About the Author

Anita was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and has lived all her life there. She has three adult children and seven grandchildren ranging in age from 9 months to 21 years. Anita and Dave have been married almost 49 years! She wrote Beautiful in 1985 and had it accepted for publication. They were the contract stage when the publishing house went into liquidation. Like many another book it ended up in the loft until two years ago when she resurrected it, retyped all 100,000 words (it was originally written on an Amstrad 8256 and all she had was a hard copy!) and sent it off to Bloodhound Books. She is now retired from my life of being a Patchwork Tutor and HGV driver's wife and concentrates on patchwork for the pleasure of it and writing. She started writing at around the age of 8 - she clearly remembers writing 'novels' at that age which were actually short stories split into chapters! Anita's genre is murder - but murder with a good reason behind it!

Anita Waller was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in 1946. She married Dave in 1967 and they have three adult children.

With many books to her name, she feels she has finally realised her dream. She writes mainly psychological thrillers, but was commissioned in 2018 to write a cosy mystery series, the Kat and Mouse trilogy. By November 2020 this will have grown to five books, plus a spin-off standalone novel called Epitaph, featuring Doris, one of the characters from the series. This series has now led on to a spin-off series, the Connection Trilogy, with books entitled Blood Red, Code Blue and Mortal Green. All these books, which will number twenty by the time Mortal Green is available, have been published by Bloodhound Books.

In 2021 Waller signed a five book deal with Boldwood Books, and currently has five published books with them: One Hot Summer, The Family at No.12, Fatal Secrets (the first in a new series set in Sheffield), The Couple Across the Street, and Fatal Lies, the second in the Forrester series. The Family at No.12 reached #2 in the Amazon Kindle charts.

She is now in her late-seventies with a new Boldwood contract, happily writing most days and would dearly love to plan a novel, but has accepted that isn’t the way of her mind. Every novel starts with a sentence and she waits to see where that sentence and her characters will take her. If writer's block intrudes, be sure there will be a death.

In her life away from the computer in the corner of her kitchen, she is a Sheffield Wednesday supporter with blue blood in her veins!

Her genre is murder - necessary murder.

While excited to read the next book, I'm sad that it will be the last. I've gotten to really like the characters in this trilogy, and would wish that there would be more to the series.
Like the first book, it's very well written, with none of the grammatical or typo errors so common with ebooks. This is a quality book, from writer to editor and every one else involved.
I'm going to be sure to find and read other books by this author, and I highly recommend that others do so, too.

While this is book 2 in a series, it stands up well on it's own. Having read this one, I'll go back and buy the others. The main characters have been thrown together by unforeseen circumstances and are becoming very good friends. They've faced tragedies already, and face some new ones in this book with charity, good attitudes, and a desire to find the truth. There are surprises along the way, particularly as the mystery draws to a close, but nothing unbelievable is going on - there are folks everywhere who might find themselves in the same situations. The setting is a trio of English villages in the Hope Valley, frequented by a continuous stream of tourists who thankfully have nothing to do with the mystery being solved.
This is an enjoyable story - highly recommended.

I read the first Kat & Mouse novel literally by accident. ( Just so you know how dense I am, I only caught the play on words after reading the second book.) The characters are so easy to identify with, so down-to-earth and real. The story unfolds so naturally. If you enjoy a story describing real people coping with extraordinary circumstances in England's northern rural villages - this series was written for you!

I'm about to order the third book. I certainly hope there will be more! Book 2 was fantastic. Twist you didn't see coming, one of those can't put it down books.

It seemed like the first 50-60 pages were too slow moving but wow after that this book takes off into murdering plots, cover up and twists. Once you pass the first part be ready to not want to sleep.

I read both books and they were interesting. However, the author should have never cast Kat as clergy. Kat was a kind person but her life style did not reflect the behavior of a true Christian. Also having Kat be a deacon in the church with her responsibilities was against what a real deacon does as defined in the Bible.

Engaging story, great characters well delineated, no loose ends. Definitely not a cliffhanger but I'm ready for the next one! The author tells us this is a trilogy, but I'm hoping for 'series'!

I am a bit late in reading and writing this review for Murder Unexpected since this title was released in February, but better late than never as the saying goes!

The story picks up with Kat’s now estranged husband Leon, on the run after the string of crimes committed in book one and with Kat discovering that she is pregnant with their child. If that is not enough, she is also juggling her work commitments as the church deacon and the new private investigation business that she shares with Mouse.

After Kat learns that Leon was in their home, she is now terrified that Leon now knows about the pregnancy and concerned about what his next move might be. The good friends that Mouse and Doris are move back in to protect Kat from Leon. Little do they know that Leon has taken up residence at the chemist he used to own, which happens to be across the road from Kat and Mouses company “Connection” where he is able to watch their every move!

On top of the issues with Leon, the girls have a new investigation to look into, when recently widowed Judy Carpenter, seeks their help in locating the birth mother of her deceased husband Thomas, which was his dying wish since being adopted at birth.

As the women become more involved in the case it appears that there is more to this story and it isn’t long before their investiagation takes a more sinister turn.

This book it full of twists and turns with an unexpected ending that still has my heart racing!

I absolutely adore this series. Even though there are only two books currently, I loved the characters from the get go so it was great to catch up again with Kat, Mouse and of course loveable Doris!

The chemistry between these three characters is lovely and through Anita’s writing, makes you feel that you could also be friends with them. I read this book in one sitting and was disappointed when I came to the end!

I love Anita’s writing style and after being introduced to her work last year through another one of her amazing books Malignant, (which you definitely need to read!), Anita has fast become one of my all time favourite authors, with this series being a favourite high up on my list!

It has been revealed that this series will now have a fourth book which I am so happy about. Seeing that this was only to be meant as a trilogy and with Anita agreeing to write the fourth book, I hope she can be convinced to write more… Pretty please!

I also have to say, that I am so excited for book three as I have been lucky enough that Anita will be using my name as a character in it, and I can’t wait to read what is going to be in store for me! (be gentle Anita haha!)

I rate this book a massive ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

All opinions are my own and are not biased in any way.
