Making Her Mine

Rate this book
Beck Callahan.

Star defensive Lineman.

Most popular boy on campus.

One of my best friends.

He’s always been off limits because I know a relationship with him could never work. Like, ever. He’s too perfect, too sweet, too good looking. Taking what we have a step further has the potential to ruin everything, and his friendship is too important to me.

So I keep it friendly, always with my feelings locked up tight. We talk. We date other people.

Until the beginning of senior year, one night at a party. When lines are blurred and eventually crossed. It was the best night of my life. A night I will never forget. Or regret. It’s all I can think about. He’s all I can think about.

But I’m also a little spooked. Beck says all the right things, and his sweet words make me feel…everything. He’s determined to make me his.

Should I let him? Or do I risk losing him as my boyfriend and my best friend?

It’s hard to put into words my feelings for Addie, when my emotions for this girl are so vast.

Beck and Addie were so dang cute. Talk about long term longing! These two have been crushing hard on each other since they were in middle school and FINALLY senior year is their year. Anyway. If you love high school romance with all the drama (even if it isn’t all Addie and Beck’s) and the sweet romance, then you’ll definitely want to pick up Making Her Mine.

Making Her Mine is just the CUTEST! What a sweet and nostalgic final stand-alone in my favorite Monica Murphy World. Charmingly swoony, effortlessly sincere, and deliciously sexy, Beck and Addie’s story captured my whole heart. What a heartwarming story Monica saved for our baby Callahan. 💕

If you’re a fan of the Callahan series, then you have long since met Beck Callahan. The baby brother who’s now a very popular high schooler, and he’s long been pining for his sweet friend Addison, only he’s long since been in the friendzone. And both have been dating other people. Fans Monica Murphy’s have been treated to little glimmers of his budding friendship to Addie, his playmate from his younger years, in the novella When Bae. It’s sweet, it’s charming and innocent, and it’s super nostalgic, and Monica espouses all of those same vibes in the deeply lovable Making Her Mine- it’s so cute and sweet, I probably have a cavity.

After the last few books featuring the Callahan crew being pretty fraught with soapy teenage drama and a bit more angst, it was a nice reprieve for Beck’s story to be so blissfully straight forward. This is just a story about a boy falling in love for the first time with a girl that secretly loves him too, and both of them stumbling through all the insecurities, timing, and fear obstacles that have kept them in the pining-for-your-friend zone for so long. It’s quite nostalgic- reminiscent of those first love butterflies, the exhilaration and awkwardness that comes from exposing your heart to another when you’re young and innocent- when everything feels bigger, riskier, and more dramatic. But both of these characters are so stable and mature- a brilliant nod to all of the many lessons I’m sure they’ve both learned from watching their siblings make so many mistakes. Yet despite their emotional steadiness, their story felt the most inherently high school of the batch. Football games, parties, petty fights with friends, gossip, and getting creative about where to hook up- it’s all so authentic and had me flashing back to my own teenage challenges and triumphs.

Beck is just the dreamiest. He’s kind, sweet, thoughtful, still sexy but also heart-poundingly endearing. Monica gives us the characteristic high school popular jock and makes him the biggest sweetheart. From the very first page, I just adored this squishy little teddy bear. And Addiie is hella relatable. She’s focused, witty, generous and caring- even though she has a lot of external drama weighing on her. Their chemistry is pure saccharin and sizzle- all the emotionally complex friends- to-lovers will they finally go for it vibes paired with a magnet charisma between them. They just fit so sweetly, and I loved watching them stand up for and fight for each other. The burn is a bit slower than I prefer (the slowest of the series I would say), but I loved waiting for them. Worth every minute. And the angst is REALLY low- we mostly have some external drama impacting them, and it made for a refreshing, feel good reprieve. So much young love magic.

We have some MVP appearances from some of our favorite characters and a delightful preview of the finale of this series. We even have some secondary characters introduced that I may start begging for books for- Addie and Beck have some interesting friends. But the Callahans as always are the stars- I simply can not get enough of this series, and I’m pretty sure it will always be my favorite from Monica Murphy. She’s truly perfected the sexy, young adult trope, and I want to hang out in this world forever.

RECEIVED AN ARC IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Nothing wrong with the book itself, but more like my taste in books is more "darker" and less typical sweet high school YA romance.

The book was centered in Beck Callaghan and Addie, who have been best friend since they were almost toddlers. They have been secretly in love with each other for quite some long time but never acted upon those feelings... until this year, their last year, Senior Year of High School.
Dual perspective.

The PLOT is slow paced (much for my dismay), the storyline takes place in one timeline. Not many dramas or mysteries surrounding the main couple, there are some familial scenes with the Callaghan troupe and some drama with other third parties, like Addie's or Beck' friends.

The ROMANCE was light hearted and sweet, a little too child/teenage like for my taste but was good, no OW DRAMA or OM DRAMA, this book is SAFE.

The CHARACTERS are okay, nothing extraordinary to be honest, but not the worst either. I guess the book itself can't let any space to character development, as the set up is in a High School full of hormonated teenagers.

BECK , H, he's smart, sweet, polite and friendly. He takes care of his important ones and is a family person. He's the baby of the family; the popular guy in school too, the All American football player, the social butterfly.

ADDIE h, she's been friends with Beck for a long time, but has been forging feelings for him too for some time too... She's in the cheer team, is kind of popular too (if you asked me), she had a bad past relationship with Jonah, her ex-boyfriend whom she doesn't want to know anything a now, she's all in for Beck since chapter 1, she's a bit shallow (but well I guess with her being 17 it's a given? 🤔) Not my favourite character of Monica but I have read worse🤷🏻‍♀️. She's made her mission to conquest Beck and well, we see the development through her eyes.

It was an okay read, I didn’t love it but I also didn't hated it. It wasn't too engaging as there wasn't too much going on and the plot was too slow for me.

If you like light sweet high school romances then I highly recommend this book to you!!

P.S. I have been too busy these last few months working and then I got sick with our dear coronavirus 🥳🙌, so I haven't been active at all, sorry about that. I will try to review whenever I can. Hope everyone is safe and taking care of themselves 🥰💕

Edited manuscript.

The last Callahan sibling! Beck has a little bit of all of them in his personality, and I loved reading about how Beck and Addie grew up together and then move to them finding their way to each other romantically in high school.

So sad that the final Callahan sibling story is over. I wanted to read a story about Beck from the very start of this series. His book did not disappoint. Beck Callahan, star senior football player, has everything he could possibly want, except for the girl who has had his heart since grade school. Addison Douglas thought she was destined to be Beck’s friend forever. He can get any girl he wants, so she is fine in the friend zone. Of course she thinks he is smoking hot and cannot help the feelings that she has for him, but it never seems to be their time. Senior year, everything aligns, they begin to spend more time together, and see if they can make a go at a real relationship. Fate has put things in their way that they must overcome, but in the end, it is worth it. My sweet Beck was everything I wanted him to be and so much more. Really looking forward to the final book, A Callahan Wedding.

Cannot believe one of these books actually deserves 2 stars. Okay so characters wise, none of them were super annoying or said anything bad.

Beck is actually the only male character in this universe I like/ tolerate…
Yes he indeed still did one thing i did not like but it was not an important thing.

Now the plot however. A mess. We start of very VERY fast paced and just have a lot of friendship drama as well as miscommunication. That would have been fine if it was not dragged out for over 80% of the book.
I did not really get the point of it, especially the part where they made another Cami just for shits and giggles.
The last 20% were however awful. We got an introduction to a plot twist.
DUN DUN DUN the dare but guess what? nothing came from it so it was just a space filled that was unnecessary.

Overall this book was just boring. I know I do not like too much drama in books but this just felt like there was not a real idea behind the plot.

The only good thing was the subplot of the mom's worry about her daughter

“I knew there was a reason I was so stuck on her. Even when we were just friends. Even when I was with someone else.
This girl is just it for me.
The only one.”

Making Her Mine is the sixth book in The Callahans series and follows Beck, the youngest of the family, and Addie. Beck and Addie have been friends since childhood and have always had a big crush on each other. While Addie thought she was always out of his league and was afraid of ruining their friendship, Beck thought she wasn't interested in him as anything more than a friend. Now a senior and both single, Beck realizes he needs to show Addie how he truly feels before it's too late.

I've been anticipating Beck and Addie's story since reading the When Bae... installments because these two were so cute, and I'm a sucker for a good friends to lovers romance. Making Her Mine was such a sweet and riveting read, and I loved seeing the development between Beck and Addie. They always had a strong friendship, but it was impossible not to see how much they cared about and supported each other. The chemistry and love between them were palpable, and all the moments they shared were seriously so cute!! Once they decided they wanted to be together, no one could stop them, and they were determined to make things work while avoiding some of the drama that comes with high school. As individuals, Beck and Addie were very kind, caring, and loyal characters, and I instantly got attached to them. Beck was always so kind to Addie, which was nice to read. What I also enjoyed was seeing how much Addie gained in confidence throughout the story.

The Callahans are some of my comfort characters, so it was amazing to have more content from them and the previous couples through Beck and Addie's story. Saying goodbye to all of them is going to be hard, but I'm glad there's still one more book to come, especially now that we know which couple is getting married!

Overall, Making Her Mine was a very sweet and entertaining book. Beck and Addie were wonderful characters, and I loved seeing them reveal their feelings for each other after so many years. I'm already excited for the next and final installment because I've been wanting content from this couple for a long time!

Another amazing YA sports romance from M Murphy!! I could live in this Callahan world - the characters, the realness, and oh the high school drama!!!! But what I love most is this cast of Callahans and those that they love.

Beck is SO SWOONY!!! Sigh...his selfless and loyal demeanor is what every high school girl dreams about, and Addie is so lucky to get every drop of it. These two together are everything that first love should be....innocent, nervous, dramatic at times, and full of lust and love for each other. M Murphy does a fantastic job of portraying young love just as it should be.... Well done once again!!!

4 Star review of Making Her Mine (The Callahans #6) by Monica Murphy
This is Beck and Addie’s friends to lovers story and one that was a good addition to the series. I’m not a huge fan of new adult stories but Ms. Murphy has a way of telling a story that has you becoming invested even when it is a genre you don’t normally read.
All it takes is one night for lines to be crossed and relationships changed forever. Can Addie risk the the loss of her friendship with Beck if they continue with their blossoming romance? Or would it be better for both of them if they push aside the romance and concentrate on their friendship instead?
I liked his relationship with his family and as the youngest Callahan you would expect that Beck would be the apple of their eye. Addie’s parents were not as supportive and I cheered when Addie decided enough was enough an stood up for herself.
This was a sweet, romantic story that ticked a number of boxes for me .

This is book 6 in this series and the last Callahan to tell his story.
Beck Callahan football star who has crush harboured a crush for the girl he grew up with Addison Douglas.A crush that had spanned years for both of them and quickly is revealed as love.
This is a fabulous read because no-one writes Y/A and High school drama quite like Monica Murphy.
The Bickering,The Fights,The rampant hormones,The forged friendships and the broken ones too.Monica writes it so perfectly and Beck and Addies young love is peppered with little dramas and teenage doubts about everything.
Beck is so swoony, sexy and he has an innocence about him too and his adoration he had for Addie is so sweet.
This is such a Charming book and it enchanted me all the way through,I really enjoyed it and it was perfect for Beck and Addie.
Loved it.

Monica Murphy saved the cutest and most adorable love story for the youngest Callahan. Beck and Addie were the sweetest. I was literally ooh-ing and awww-ing all the time. Beck is our loving and charming guy that comes with being a Callahan and Addie matched him every way. A sweet and swoony high school sports romance that was perfect for them.
.
Beck Callahan and Addison Douglas forever had a crush on each other. But somehow the stars never aligned. Now they are in senior year and by some miracle, both are single. Beck feels this is finally the time to make a move and Addie is hopeful. But high school has dramas and twists. And they have to go through that all.
.
This story was a very simple love story. Not too much angst or too much drama. Like a lazy summer day, you just enjoy the glow of young love. And the vibe suited them. Beck is a popular guy and all around perfect but he is not c0cky or a##h0le. He is kind and charming. Respectful of girl, loyal to friends and a big heart with gorgeous lips. Every girl falls for him but who he really wants is Addie. She is a cute girl too. A bit naughty, a bit sassy, a bit innocent and just so adorable. I know I am repeating adorable and sweet and cute but those are the words you need to describe the story! It was slowly building with lots of foreplay and going hesitantly from friendship to love. Their connection is so beautiful and whenever they are together, you can feel the sparks! They had usual high school problems. Troubled friends. Gossips trying to ruin their friendship. The pressure of studies and sports. But it was decided from the first page that they will be together and they did end up together. If you are looking for a feel good new adult romance, Making Her Mine by Monica Murphy is it for you.

Beck and Addie are just the absolute sweetest. This was a great capstone for the Callahan's series. The most heartwarming book was saved for last. Addie and Beck have known each other for seemingly forever, and been only friends. Neither of them thinking that the other liked them in that way, sitting back watching them date other people, wishing it were them.
Beck is the star football player, the one that every girl wants to get with and every guy is jealous of. He has a great family (duh) and he's just an all around good guy.
Addison is Jocelyns's sister so she has been around the group for years. Her parents just don't want her to follow in her sister's footsteps so they are a little over protective. They know that Beck is a good guy, but see things changing.
The two of them dance around each other, but as soon as Beck realizes that he needs to make a move before someone else does, there is no stopping him.
I really enjoyed these two, it had very little conflict so if you are in the mood for something with low angst and just a feel good romance, you should pick this one up.

Beck Callahan is the baby of his big family and it’s his senior year of high school. This is the last hurrah… his final season playing high school football. And he really wants the girl who has always kept him in the friend zone.

Addie has always been close friends with Beck, though she has always wanted more. But he is unattainable. Incredibly popular, star football player, with a girlfriend…

When the vibe between them shifts one night and something more seems like a possibility, will they risk everything? Will they put their friendship in the line to try something more?

This book was just so easy to eat right up. Monica Murphy knows how to write absolutely sweet and endearing boys that make you swoon. Beck was just freaking adorable.

In Making Her Mine you get a bunch of everything! You have Beck and Addie and their budding romance, you have friend groups that are shifting and evolving, family dynamics and all that wonderful drama.

This is my first book of the series, but that’s okay, because we learn who’s who, what’s what, and don’t feel lost at all. I DID, however, feel high school rushing back to my mind with this read. Beck and Addie were realistic, fumbling teenagers trying to figure out how to navigate from kid to adult, and it showed in a fabulous way. A bit of drama with mean boys and girls, hormones, and spite all made an appearance here, and they served to make this feel like what so many of us either experienced or saw playing out with friends or classmates during our time as teenagers. Heck, we even had the stupid egos come out to play a few times, but not in a llama drama 90210 sense; it was all just as raw and emotional as you’d expect in reality.

Thanks to this author’s ability to recreate a high school setting that isn’t so OTT or dramatic that it’s laughably fake, I found myself loving this book. Beck was absolutely NOT the typical literary “active social life” (if you get my meaning) jock, while Addie could’ve easily been any girl you knew or were in school. Both of these aspects made Beck and Addie all the more enjoyable and made me wish to catch up with them in a few years. So if you’re in the market for something impossible to put down that also makes you remember the guys or girls from your senior year, this one is a must read for 2022!

Ahhhh, what can I say about Beck and Adds? After reading The Senior (The College Years), I honestly thought that was the last I would hear from the Callahans, and all of their friends, so I was ecstatic when the author announced that she was writing Beck's story, and it did not disappoint!

I absolutely love this world! I feel kind of weird saying this, because I think of Beck as a 14 year old kid (even though he's grown now, LOL), but I fell in love with him! He was just the sweetest, and he and Addie were so perfect together! Now I'll look forward to the next book, A Callahan Wedding, but in the meantime, The Callahans series and The College Years are all highly recommended with a thousand stars!!!

I received a advance copy of this in exchange for a honest review. I was super excited because I have been waiting for Beck & Addie’s story. If you read the Callaghan books then you know Addie is Josilne’s little sister. Beck is different than the other Callaghan siblings. He’s the most sensitive one and that didn’t always benefit him I don’t think. I feel like his friends thought it made him look weak. Beck was a complete gentleman and I loved that about him. Addie was very sweet as well. This was a very slow read. It took them for what seemed like forever to really admit their feelings for each other.

Monica Murphy announced agile back that there will be a Callaghan wedding that the fans of this series(including myself) are super excited for. If you want to know which Callaghan is getting married read this book. We find out In the epilogue. I’m even more excited about this wedding!

On another note, I really enjoyed the new characters so I wouldn’t complain if they had their own story in the future😉

All in all, this was a great read. I couldn’t put it down. I finished it within 24 hours. Happy Reading!

I think it's time for me to call a halt to one-clicks on the teenage first love beat. I’ve reached that time in my life that I’m not feeling the love. I’m more appalled than satisfied with these tropes. I’ve become too critical of the behavior, lack of story development and overloads of repetitious and explicitly detailed $exual encounters.

This is the sixth book in the Callahan series, but it can be read as a standalone without any problems. I liked most of the characters in this series of books -- with the exception of a few. Numero uno being Emma, a total mess from the starting line and way over-the-top behavior. Addie needed to make better choices in the "best friend" category.

I liked the pairing of Beck Callahan and Addison Douglas, the younger sister of Joselyn from Book Five – Fighting for You. High fives to Beck for stepping up sooner than later and admitting to his big mistake -- saving us all from having to go through that trauma-drama!

Leaving it to the young’uns, donning my cap and gown to graduate to more adult age-appropriate books for this gray-headed grandma. ‘Nuff said!

OH sweet sweet Beck. The youngest of the Callahans gets his own story and he is the epitome of a do good, All-American sort of boy. I have to admit, I prefer a little more hate to love or enemies to lovers, but this was a sweet friends to lovers all set within the first little bit of the senior year of high school.

Addie and Beck have been friends for basically forever. And they both have been attracted to one another, but neither did anything about it until their senior year. Once they decide they like each other, they are all in, they just don't know how to tell each other that.

Making Her Mine was a total high school romance with minimal angst and minimal drama. The drama was never really about these two as a couple, just outside sources. I do have to say that I missed some of the drama, but with who Addie and Beck were, it wouldn't have fit their characters. These two have had older siblings that have been through it all and they may have learned from them. Beck is the baby in his family and he has a great relationship with his parents. I really liked how open he could be with them. Addie, on the other hand, had a really hard relationship with her parents. She's given them everything they wanted with little drama because of how hard of a time her sister had. I enjoyed seeing her come out of her shell and standing up for herself.

While this is the final Callahan sibling's story, I think you could definitely read this as a standalone and be fine. But if you want to know all about the siblings, don't hesitate in checking those books out too. Especially because in this book, we find out there is going to be a wedding between a couple and that is a future book coming this year.

Overall, this was a sweet, low steam, high school romance about first love and longing for that first love. I wanted more angst and perhaps a timeline covered more of the school year, but enjoyed the true and strong feelings these two had for one another. Can't wait for wedding shenanigans to come!

“Friend. I hate that word. Especially when it comes to me and Beck.”

Making Her Mine was sweet, swoony perfection. Beck and Addie have been friends since childhood and both have been crushing on the other. During their senior year of high school, they finally decide to act on their attraction, but will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way?

“From the moment I met her, I felt connected to her, even when we were little and playing together at recess.”

Beck was such a change from rest of the heroes in this series. He was a sweetheart and such a gentleman. He respected Addie so much and would do anything to protect her.

“No one makes me feel as good as you do, Beck.”

Addie was so sweet and caring. She would do anything for her friends and her heart was huge. She had selfless and generous nature and was a perfect match for Beck.

“Sometimes it feels like you know me better than anyone.”

I loved these two together. They were such great friends and their chemistry was electric. They did need to learn how to communicate their feelings and not to assume. Once they finally began to communicate, their relationship truly began to change and grow and their feelings deepened. They were perfection!

I devoured Making Her Mine in one sitting and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. The high school angst was so true to life and so real. Beck and Addie were worth the wait.

Awwww there we've got Beck Callahan.
The youngest of the Callahans!
I was curious about his story the first time I started this series.
Honestly I'd love to be part of this wonderful family. It's always pure joy to be back in their lives. ♡
Making Her Mine by Monica Murphy is - like I said before - the love story of Beck and Addison (Addie).
Both are friends since like forever... but Beck really likes Addie and Addie really likes him too.
Will they stay friends or could there be more?

OH MY GOODNESS!
This book was CUTENESS OVERLOAD!
I DEVOURED their story because I just loved them right from the start!
And meeting Beck's and Addie's friends was enjoyable too!
Now that I finished Making Her Mine I'd love to go back and read it again! Or start the whole series again?! Maybe?!
Well I could talk about Beck and Addie all the time! They're soooooooo cuuuuuute!
Awwwwww! I got goose bumps a few times and they've just this special kind of connection! PERFECT!
Monica Murphy did it again!
I absolutely can't wait for more to come! ❤

Wow. The Callahans will always have a special place in my heart, I’ve loved them from the start with Drew and Fable and then with all their kids and now last, Beck. Beck is in his senior year, star football player and figuring out what he wants and that might just be Addie. Addie was his best friend as kids, but grew apart, talk randomly, but never been as close as they use to. Addie is trying to love her own life and always had a crush on Beck. These two have shared moments, but timing never has been on their side. Making Her Mine is the epic friends to lovers, secret crush, afraid to just speak their feelings and clear the air. That is until fate steps in and Addie and Beck are possibly on the same page, but will assumptions, missed chances, and everyone around them keep these two from exploring their feelings or will Beck and Addie finally figure it out? Beck and Addie give you all the feels and and will as always, leave you wanting more of the Callahans. Absolutely loved this book and loved these two!

Making Her Mine was just what I needed. Beck was everything and his story is one that you should absolutely not miss! Addison and Beck have an easy relationship but both yearn for more. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes because I like the foundation the relationship is based on. No one can write YA romance like Monica Murphy. It’s amazing how authentic she makes the characters. There’s also the fact that she can make me fall in love with entire fictional families! There’s absolutely no doubt that the two were meant to be.

Excuse me, but all these highschool dark romances made me forget that guys like Beck Callahan exist.

How in the world was Beck the popular boy and not an a-hole? It's such a paradox lol that it still ain't sinking in. Instead of being a A1 level jerk, Beck was so darn sweet, gentleman-ly and a mama's boy who was taught well to respect women.

I couldn't care less for all the football/ volleyball parts since I'm the kind of person who skips sports to mope around at the library but the remaining 90% of the book was just swoooon!

Football is Beck's life. His father is a Super Bowl winning quarterback and his brother and both brothers-in-law play professionally. He is a linebacker for his high school team and hopes that his senior year is a winning one.

Beck and Addie have flirted back and forth since middle school, but neither have ever made it known that they were interested in more than being friends, but Beck is determined to make that change. His current girlfriend, Sasha, is a year older and leaving to attend college. Not only is being a long-distance romance something he's not interested in, but they haven't been getting along for a while. Now is his chance to take a chance.

I loved this story. It is very well written and there is a full cast of characters that are fully developed and relatable. This is a slow burn romance which feels appropriate as high school seniors, but turns smoky hot later in the book. There is one character that leaves a bit of concern, but luckily he finally gets the point before things become dangerous.

I highly recommend this book!

Making Her Mine is the youngest Callahan's story and it's a sweet friends-to-lovers YA romance. Beck Callahan has been friends with Addie for years, from playdates as youngsters to now seniors in high school. Addie has always had a crush on Beck. He's the good looking, popular football star. He's out of her league, and she'd never want to risk their friendship to pursue anything more anyway. Lines become blurred though, and Addie starts to think that maybe Beck does like her as more than a friend after all. Is she willing to risk losing her friend for the possibility of making him her boyfriend?

This is a cute story of first love, and I adored both Beck and Addie. Their relationship has a little bit of angst as most high school relationships do, and we do get some extra drama due to their friends. Although you can read this as a standalone, we do get to visit with some of the older Callahans and their significant others in this book, and if you've read any of their stories, you'll enjoy catching up with them.

If you're a fan of YA sports romance, then you'll definitely want to add this one to your TBR.
