Huge LEGO Train Set for Huge Fun!
My kids adore LEGO and I've been happily playing along with their budding interest in the famed building toy since it was a childhood favorite of mine too. The LEGO City Cargo Train 60052 was something my wife and I picked up for one of our kids' birthdays and it was an immediate hit!--------------------Building:--------------------First, there's a lot to this set! With over eight-hundred pieces comprising a locomotive engine, two flatcars, a livestock car, a tractor trailer and a cargo terminal it took my little boys and me about a week of working on this train to get everything together and setup in our basement play area. This set is definitely beyond the capability of my kids in terms of assembly difficulty (they're still in preschool) but with some of my assistance, we had the train setup and ready for play in relatively short order.--------------------Power Functions:--------------------This kit contains everything you need to build the train and associated components including the items needed for propulsion and a modest amount of track right in the box! Compared to our other LEGO train, the LEGO City Passenger Train 7938 this set is much more detailed and includes quite a bit more track including two sets of switch track! The power functions are easy to setup and require AAA batteries that fit inside a battery box that rides along with the train. All of the power is supplied by the battery box meaning you don't have to fuss with low-voltage track like the older 9V LEGO track sets. The power functions all work perfectly and the batteries last an incredible amount of time. We've had our original LEGO City Passenger Train running on the same set of batteries for about a year and it's still going strong.I recommend investing in a good set of rechargeable batteries if you're purchasing this train as you'll need a lot of batteries - six (6) for the battery box and another three (3) for the little remote that controls the train.I'll also mention that one remote can be paired to two different LEGO trains. This is accomplished by connecting the IR receiver on the train the corresponding color, either blue or red, on the battery box. Then the train will be powered by either the left or right dial on the included IR remote (again either blue or red).--------------------Cool Features:--------------------There's so much to this set that it's difficult to pick one thing that's a standout "cool feature" but my oldest son loves driving the train around our track and stopping by the cargo terminal to load and offload cargo from the train. The gantry crane on this set moves along a set of guiderails and the hook is operated by using a small knob on the top of the crane to raise and lower cargo. We also recently picked up the LEGO City Town Cargo Terminal 60169 and it pairs perfectly with this train!Another great thing about LEGO trains is that they don't have to be driven by the power pack. Often my kids just like pushing the trains around the track on their own and running with their imaginations.--------------------LEGO Track:--------------------I'll just mention that if you're looking at this train you may consider buying additional track. The track included in the set is enough to get you started but probably not enough to get the most out of this train. Additional track components:→ 7895 - LEGO City Switch Tracks 7895→ 7499 - LEGO City Flexible Tracks 7499→ 7896 - LEGO City Straight & Curved Rails--------------------Closing:--------------------If you're a LEGO collector or just looking to pick up a neat LEGO set for someone this is by far the best LEGO train I've used. A massive set that contains a variety of components and huge fun factor. My kids have been playing with this all summer without any hint that it'll get boring anytime soon. Recommended!

My grandson is a huge fan of LEGOs - the bigger the set the better. He asked for the LEGO City Trains Cargo Train set (60052) for his birthday. He was SO excited when he opened it, and wanted to get started on it immediately. There are 888 pieces in this set. There are so many details included in this set - the imagination can run wild with different ideas. There is a diesel engine, three freight cars, two flat cars, and one open top cattle car. There are also a large variety of extra props to add to the scene.

The train runs with a remote control. It needs nine AAA batteries (not included). You might want to use rechargeable lithium batteries instead. They last longer and will be less expensive in the long run. It is worth it not to have to change the batteries so often.

I would recommend this LEGO set for any child who is into LEGOs and who loves trains. They can expand their imagination in so many ways and make up so many stories play with the train. The train set can be left up, or it is easy enough to take down when not being played with. You man want to purchase additional track to make a larger set-up and to expand the corners for faster speed.

My kiddo got this for his 6th birthday. He needed a bit of help, but I was so impressed with how much of the building he was able to do himself. We LOVE this train. It is so well thought out, we love that the controller can control multiple trains (though we currently only have the one). My son leaves the engine together and re-thinks and re-builds the other train cars with regular legos as he sees fit. Sometimes he will build up a caboose out of the flatbed car. He is using his imagination and I'm pretty sure my husband is jealous of his train. I will say, we have had to re-build this SOOOOOO many times, as it does sometimes break apart when it's dropped (he's 6 and it happens a lot)...but it's great that because it's made from legos, you just put it back together. We have discussed that we will likely use the Kragle on the engine soon so that it stays together...PERMANENTLY.

So my eight-year-old desperately wanted this train. I tried to use the Amazon app to show him that the train was discontinued and I would not be able to get this for him since it was $200. however his heart would not be swayed so Santa had to come to his rescue and order this off Amazon. After we got it assembled the engine did not work, we tried and tried and nothing fixed it. My husband called the customer support number for Lego that was included in the packaging. Without hesitation they shipped a new motor!! It took longer than I expected, but once we got it the train worked beautifully. My only advice is to make sure that your eight-year-old hasn't skipped some steps in his excitement to have this baby up and running! Fixed some missed connections and we are full steam ahead! Pun intended....

You may see people complaining about battery life? I switched to Enelope rechargeable batteries years ago because I had a power-hungry camera. I put six Enelope in this train's battery box (for the engine) and then use three regular batteries in the remote control. The Enelope last way way way longer than regular batteries, and even longer than non-Enelope rechargeables, and they are cheaper than the LEGO brand (~$60) rechargeable box option.

Speaking about the train set, of the currently available LEGO train sets, this set (60052 blue cargo train) is my absolute favorite. It has the most play-ability and variety of train cars and parts and even track types included. This set comes with switch tracks and straight tracks. In comparison, the red heavy haul set (60098) does not include any switch tracks and only makes a large oval. The high speed commuter train (60051) only comes with a tiny oval.

Reviewed in Canada on January 3, 2017
Excellent and well designed product - super quiet and runs well + solid construction. The electrical connectors are a little bit sensitive (being Lego and buildable) and may need some very minor re-install / plugging after a derailment. All the accessories are great and it makes up quite a complete and interesting set for a first time purchase. Superior value for money. My 5 year old built it relatively easily with some minor guidance. Only complaint (for us, not the product) is we have to remind him it is not a robust toy to be rough with. Otherwise - he exploded with excitement on receiving for x-mas after being on his wish list for 9 months. Some more instructions on the battery loading to the engine and how the remote works would reduce some trial and error (or mistakes and re-build) for a child (eg. add a reminder on the page (to install batteries) in the booklet where it shows how to install the motor - as opposed to only on the cover page (many pages prior)). Another superior Lego product.

We and our kids love Lego. It's expensive but worth each penny. Quality is top class. My son spends hours playing with it. Any amount is justified if he can be kept away from TV and mobile phones. Thanks to seller and Amazon for prompt and neat delivery. It was my son's birthday gift and he really enjoying it by building different types of trains, some with only engine :) for those who love lego, this is next step forward from building blocks

Me parece un poco como falta de seriedad de Amazon Mexico y debería aparecer en la descripción y cobrarlo como tal....

Reviewed in Canada on August 30, 2016
I've always enjoyed toy trains and loved Lego, and this set didn't disappoint. It's got all of the joys of building Lego, playing and moving stuff around, building a train track and remote control all rolled into one. Everyone in our house loves it, and I think we all will for years to come (4 year old boy and 6 year old girl, as well as my wife and myself). In my books these Lego trains are way better than any model trains (which are at least the same price) and can make a great toy for any age. Needs a lot of AAA batteries so I'll either get some rechargeable ones or the lithium ion battery from Lego (which is overpriced), but that's pretty normal these days. The heavy haul train also looks great, but the lower price on this one makes it a better buy... Though you may want to collect them all once you've seen how awesome a Lego train is!
