works!).

Together they are magic. Gabriel is able to pull a more vulnerable side out of Celia. The love scenes are pure fire. I particularly loved the scene in the garden after there was a game of catching fireflies. I pictured that scene and imagined that it would be so beautiful on-screen in a film or series.

Overall, this was another wonderful addition to the series. I had been disappointed in the previous book with Violet and Tristan, I just didn’t connect with the story like I did with this one and The Untamed Duke. To me, My Darling Rouge, is on par with the Untamed Duke which is saying a lot. The Untamed Duke is a comfort read that I’ve read dozens of times now. I expect that I will be rereading My Darling Rogue every few months.

I received an ARC for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

After reading a ton of Ms Morans reviews, I decided on this book to read… and I happily say it was a fabulous decision…. This is the story of Gabriel and Cecila… Gabriel the neglected son of a Marquees and Cecila the spoiled daughter of one, who holds a dark secret from her past..

Gabriel falls for Cecila and therefore does what men of their time did… he claimed her.. I loved the character Gabriel, strong, moral high ground, tough and yesterday gentle at the same time… his job is to unlocked Cecila and her secrets…which he slowly does..

Cecila’s character grew on me.. i did not initially care for her antics, even tho I knew why (guessed it, before I read it)… once everything starts coming out, Cecila comes into her own with the help of Gabriel..

Well written storyline and character development have lead me to check out more of her books…. Can’t was for the sequel.. a def recommend

Celia has no want to marry. Her somewhat reckless behavior of late aside, she wants freedom, but she also has a secret. If she has to marry, she wants it to be for undying love. Gabriel has no interest in marriage. The man who has been the right hand of his friend for so many years, trusted by also walking a line between the underworld and nobility. But something about Celia drives him to distraction, and the reverse is true as well. Destiny and fate play their cards, and perhaps a bit of manipulation is there from both Gabriel and Celia to bring about the inevitable. How much they lust and care for each other isn’t in question. It’s how much of those things in the darkness can be brought to the light.
This book is a spin-off of the author’s Taming series. Directly connected to multiple characters in that trilogy, it can still be read as a complete standalone. I very much looked forward to this book, I really wanted to read more about Gabriel. Celia seemed very interesting as well. Turns out, they are fire together and truly made for each other. Ms. Moran really fleshed out the characters in this book, and kept it fun and sexy, as well as intriguing, from start to finish. It says it’s book one in what I hope will be an ongoing series. I definitely recommend this one.

I enjoyed this book. Cecilia and Gabriel have great chemistry. I really liked the vibe that Gabriel gave as the leading man and he said some really swoon worthy things. Cecilia had the right amount of feisty energy and I enjoyed the dialogue between them. I look forward to reading more.

One thing that really stands out in April Moran's previous books is heart-rending angsty romantic goodness. She has a way of pulling you into the problems the characters are having and making you really invested in the HEA even if the hero is an a$$.

While this book didn't have as much angst as the Taming Ivy or The Untamed Duke it was still a great read.

Without spoiling anything - Celia's 'big issue' was dealt with in ways that I strongly relate to. Rather than being crazy fearful and introverted, Celia kinda went the opposite way and this is not how it normally goes in romance where this issue is explored. I feel like the norm shames and isolates readers who respond like Celia did so I'm very pleased with Moran's choices here. You have to read the book to know what I'm talking about here :) .

Moran had problems in past books with the aristocratic titles and such, and while there are still a couple of issues in this book there is a tremendous amount of improvement in this area. Her growth as a historical romance writer is evident and I am proud to be able to follow this.

Gabriel was honestly overall a nice guy. And Celia was a wonderful heroine. I have zero complaints. Their chemistry was very sweet - and you could tell they liked each other. I think they were two people doing the best they could with what they had been handed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this now... April never disappoints

April Moran's books are always ones I don't hesitate buy and read, from the first I came across 'Taming Ivy' (go read it now) to this one, I've loved them all.
The way she crafts the language to describe what is happening throughout, how the characters think and feel, the push and pull between the H&H and the other characters is just brilliant. I loved that this book had my much loved characters in from her previous books too, like visiting old friends. Great story arc for a bit of much needed escapism with the ending we all want to take us to a happy place... waiting for the next April!?

Some of the many excellent parts...
...but right now every shred of self preservation he possessed was burning into cinders...
...Like a moth incinerated by the very flame enticing it closer, he might never recover from this encounter with Celia...
"Tonight is an excellent example of why you should refrain from such reckless behaviour"...
His grin turned lethal."Ah, it is to be a lesson, then. One I'll happily teach you."
...A strange sort of fire lit Gabriel's gaze. His hand tightened on her chin holding her immobile. The air surrounding then crackled with intense promise...

Side note: heat level = hot, hot, hot...so don't buy if this kinda thing offends you, you have been warned

April takes you into another time and place. I couldn’t put it down. Loved the story between the two lead characters. I felt like saying I will have him instead! Perfect read. I received an arc copy but opinions are my own.
