Last Resort (The Collector Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,149 ratings

Emerson LeBlanc lost more than an acquisition. He lost the woman he loves.

There’s no redemption for a man with his past. No future for a relationship built on stalking and kidnapping. At least that’s what he believes. When he meets Daphne again, she’s not a piece of art. She’s a woman determined to paint a new path. For herself. For him. Except the ocean holds more than shadows. It holds danger that could ruin them both.

Her best trilogy
ENGLISHWhen I tell you how much this story impacted me, it is an understatement. I am fascinated by how it combines romance with art, conscience, family and even violence in a spectacular way that makes you shake.STORYLast Resort is the last part of this magnificent trilogy. There was no better way to conclude this story. She did it so fabulously, it has become my favorite trilogy by this amazing writer.Daphne is no longer the girl she was before and even being "free" she can't find herself. Now her soul belongs elsewhere and she must find a way to balance her life in order to be in harmony with her heart, her family and her talent.Emerson now knows that he needs her and that if she returns it could mean danger or her eternal happiness.OPINIONI was devastated and now I don't know what I will do without being able to relive her story. I have no choice but to go back and reread this addictive trilogy. I loved how the writer puts a different spin on mental conditions with that respect they deserve. The characters evolve in a magnificent and organic way; giving us a gem. Also, the scenes between our protagonists made my heart squeeze, although it was worth every moment of that squeeze.ESPAÑOLCuando les digo lo mucho que me impactó esta historia, es poco.

This is my review for the trilogy as a whole.
Wow. Just WOW. I am absolutely taken away. ❤️‍🔥 Amelia Wilde's writing in these three books is something I don't think I've seen often, if rarely, ever. Poetry. Pure poetry. 📖 Some may not like this writing style. But my god, it was like a wave. 🌊 Swallowing me whole and dragging me out to sea. I fell in love with this trilogy. Inlove. The poetic writing ties into Emerson and Daphne's personalities and their story. Their obsessions with art, the way the book writing itself was art, complete genius on Amelia's part. The emotion, the details, the art, both literally and figuratively was unmatched. I don't even know what to say in this review to be honest as I was so blown away I'm speechless. I've been working my way through the Lancaster, Morelli, and Constantine world for awhile now and I must say that Emerson and Daphne will be one of the most memorable stories for me. Highly recommend reading this trilogy and deep diving into the Dangerous Press world that is these families. I will definitely be reading more of Amelia's work in the future! 🤍 I left some of my annotations down below and separated them for each book (this review is for the Trilogy as a whole). POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW!!!!

    Dark Reign: Book 1
"I want to create that expression on her face the way she puts the living ocean on canvas. I want to feel it in her body. Watch it pour out of her and become something else. Art."

"And part of me is still fascinated by him. I am. I’m fascinated by the way he tasted, which was so clean and good and not like a stalker should taste. I’m fascinated by the way he touched me. By the way he scared me. Everything about him fascinates me. I wanted to go with him, damn it."

    "You’re my newest acquisition.”

    Sweet Mercy: Book 2
“You’re serious.” “Yes.” “You think I’m a piece of art.” “You’re much more than a singular piece, little painter. Beautiful and smart and kind. Perfection. You’re far too valuable to be left out in the world.”

"But the way I feel about Emerson is the same way I feel about the ocean. I can’t stop painting it. I can’t stop searching it for answers. I have that same feeling about Emerson, and it goes beyond painting. I don’t want him as a subject. I want to… Swim in him. It sounds ridiculous in my head. I don’t even want to swim in the ocean. In a way, it’s happening when I paint. I’m under the waves. Consumed by them."

"He holds my gaze with affection and obsession. Every word has two meanings. Art is everything to him. But I am more than everything. It’s the thinnest layer of paint over his heart."

"I hear the words as I’m looking into her eyes. Into Daphne’s sweet, dark eyes, which have captivated me from the very first glance. Into the face of the only woman I’ve ever loved. I love her. I love her."

    Last Resort: Book 3
“Loving people who are a little f***** up. Or being a little f***** up and finding someone who can love you anyway. In this family, everything’s slightly f*****. You’re just one of us.”

"I’m touching her. It’s all I’ve ever wanted. My mind memorizes it. Repaints it. Hangs it, again and again. I’m touching her. My little painter. She is not art. Or—she is more than art. More than an obsession. She’s everything. Breathing, living love. She climbed out of her frame to stand beside me. In front of me. As if she can actually buffer the world. I’ve never asked for a human shield. Never assumed, not for a moment, that I deserved one. I certainly don’t deserve her now. I’ll never be worthy of Daphne Morelli."

"It’s never going to be simple with Emerson. Everyone in my family could accept him as mine without a fight, and he still might not believe it was right. It’s a conversation that could last months. Years. It’s an argument I’m willing to make forever. Because Emerson’s not just right for me. He’s the only one."

"I’ve never been much for swimming, except as a means to an end, but I’d swim with her. Another wave."

"If you’re not a piece of art, why are you begging to be put in your frame?” She blushes. “Do you promise you will?” “Yes. And I promise to love you until my very last breath and after.” And then, because she wants so much to be mine, I promise to be her husband for that long, too. I promise to honor her and cherish her and never, never let her go."

took me days to finish the last part of the trilogy and I'm glad that it was over. The first book sold me into investing my time on this trilogy, but idk what happened along the way that it felt overwhelming processing the facts thrown on the way. Overall, I loved the art part of the story and the pictures were clearly painted with words that felt alive. I think that is what made me stay until the end.

MG the trilogy only got better and I'm so sad it is over. I need more Emerson and Daphne in my life! This book was AMAZING. The growth between Emerson and Daphne and just how much they truly loved and were obsessed with each other. Daphne couldn't stop thinking of Emerson and when she stopped painting it was serious how much she truly needed him in her life. I really wasn't sure if Emerson was going to make it or not and it broke my heart just how bad his panic attacks got. The lengths Emerson went to Daphne back from his father might not seem like much to some people but for Emerson it was huge and it showed just how much he would do for her. I want a love like theirs!
I also loved reading about the extended family and how relationships changed for the better between Daphne and her siblings but also her father. It was nice reading about a whole new side of Bryant Morelli. Daphne really found out just how much Leo had been with her growing up and how he was almost like her father and it was time for him to be a brother. I liked the little updates on Leo and Hayley and how Lucian and Elaine are doing. The changes between Emerson and his father and how he worked through some of his issues with him. Emerson has really been able to start to overcome some of his anxiety and Daphne is so patient with him. I can not wait to read about Emerson's brother Will and who he was thinking of at the end of the book. Along with him the ending about Eva Morelli I'm excited to find out more.
My fingers are crossed we can continue to read about Leo and Hayley and Emerson and Daphne in future books!

So that thing in Sweet Mercy that got panties wadded and pearls clutched . . . it was a brilliant bit of character shorthand and really reflected the depth and complexity of Emerson's brokenness, rather than a character deviation as some continue to insist. He struggles so desperately with self worth, with trust, with isolation and communication, and continues to use the only language he has - his passion for art and and one very special creator. This inner storm sets up a beautiful, lyrical finale for Emerson and Daphne. It's not just about them finding their way to each other but finding a way forward, accepting their darkness, and allowing it to raise each other up. The way that they gave each other the strength and support to take their place within their own families without losing themselves is icing on this dark, luscious cake of a story.

Yes, it was hot AF, dark and kinky, but it was also a lovely exploration of boundaries, consent, and acceptance.

This is an unusual love story and look into an obsessive man’s mind.
In true Amelia Wilde style she captures the madness of this man but also his vulnerability and desperation. Whilst it may not be for everyone I personally couldn’t put it down.

Last Resort is book 3 of The Collector which is part of the Midnight Dynasty World and is the conclusion to Daphne and Emerson's story.
I really enjoyed this book and how it finished.
I wasn't keen on the way The Collector series was written at first as I felt it was too flowery and poetic but as I read this book it all started to make sense and I felt that Daphne and Emerson's story had to be written like this.
I loved Emerson's character, the author did a great job with him and my heart ached when I found out why he is the way he is.
Yes the writing style was not my favourite but I'm very happy I stuck with it as it was such a beautiful story.
