About the Author

Anita was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and has lived all her life there. She has three adult children and seven grandchildren ranging in age from 9 months to 21 years. Anita and Dave have been married almost 49 years! She wrote Beautiful in 1985 and had it accepted for publication. They were the contract stage when the publishing house went into liquidation. Like many another book it ended up in the loft until two years ago when she resurrected it, retyped all 100,000 words (it was originally written on an Amstrad 8256 and all she had was a hard copy!) and sent it off to Bloodhound Books. She is now retired from my life of being a Patchwork Tutor and HGV driver's wife and concentrates on patchwork for the pleasure of it and writing. She started writing at around the age of 8 - she clearly remembers writing 'novels' at that age which were actually short stories split into chapters! Anita's genre is murder - but murder with a good reason behind it!

Anita Waller was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in 1946. She married Dave in 1967 and they have three adult children.

With many books to her name, she feels she has finally realised her dream. She writes mainly psychological thrillers, but was commissioned in 2018 to write a cosy mystery series, the Kat and Mouse trilogy. By November 2020 this will have grown to five books, plus a spin-off standalone novel called Epitaph, featuring Doris, one of the characters from the series. This series has now led on to a spin-off series, the Connection Trilogy, with books entitled Blood Red, Code Blue and Mortal Green. All these books, which will number twenty by the time Mortal Green is available, have been published by Bloodhound Books.

In 2021 Waller signed a five book deal with Boldwood Books, and currently has five published books with them: One Hot Summer, The Family at No.12, Fatal Secrets (the first in a new series set in Sheffield), The Couple Across the Street, and Fatal Lies, the second in the Forrester series. The Family at No.12 reached #2 in the Amazon Kindle charts.

She is now in her late-seventies with a new Boldwood contract, happily writing most days and would dearly love to plan a novel, but has accepted that isn’t the way of her mind. Every novel starts with a sentence and she waits to see where that sentence and her characters will take her. If writer's block intrudes, be sure there will be a death.

In her life away from the computer in the corner of her kitchen, she is a Sheffield Wednesday supporter with blue blood in her veins!

Her genre is murder - necessary murder.

I haven’t enjoyed reading books for so long and I finally found a series that was fantastic. I’m a 75-year-old lady and I have always been an avid reader up until about five years ago when books lost their interest. I was sorry to see the end of Kat and Mouse. eThey kept me going into the wee hours of the morning. I’m really looking forward to seeing what else IAnita has written and getting into those books. Thank you for many hours of enjoyment.

I’ve really enjoyed all ofthe books in this great series. The mysteries were inventive and fresh. The series did get “darker” as it went on with the last book “Murder Unjoyful” being pretty dark. It was interesting though. Sorry that there are more. I would love to follow he newest developments!

A complicated story with many plot twists and inter connected relationships. Had me guessing until the very end. Mind bending.

I could not put this book down. I have read the others in this series so the characters are like old friends. This has a great mystery and quite a few surprises you won't expect.

I love these characters and the continuation of their story. It was so hard to put down and stop reading. I hope to see more stories of the characters in the future.

As usual, I had no idea who-dun-it in any of these books. And enjoyed the trip to find out in each.

MURDER UNJOYFUL (Kat and Mouse Mysteries Book #5) by Anita Waller is the fifth and final book in this British cozy mystery series. While set in the holiday season around Christmas, the crime and its consequences are darker and less of a strictly cozy mystery than the others in the series. While the mystery can be read as a standalone, I feel the series should be read in order due to the continued evolution and connections of the main characters.

As Christmas approaches everyone at Connection is making their holiday plans until a new and urgent case arrives at their door. Nineteen years ago, Paul Fraser kidnapped and almost killed Julie Clark. She lived, but she was paralyzed and testified against him in court. The felon, who should have been locked up for life, has been paroled and has failed to report for his monthly check-in. He has disappeared and Julie and her husband are afraid he will return to kill the woman who put him in prison.

Connection is on the case with help from a protection firm to protect the family as they search for Paul Fraser. DCI Tessa Marsden and DS Hannah Granger are also searching for him as he begins to leave dead and wounded bodies in his wake. This case will need everything Connection and their friends have to offer and will take more than they could ever imagine.

This was an excellent end to the series. The mystery itself had me completely engrossed and I was continually surprised by the twists and turns it took before the solution. I was happy for all the ladies of Connection and the partners they have found over the series. That said, there are also some terribly sad occurrences in this book to some main characters that had me so upset, but no spoilers allowed. Everything was tied up in the end and you believe the changes that take place in all the characters lives are inevitable and proper.

I feel this is a great series and I can highly recommend it! Ms. Waller gives you intriguing mystery/crime plots that kept me turning the pages and wonderfully realistic characters that feel as though I should be able to visit them in person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, compulsive, convoluted, very satisfying.

I love this series. Each new title has been a great read. This one seems to be closing some doors, maybe to end the series although a couple of things suggest that it could continue!
The key characters around Kat and Mouse work so well together. A tight knit group, supportive, loving, each with individual strengths and skills that complement and develop their successful partnerships.
The case in this title is complex, has both red herrings and cruel outcomes for certain characters with a delicious twist, ( or three) at the end.
Challenging relationships and questionable motives abound.
Intense, determined investigations bring a roller coaster hunt to a heart pounding close.
Definitely gripping!!
