Callie and Dana give new meaning to healing and caring in this precious love story. The month long romantic tour of Italy is told in such rich splendor that I felt like I was there. The experiences this group of 12 intriguing characters shared made you love each one. The life stories for each one provided the backdrop of their closeness asthey toured such exquisite places. Beautifully written, full of emotions so intense I held my breathe often and my heart felt full. This is a remarkable story kept me up for hours. This is one more reason to love the writing of Cathrine Maiorisi.

Two women meet on a luxury almost month long tour of Italy. The guided tour is limited to twelve people and Calliope (Calli) Deandre and Danielle (Dana) Wittman quickly pair up as travel buddies. Calli is internationally famous romance and mystery writer but isn’t recognized by the group initially. She has been homebound for the last year while grieving for her wife who died. She has a book due soon and the setting is Italy. Dana is a tech millionaire who planned to go on the trip with her now ex-girlfriend. In the beginning Dana recognizes and helps Calli through her panic attacks.

This book reads like a love letter to Italy. The cities, history and food descriptions fill the pages between getting to know you conversations. I’ve been to a majority of the locations so that was a real plus for me. But I can see it may be too much information for readers less interested in Italy. I enjoyed the gentleness and support Calli and Dana give each other and Maiorisi does a great job at increasing the sexual tension between the two. I also like that the rest of their group gets to be part of the story. I have traveled with people and formed friendships where we have reunions to reconnect, so the bonding of the group seems real to me. The signs from birds is a sweet added touch.

This is a gentle, slow burn romance between two mature and successful people. I don’t recall ages ever mentioned but Calli was with her wife for roughly twenty years so it is safe to say they are in their 40s. This is a lovely travel romance and if you love Italy the location is an added bonus.

Callie lost her wife, her soulmate a year ago. She's been in mourning to the point of having anxiety attacks just leaving the house. When she's talked into going on a month long tour of Italy. When she gets there without an anxiety attack she feels she might be able to do this. Until she meets the group she'll be with and is leered at. She starts to panic, but a soft voice talks to her and talks her down. That's when she meets Dana. Dana offers to stay by her side to help her with her anxiety attacks. Then they go on the beautiful tour of Italy, and so will you. These two women, both with baggage, come together in a wonderful love story. I love their story and I love the tour of Italy. 5 stars!

I loved Catherine Maiorisi’s steamy lesbian romance Love Among the Ruins.

I loved its two damaged heroes: Callie, a famous romance author grieving the loss of her longtime, beloved wife; and Dana, a wealthy computer wiz, wounded by a lifetime of betrayals (most recently by a glamorous girlfriend and by Dana’s trusted business partners).

Even more I loved their travels – on a group tour of Italy through gorgeous historic towns and delicious meals and charming hotels; and through their own heartaches and insecurities to a passionate, loving relationship.

The characters and settings were extremely well-drawn. Callie and Dana were so kind and generous and their connection was so powerful, that readers will thoroughly enjoy this ride.

I just finished Catherine Maiorisi's novel "Love Among the Ruins," and now I want that kind of love story in my life (or at least a tour of Italy like Callie and Dana experience.) The sweetness, depth, passion and longing between these two women is truly poignant and heartfelt. The added bonus, of course, is the beautiful, colorful and exquisite details about this "romantic tour" of Italy. The amount of research that went into this book is incredible. I want to do this tour. I want a love like this, too. These characters are fictional, but their simmering then flaming romance is very believable. What an extraordinary book! What a great read!

Callie is a writer who has experienced the last year without her wife, Abby. Abby passed away due to cancer and Callie hasn't really left the confines of her home as she continues to grieve. Friends are instructed to give Callie a posthumous letter from Abby one year after her death if Callie is still grieving. After she reads the letter she tentatively agrees to go on the month-long tour of Romantic Italy that she and Abby had discussed. During Day one of the tour Callie suffers an anxiety attack and is aided by Dana who we later find out is a multimillionaire company head. Through the first several days of the trip Dana continues to aid Callie with her anxiety attacks and helps prevent her from leaving the tour. As the tour continues the woman begin to rely on each other more, enjoy each other's company, and learn from each other about the different Italian destinations.

The writing about the Italian locale is phenomenal, read likes to tour guide summary, and definitely made this reader want to take the tour. I also enjoyed the evolution of the relationship between Callie and Dana from support to eventual friendship to tentative kissing and finally a complete romantic relationship. Grieving is a tricky process, different for everyone, and luckily Callie had Dana to help support her through some of the later stages. 4 stars
