The SM7B does NOT require phantom power and is not affected if phantom power is present on its mixer input. Note that some third-party external pre-amps commonly used with the SM7B DO require phantom power to operate, however. At least 60dB of gain is recommended to get that iconic warm and balanced tone most commonly associated with the SM7B.

After purchasing a used Triton FetHead from Amazon Warehouse and getting a broken unit, I decided to look around for alternatives. Luckily my timing on getting this set up was around Black Friday so seeing this pretty unknown item on sale for $24.99 vs FetHead's at $79.99 I had to give it a shot. There are just a few YouTube videos about this but they all praised it from the ones I saw. From doing sound tests with all different levels of gain and compression this thing is rock solid and adds a great amount of nice, clean gain for the SM7B to work with while going into a GoXLR Mini. I'm always interesting in trying a product that seems like an underdog and this really feels like one, this thing can compete with the FetHead any time. I went ahead and purchased a second one to just have in case because at the price I got it at it just made sense haha and even without the discount getting one of these for $50 and avoiding the really weird third party sellers selling FetHeads for half price (Chinese knock off's or referbs maybe?) this is a no brainer.

Omg, just buy this thing! I sing with a big band, and I've been battling with equipment trying to get a decent sound that will boost my vocals at least even to a 15-piece orchestra. I plug this into my little four-channel mixer, and then went into my QSC 8, well I had been using the QSC before, it just couldn't compete with all the brass orchestration. Once I added this to my microphone, what an immediate and noticeable difference! Not only was I competing with, but I was singing above the entire band, without any effort, and with phenomenally clear and high fidelity sound! I was absolutely thrilled! And everybody in the rhythm section who was next to me, asked me what I had done different this week at rehearsal!! I'm going to buy another one just to have on hand for additional vocalists in my other bands. You need this item! Do not hesitate to buy it!

(I bought both the MB-1 and the MB-Stealth. The core of this review will be the same for both)

I was looking to make an SM-48S hotter. I tripped over this, and - went for it.

This isn't reaaallly meant for stage use, check the MB-1 (same company) if that's your goal.

This plugs in inline straight into the bottom of the mic (or at the mixer end!) if you'd like. This *DOES* use phantom power, so if your mixer/preamp doesn't provide that, you'll have an issue. When unpowered, it's a straight pass-through.

*for me* this is prefect. It's on a mic used for handpan and gong. I don't need shimmering high ends, I *do* need the bottom end not rolled off.

Very nice implementation, truly plug & play. I figure that the electronics are the same in the MB-1, I didn't open them to check, as I'm returning the MB-1. I only need one, and I'll be keeping this one.

Highly recommended. It does what it sets out to, and at this price point, you probably need more than one, just to have around. :)

I bought a dynamic microphone that I was hoping to use on the same speaker that I use for an electronic drum kit. Problem was it was so much quieter I was worried with kids around the drums could damage the speaker. Then I looked into preamps and found this one, hoping to level the sound a lot closer to the drum output. This really did the job well! I did buy a separate 48V phantom power adapter to give this power, no sound comes out without the preamp being powered, and after hooking things up the mic sounds great and is on par with the drum volume, making me feel a lot safer letting the kids use them!

I bought 2 of these abut a year ago. They worked great at first but all of a sudden I noticed the preamp on my Focusrite interface was not working. I chucked it up to the interface being old since I'd had it about 5 years. So I bought a new Mackie interface. Everything was working quite well and I don't use it a lot. But noticed that one day I had to turn up the gain in OBS, which was unusual because with the in line booster I had plenty of volume and never had to add any before. So I didn't think much about it but then about 2 weeks later, tried to use the setup and nothing. Mic preamp is blown on my new Mackie interface. I tried different cable, mics, and both of the Coda Stealth units and got nothing. So be very weary of this product.

I picked up a mic that required 48V and had researched several amp options (5 in total). Two were top contenders and ultimately I went with the Coda Stealth. I couldn't be happier. Looks great on my mic and low profile arm. Quality is insane with no introduced noise and an amazing increase in decibels, so much so, I lowered my mic volume down to 38% and it sounds amazing for zoom calls, OBS captures and for Discord. Love it and have recommended it to others already and recommending it to you here now (via this review).

I have struggled a lot when recording my guitar amp in my home studio (With an SM57 mic), with low-medium volume from the amp, my audio interface was catching almost nothing, on the other hand If I increased the gain on it, I was raising also ground noise and unwanted artifacts, the same thing happened when playing live on small venues, and increasing volume from my amp was just uncontrollable. I saw this and decided to give it a try... Wonderful! Now I can record with low volume in my house, play live with low volume in my amp as well, and the signal goes boosted into my PA/MIXER with 48v. Clean sounding, no weird noises. Just be aware that you need to set carefully the input volumes from your DAW/PA/MIXER in order to achieve cool sounds, but it is definitely worth doing it!

Without it, I would always find myself playing around with filters searching for a way to get the sound quality I was looking for from various dynamic mics, but adding this mic activator really helped my audio reach what I feel is its true potential.
