Excellent, overpriced, and probably worth it (for the true believers)
When I saw MagSafe get rebranded as this iPhone feature (instead of Mac feature that was killed in 2016 and could be returning soon on the 16” M1X MacBook), I figured a product like the MagSafe Battery pack would eventually get released. I think a lot of people were surprised to see this $100 accessory be priced that high, considering it can’t even recharge your iPhone 12 from zero to one hundred percent. That is definitely a valid criticism considering you can get an excellent alternative from one name brand in particular, for only half the price.I think it’s important to remember all of the features this product has over the competitors, which is always what you get from first party Apple products. The coolest thing this can do, in my opinion, is that it can be on the back of an iPhone 12 series phone, and can be recharged wirelessly from the iPhone itself. Which means that iPhones can reverse wirelessly charge other Qi compatible devices, but Apple has never turned the feature on in the operating system. You can also charge your iPhone 12 while the battery pack is recharging with a lightning cable, it basically turns into a MagSafe charging puck when being used that way, delivering the full, 15 watts of wireless power to your iPhone (12 series only, of course). It will also charge any Qi capable devices like Airpods 2 or AirPods Pro.While this is attached to your phone and neither the iPhone or battery pack are charging with a cable, this will deliver only 5 watts of power to your iPhone. This is disappointing and kind of defeats the purpose of making a MagSafe wireless charger in the first place. The whole point of MagSafe is convenient, faster wireless charging. But I think it’s important to remember the benefits of this product too.You get a nice animation when you attach it to your iPhone, and the battery pack will show up in the battery widget, next to your Apple Watch and Airpods. It really is awesome that you never have to turn it on and that it communicates with iOS using the NFC part of MagSafe. Another plus is the safety of this device, it is designed to protect your internal iPhone battery and not put performance over longevity. By default it will only charge your iPhone to 90%, you can get around this by long pressing on the battery saver button within quick settings and an option appears that only shows up while the battery is connected. It will stay enabled and can’t be turned off but it will reset back to only charging to 90% the next time you use it. Most of the damage done to our iPhone batteries occurs between the 90% and 100% charge level. Apple is protecting our devices by making this the default behavior of this battery pack. While there are alternatives out there, even a few really good ones, none are safer or nicer to use than this one from Apple. It’s incredibly thin and feels super soft to the touch. I know it’s expensive, but I honestly feel like it’s worth the price, and I’m loving mine. Apple focuses more on overall experience and sometimes price is an afterthought. I think they wanted to make a really great product and weren’t concerned about people who might be sensitive to the price. If you love Apple and buy everything they make, go ahead and pull the trigger because you know you want it. If you need speed(and/or are on a budget), go with a USB C to Lightning, 20 watt wired charger. The 15 watts from the MagSafe cable (when connected to a 20 watt wall charger) will also be faster than this battery pack.Pros➕Strong Magnets 🧲Automatically turns on/off 🤓Silky smooth finish 🧈Tight integration with iOS 📱🤝Protects battery health 🔋Thinner than similar products ➡️🍎⬅️Lightweight 🪶Doubles as a wired MagSafe charger (if you own a USB C to Lightning cable + 20 watt charger)🔌Can be recharged wirelessly, but only from an iPhone 12/13 series model (while the iPhone is connected to a wired charger with 20+ watts of power)⚡️Cons➖Cannot fully recharge a 12/12 pro (55%-60% recharge capacity) 🙁Only charges at 5 watts or less, most of the time🐢Magsafe Battery Pack itself, cannot be charged wirelessly EXCEPT from the iPhone 12/13 series models, so if you place this on a Qi charger or the $40 MagSafe cable, it will NOT charge 🚫⚡️Expensive 💵

The Apple MagSafe Battery Pack is an excellent example to Apple's commitment to delivering sleek, user-friendly products. Its portability is unmatched, making it a top choice for daily use. One of the standout features is its effortless charging mechanism. Simply attach it to your phone, and it takes care of the rest. The intelligent design ensures that the phone stops charging if it detects excessive heat, ensuring the safety of your device.

This battery pack isn't just a battery pack; it's also a MagSafe charger. When plugged into a power source, it offers passthrough charging, ensuring your phone gets also juiced up along with your battery back. This dual functionality adds to its value proposition in my opinion, as a MagSafe charger is almost 40 bucks.

Apple's hallmark has always been its seamless integration and simplicity. True to this, the battery pack's charge level can be monitored directly from the iPhone's battery widget. Additionally, it supports battery optimization features, not just for the iPhone but also for itself when plugged in for extended durations.

However, it's not without its shortcomings. The battery capacity is on the lower side. Using it with an iPhone 13 Pro Max, I found that it provides only about a 40% additional charge. While this might be a trade-off for its compact design, it's something potential buyers should be aware of. Some competitors offer larger capacities, but they might not be as portable or as integrated in the Apple ecosystem.

Lastly, the price point is on the higher side, which is expected from Apple products. While it might be a deterrent for some, those familiar with Apple know that with the brand, you're not just paying for a product but also for impeccable design, flawless implementation, and top quality.

For a few weeks now I have been trying several battery packs with no luck on finding the perfect one- they have all been pretty disappointing- don't charge enough, take soooooo long to charge just a little, and they get soooooo hot.
I bought the apple one because I've heard great things about it but I've also heard that they don't charge your phone from 0-100 not even once.
Well, I have to say I'm very pleased with the results, of course what I get out of this battery pack might not be what you get out of it but figured I'd share my experience using this in case others are curious.

*Charging wise: I just tested it out today, I attached it to the back of my phone today at 8am, my phone was on 90%.
I know, you're probably thinking that I don't need to charge my phone if it's at 90%. I saw a YouTube video about the apple battery pack and how ppl think this is suppose to charge your phone from 0-100 and ppl are getting upset cause it's not doing that, when in reality this battery pack is meant to keep your phone charged, it's not meant to charge your phone from 0-100 (it won't do that).
So like I said, I attached the battery pack to the back of my phone at 8am my phone was at 90% and I put the battery pack setting on low power mode and to keep my phone at 90% (to not charge more than that).
I took it off at 2:30pm (that's when the battery pack ran out of charge) but my phone is still on 90% and the battery pack/my phone is not hot! I mean from like 1-10, lowest level of heat being 1 and the most being a 10, maybe it go to like a 2, honestly it didn't even get warm. There was a very very very slight change in temperature but not even close to enough for me to notice.
From 8am-2:30pm the battery pack helped my phone remain at 90% and that is with me activity using my phone during that 6.5 hr time frame. I was on my phone- on my socials, watching videos on youtube and tik tok the whole time (with some small 5 mins breaks in between when I got busy doing other stuff)

*Price wise: I do think it should be less, but it's apple and I wanted apple, I think we all can somewhat agree this is overpriced.

*Asthetic/looks wise: love it. It's very thin and pleasing to the eye. It's not bulky or ugly looking.

Overall happy with this battery pack and I recommend it for those looking for something to keep their phone charged for a certain time frame.
However, if you are looking for something to charge your phone from 0-100 this battery pack will disappoint you because from what I've noticed, this battery pack is not meant to charge your phone from 0-100 or maybe not even from 30-100. Just my opinion :)

This battery pack is excellent for getting you an extra boost or two to get you through the day. It is NOT what I would use if I needed a lot of power (i.e. full day weekends at a festival recording videos, traveling, etc.). I would suggest a larger, bigger capacity power bank for those situations.

Yes, Apple charges way too much for this, but are we surprised? I personally was okay with paying the extra $$ to have the stronger magnetic connection via MagSafe, as well as easily being able to see when this pack needs to be charged with the battery percentage widget on my home screen. Apple is excellent at letting things work together in their ecosystem, and I’m honestly so far in at this point that I may as well keep going. But that’s beside the point.

This pack gets the job done without being too bulky. It charges very quickly, and you can easily hold your phone without disrupting the magnetic connection. Other reviewers are right in that this pack is really only good for one full charge (or up to 90%, if you don’t have the low power setting enabled). For me, I can get through the day easily with this. I use my phone a lot for work and find that a quick boost with this pack can get me through all the way until I charge my phone before bed. I highly recommend this pack if you want to have a fast charge on the go without it taking up too much space like some other large power banks. Just keep in mind its smaller capacity — I personally opt for a larger power bank when traveling, but this is great for day to day charges. :)

It’s a nice piece of kit for MagSafe. There is an apple tax on this but it delivers on quality and compatibility. It’s probably best used with the Mini iPhones as it just fits perfectly in all orientations. Yes upside down is perfectly lined up as well. At 90 degrees it’s in landscape mode and the part sticking out acts like a mini handle for taking photos or selfie! If you like fidgeting with stuff, this thing is nice and functional.

My application is as a dock. It’s gonna be mounted to my car and I will mostly drop my phone onto it. When I need extended play, then take it with you.

Watch some of the tear downs and you will find this device has a lot of smart electronics working to not damage your iPhone battery.

It weighs quite a bit and wouldn’t want it to weight anymore. Treat it as 4 hours of extra screen time and you will be happy.

I've had this since August 9th and use it a few times a week

This will not give you another full charge on your device, it depends on which iPhone 12 (now 13) you have. My 12 Pro max it will get me about 50-60% of an extra charge.

Thermal management is aggressive, if you're doing anything heavy on the device and it's moderately warm out, the battery will not charge your phone. I checked with Apple support and this was expected.

It's a little annoying the battery will stop charging your phone at 90%, you can disable the limit and go to 100% but I would not suggest doing this. I let it charge my phone from 75% to 100% and the battery pack went from 100% down to 30% which wasn't worth it.

    ----------

My take away from owning the battery, it's nice to have and grab when you know you need more life or don't feel like getting plugged into an outlet when moving around your home/space, but don't expect it to be a game-changer doubling your battery life. I treat it more like an accessory I grab on the go like my headphones for my device.

I was excited to finally have a battery pack that was more portable and would require my phone to be hooked up to cords while I also use it and want to charge it.

That said, this battery pack was garbage. Even while I wasn’t using my phone and put it in airplane mode while charging, the battery pack took over an hour just to go up less than 10%.

Really unimpressed and even less impressed with the customer service I received when returning it as a result.
