Product Description
Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub
The CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub is the first of its kind, offering 4x the performance of traditional USB-C hubs, whilst harnessing the power of Thunderbolt 4 in order to create a device without compromises. Every Element Hub workflow will be different from the next, bringing with it the potential for incredibly unique set-ups, only limited by your imagination.
Connect what you need, when you need.
Ultimate Compatibility
Of course the Element Hub is not only for Thunderbolt 4 users. This versatile device is backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB-C, and USB 4.
This means that the Element Hub will adapt to the connected host computer in order to provide the features available to you, making the Element Hub an ideal solution for multi-workflow environments. In addition, the included Thunderbolt 4 cable is compatible with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB-C and USB 4 Type-C computers.
Built-in USB Ports
Whilst the Element Hub’s Thunderbolt 4 ports add a wealth of connectivity potential, the built-in USB-A 10Gb/s ports (USB 3.2 Gen.2) allow you to easily connect up to four high-performance USB-A devices such as ultra-fast NVMe SSDs.
Don’t Compromise On Speed
The Thunderbolt 4 ports are capable of speeds up to 3,000MB/s in order to take advantage of your ultra-fast storage devices. That is 8.5x the performance of a typical 5Gb/s USB-C hub, which offers speeds around 350MB/s from its USB-A ports.
iPad Pro & Windows Tablets
As the Element Hub is a Thunderbolt 4/USB4 device, it is compatible with USB-C tablets such as the iPad Pro or Windows tablets.
Simply connect the Element Hub to your tablet and take advantage of the connectivity options.
Monitor Compatibility
The fact that the Element Hub has multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports means that you can connect to any type of monitor you require.
You can directly connect a USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 monitor for simple plug and play simplicity. Alternatively you can use a USB-C Video Adapter to connect an HDMI or DisplayPort monitor.
When connected to a Thunderbolt 4 host computer the Element Hub is capable of adding a monitor up to 8K resolution, or dual 4K 60Hz monitors in either extended or mirrored modes.

For non-Thunderbolt 4 users the possible monitor resolutions can be seen below.
Tablet & Ultrabook Charging
The Element Hub not only offers versatile connectivity options, it will also charge a Tablet or Ultrabook at up to 60W through the [Computer] port.
Unlike other Thunderbolt 4 hubs on the market, the Element Hub has a fixed 60W laptop charging function. Whilst other Thunderbolt 4 hubs reduce their laptop charging capabilities down to 30W charging or lower when the hub is fully loaded, the Element Hub will consistently provide 60W of charging if connecting to the laptop such as MacBook Pro 13″.
A Powerful Offline Charging Station
The Element Hub can even work for you when it’s not connected to your computer. Keep your USB-A or USB-C devices connected to the Element Hub and it will continue to charge them. All 8 ports on the Element Hub can be used at the same time for offline charging.

The hub comes with 4 Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and 4 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, which is a great number of ports to have for all my devices. In addition, it supports external displays, but I haven't had the opportunity to test that feature out yet. The 60W PD (Power Delivery) is a big bonus, as it allows me to charge my devices while using them without having to worry about running out of juice mid-task.
The only negative I've found with the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub is the short Thunderbolt cable that comes with it, which is only 0.8m. This length might not be sufficient for some users, especially those who require more distance between their devices and the hub. However, this is a minor issue that can be resolved by purchasing a longer cable separately.
One of the standout features of this hub is its compatibility with both Mac and Windows operating systems. The CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub is a versatile hub that provides seamless connectivity and lightning-fast data transfer speeds. This is crucial for me as I often work with large files and need a hub that can handle my demands. I've also noticed that it doesn't overheat even with extended use, which is a testament to its build quality.
In terms of design, the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub is sleek and modern, with a minimalist look that fits in perfectly with my workspace. It's also compact enough to be carried around in a bag, making it an ideal travel companion for those who need to work on the go.
Overall, I highly recommend the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient hub that can handle multiple devices with ease. Its build quality, design, and compatibility with both Mac and Windows operating systems make it a standout choice that's well worth the investment.
I could find only two SSD only docks but they were too bulky and would be too slow since all four or five ports ran off a single USB 3.0 connection (up to 5.0Gbps) so I built my own dock from four cut down 2.5" TRIM compatible enclosures and connected them to the four USB Type a ports on the Element hub. I run the hub off a Thunderbolt 3 port (20Gbps) on the laptop (that provides up to 5 or 6Gbps, the max for SATA, per drive, depending on how many drives are being written to at the time.
The dock/hub stay setting on top of my desk. The enormous PSU is Velcroed to the side of my desk to keep it out of sight and out of the way but still easy to access if I need to.
Redneck as it sounds, it works great and doesn't look too bad. Not only does it run faster than my old setup, it takes up less space, is less hassle to use, and I still have three USB ports available on the left side of my laptop. The hub itself gets a bit warm when in use, but nowhere hot enough I can't comfortably hold my hand on it. Curiously, the PSU stays cool. I have the PSU power cord plugged into a switched outlet cube located where I can easily reach it from my desk so I can turn off the dock/hub when not in use.
TRIM works through the hub. I'm using Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64-bit.
Since the four USB type A ports will max out Thunderbolt three, I do not plan on using the other three ports on the other side. They are too inconvenient to get to anyway.
For some odd reason, the dock/hub will not work on the Thunderbolt ports on the other two laptops I have built on the same Clevo chassis as my daily driver. I suspect there may be a driver issue there. Those laptops are just backups and for travel so I'm not losing sleep over it.

Let me explain: I picked up a mid-2020 Intel 4-port Macbook Pro because I needed Windows and a bunch of other things specific to Intel for school. Using it over the past few two years, it started shutting down with Kernal panics. I could not understand what device was causing it, until I realized it was my usb-c monitor - most likely the USB-C gen 2 cable. The port actually fried on the Macbook Pro due to this. I don't know if it was the cable, monitor, or just a bad logic board because the intel piece of garbage Macbook Pro is still doing it even with just the power plugged in.
When I finished school, I bought the 16 inch MBP M1 Pro model and not only did I need more than the three ports, I wanted to make sure there was a barrier between any high-voltage USB-C or Thunderbolt device.
This works perfect for that, and I replaced the monitor cable with a full on TB 4 and the monitor works flawlessly.
Great dock.
Top reviews from other countries
I bought this based on YouTube reviews. Connected to the dock I have:
- A 4k monitor (I have a USB C to Displayport cable)
- A 2.5 GB Ethernet cable (using a UGreen USB C to Ethernet adaptor)
- A keyboard and mouse USB A receiver
- A 1080P Logitech USB A webcam
- Occasionally a Thunderbolt Crucial removable SSD (for offline backups etc)
I’ve been working like this for about a year now so this is a long term review. I had the old M1 MacBook Pro for the first 6 months and now the M2 as described above.
On the positive side, it’s exceptionally stable and works exactly as I’d hoped. I can swap my MacBook and Dell laptop and everything just works flawlessly. If you are either a Dell XPS user or a MacBook user then this is perfect - clearly the swapping is specific to me but to use it with either of these products alone it would be ideal. I have never had any speed problems when everything is connected and running.
In terms of cons, I have twice had my webcam crash during calls (twice in 12 months remember) and unplugging it from the dock and plugging it back in resolved this. I’m not 100% certain whether this is the dock’s fault or the webcam so I won’t deduct a star. Furthermore, the power brick is bigger than the dock itself and the cables come out at 3 angles - if you had this whole arrangement on top of your desk it would be hideous. I bought a cheap shelf to screw to the underside of my desk to hide everything instead which works great.
One neutral point is that it charges at 65W, whereas some competing products offer a faster charge. Both my Dell and my Mac can charge at 100W, so they charge slower than their potential with this. For me, I actually like this since I believe that super fast charging degrades battery longevity, but this might be an issue to others so please think carefully about this.
In summary, it’s perfect for me and has worked flawlessly for 12 months now.
