A) The cross bar can hinge upward for no clear reason. All it does is make it droop away from the cross bar unless you put some kind of shim in.
B) The stand has no holes, it is held in place only by tension. It's mostly adequate, but heaven forfend you dare rest your elbow on it.
C) The clamps underneath are made of very cheap, overly flexible plastic which means you it's hard to put adequate tension on them to prevent the surface from gradually tilting. It doesn't help that the hole for the bolt is filled with cheap plastic seemingly without threading rather than at least hard plastic with threading (bizarrely the stops are made fo hard plastic with threading even though the pressure on them is unlikely to be half as much). If you tighten too hard the bolt can pop out.
D) The tray rotates around (so that you could, for example, have the tray at a right angle to the base). I suppose maybe that's useful to someone. However, it's not generally necessary and adds another point of instability.
E) Separate Mouse/Keyboard or Mouse/Laptop separation is a cool idea. However, it makes it difficult to fit the two pieces together well so it just looks off. I think it's also not terribly clever that the mouse part can tilt. As it has no bracket to prevent the mouse or other objects from sliding off, I fail to see how it helps and having two moving tables is actually a bit annoying and makes it harder to align them if you want one longer table. Better to just make the mouse part fixed.
In short, this product is too poorly constructed to be as modular as it is. You end up with a barely useable table that spins in too many directions. The makers would be well advised to cut down on the modularity and use the savings to add some proper bolt holes (or add to the price if that's necessary).
Had very specific requirements for an overbed table / bedside table / rolling desk for the final weeks of pregnancy. This met all of the requirements -
- Large surface area,
- Should have a base that slides under the bed to get the work surface close to my abdomen and avoid stretching arms.
- Should have a table top that swivels to easily get in and out of the "bed desk"
- Should have a tilting portion of the tabletop to angle laptop or book correctly.
- Tilting part of the table top should have guardrails to avoid laptop or book sliding down the tabletop.
- Should have a flat portion of the tabletop to put water, coffee, medicines.
- Should be light and relatively easy to assemble.
Perfect table during 8th month of pregnancy while waiting for delivery.
