Laura Stewart lives in a picturesque village just outside of Glasgow with her husband and three daughters, along with an affectionate golden retriever, excitable black lab and three discerning cats. As well as constantly being in need of a good hoovering, her house is noisy and chaotic and she wouldn't have it any other way.

After studying English Literature at Glasgow University, she attended some creative writing evening classes and was delighted to find herself amongst like-minded folk with a passion for writing.

Her debut novel was shortlisted to the final few of the Richard and Judy Search for a Bestseller competition.

When not writing, Laura is usually to be found reading; with at least a couple of books on the go at any one time. She also enjoys losing herself in art galleries and cooking up hearty meals to be enjoyed well into the evening with good wine and good friends.

She has lofty ambitions for her garden and recently joined a local community choir.

One day she hopes to add bees, ducks and a couple of alpacas to her menagerie.

Laura Stewart's written a fun novel with storylines and characters that could have wandered into the cozy mystery genre from the witty, cleverly plotted, romcom-centered books of Sophie Kinsella. There is also a fun, meta layer. When one of Stewart's characters bemoans the flat literary quality of a cozy mystery series the central character is reading, I think this is Stewart's own critique. That Stewart, like her character, is letting us know it's time for a fresh twist (and I don't mean by including a knitting theme ;) to the ever-popular cozy mystery. And here it is. Thanks, Laura! Of course, I'm now hankering for a trip to northwestern Scotland, too.

It was entertaining. I'm trying to figure out why I like it. It is not my usual type of story. I usually like classic mysteries. I just found it a fun read.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed and look forward to reading more from her in the future. This is a well written story that takes mystery to a new level. The characters are connectable and truly brought the story to life. They made the story fun and entertaining to read. This is a fast paced story that is engaging and a story that I really enjoyed. The twists and turns had me tuning pages fast just to see what would happen to Amelia. She is a great chracter and I highly recommend this book.

I am a big fan of classic Golden Age mysteries, but sometimes find today’s cozies a bit dull and predictable. Well this certainly wasn’t! An engaging and believable heroine, great cast of characters, and a twisty plot worthy of Christie. Surprises to the last page! I hope it’s the start of a series

Laughter, mystery, red herrings galore, and an all-around great mystery, love story, local color, and brilliant Brit humor! I'm ready to read it again. I would love a sequel!

This book offers a little bit of everything! There is a cozy mystery which definitely kept me engaged and guessing, but there is also romance, small town charm, and some amazing character growth embedded in the story as well. If there is a follow up to this book I would read it for sure. I loved Amelia and her cast of friends.

If the potty mouth and sex bead been left out, it would have been a good read. I trudged through to the end but won’t read this author again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue, excitement, romance and some laughs - a recipe for a great cosy!

This book was an enjoyable reading experience because it had everything I like in a cosy mystery. Although it started off being a bit ‘blah’, once the reader was transported to Scotland, the mystery and intrigue really picked up a pace. I enjoyed the characters and their very realistic interactions and found myself quite sucked into their different stories. All in all, I thoroughly recommend this novel by Laura Stewart.

An enjoyable read it is exactly what it says. Plenty of interesting stuff and a good ending. Nicely unpredictable too.
