don't know who this "we" is she keeps talking about. Any parent with an eczema baby knows how hard it is seeing your baby cry and scratch and be covered in scaley welts. I would cut off my right arm if it meant giving him a little bit more comfort! Of COURSE we want to treat our babies and of course we want to do our best to explore all options. After changing all forms of bedding, clothing and contact fabrics to super breathable hypoallergenic materials, after giving up hair spray, scented deodorant, and putting the most expensive air purifier in the house; and after using every $$$ eczema lotion 12+ times a day on his little body, because, according to the ped "eczema is just dry skin." I thought I was stuck watching my baby suffer.
I'm not a medical professional. I don't have a fancy degree. I guess I just woke up and decided what the hey. I'm this boy's mother- I care about his welfare more than anyone possibly could. Why am I waiting on someone else to give me permission to do something for him?
I ordered Kabrita. I was sooo worried. What if it hurts him? What if it makes him sick? What if I give him the wrong formula thats not even for his age (he was only 4 months and the only Kabrita available in the US is toddler formula) and what if something happens and I end up in cuffs for endangering my child because it was against the doctor's advice.. oh god the nonsense we worry about.
I did my research and prayed and whipped up a bottle per the instructions. He GOBBLED it up like a champ! I mean, he realllly loved it. I can't say I'm too surprised... the Enfamil and Similac he'd been on before smelled pretty gnarly. Kabrita looks like milk, smells clean and pure.
Now for the wow factor: Within 2 feedings his temples and neck were clear of red scales. Within a day, his trunk was down to just dry scales, no redness/inflammation. Within 3 days, he was completely rid of ALL redness and most of the dry patches.
Babysaurus has been on Kabrita from age 4 months to now 5 months. His wheezing is gone. (never occurred to me before that his esophagus and mouth could have been irritated as well! Doc had said "some babies are just noisy breathers" smh) His red watery eyes are gone. He doesn't claw at his face anymore. He doesn't have weird poops and screaming painful gas pains anymore. Yes, he still has eczema. When he has a bath or after a car ride in the cold when I unbundle his layers of winter gear, he's irritated. But it's NOTHING like it was when he was on traditional cow's milk formula. His skin is 95% pure and clean.
I am sooo glad i used my better judgment and tried Kabrita. My baby doesn't suffer anymore- and we didn't have to just "wait it out" til age 1-2. Oh & since he has just started solids - he loooooooves the kabrita yogurt pouches :) :) PLEASE- parents! If your baby is hurting do your research and try goat's milk formula. It could mean everything for your baby's health and comfort.
*a couple notes- although the formula says "toddler 12-24 mos" according to their website there is minimal nutritional difference between this and the infant formulation. Basically, it's a red tape thing; toddler formula was OK'ed be sold here right away- infant formula has to be 'approved' by the FDA. Presumably when the government authorities and pediatricians like mine are done playing touch football with the infant kabrita cans, or floating little paper boats across a pool filled with goat milk or whatever other rigorous safety tests they do- the infant formula will become available in the U.S. as well. I mean, they're fine giving our babies crap from china and letting ANYTHING be fed to our toddlers without testing, but hey who am I to judge.
I have found goat milk formula to be better for gas, tummy rumblings and spitup, yet more constipating. I've countered this by adding 1/2 tsp virgin organic coconut oil to each bottle helps with digestion as well as adding extra nutrition & fat for our under 12 month babies. Coconut oil is da bomb. It's nutrionally BOSS.
I plan on still giving it to babysaurus when he's a tot. And a tween. And a teen. And at his college graduation. And someday as he pledges, on bended knee, his undying affections to some lovely young lady -There I will be; jumping out from behind a bush with a jar of EVCO for them both. No, coconut is NOT a tree nut therefore an allergen- it's a fruit. It's used topically as an anti-allergen so there. Dang near anyone can use it.
My son is reaching milestones like a boss, growing strong and steady. He's a 22 lb beefcake at 5 months and can rip my hair out at the root with his killer grip. He can sit up, roll over, bear weight on his legs, etc. Healthwise, he is doing just peachy on this formula.
Yes, I tried the homemade goatmilk formula with the Meyenberg powder and the 50 million steps. I found it to be a huge P.I.T.A. and also it seemed to make the boy super gassy and hangry all the time. Felt like something was missing. Ain't nobody got time for that. Kiddo is worth the $$$ and so is my time so I just buy Kabrita. Maybe if enough parents push for amazing products like these we can create the demand for them to get it on the shelves at more stores. Until then, I will continue to trek to Whole Foods and order it online.
* No, I have not been paid by Kabrita U.S.A. or by Coconuts to write this. I'm just a very thankful momma.
I am so glad and thankful that I made this switch. I have seen nothing but improvement with my baby girl in just 5 short days. She loves the taste and drank it with no problems from the beginning. (She isn’t very picky though!) The first thing I noticed was that this formula does not smell or look like the Normal cows milk brands. It’s smooth, easy to mix, not greasy, and has little to no scent at all.
The following improvements are what I have observed in just 5 days on Kabrita:
1. the foul smelling gas is gone. She still has some gas but it’s more like it was when she was exclusively breastfeeding and doesn’t smell at all.
2. No more peanut butter sludge poops. Her poop is back to the seedy mustard color poop like it was with just breast milk. She is still only pooping 1 to 2 times a day but she doesn’t seem uncomfortable.
3. Her dry flakey scalp cleared completely
4. Her eyes aren’t as goopy and watery (she does have blocked tear ducts)
5. She is not wheezing and stopped up like she was (this could be a coincidence as pollen season is coming to a close in our area)
6. Her face is clearing up. Baby acne had gotten pretty bad after starting formula.
7. She is now sleeping 5-6 hour stretches at night (this could be a coincidence as well as it’s pretty typical by 8 weeks for longer night sleep)
8. She got a little fussier for the first few days but now is happier than ever. I have to think her little system was almost detoxing from the other formula. I don’t think Kabrita gave her the same fullness as Enfamil. Corn syrup of course sits very heavy and she got used to that feeling. Now she seems to have adjusted and is very content after a bottle.
9. She is not spitting up constantly. Maybe just once or twice a day now instead of once or twice a feeding.
10. My baby smells like a baby again instead of like spoiled milk, chemicals, and foul gas.
So in conclusion, I’m a believer! I will definitely continue feeding my daughter Kabrita. It is a bit more expensive but since I only supplement, it’s not outrageous at all and is worth every penny to have a happy healthy baby. Amazon seems to have the best price available. However, you can get a free ($8.99 shipping cost only)14 oz sample can from the Kabrita website. This is a great way to give it a shot without having to spend a ton! I’m not a dr or medical professional, so all of my claims are based merely on my observations of my own child. I did not consult her pediatrician before switching but if you have concerns or fears, you should definitely ask the dr. Just beware that most medical professionals will tell you that all of the things I saw with formula are normal and not to be concerned. It has been my experience that most drs are not very well versed in nutrition and gut health. That being said, I will always follow what my pediatrician says first when it comes to my child’s overall health. Mine had just told me that he didn’t care what I fed her as long as she was gaining weight and developing like she should!
I don’t typically write reviews and especially ones this long and detailed so the fact that I felt so strongly about sharing my experience is proof of how pleased I am with this formula. I am a real person and I didn’t receive any incentives to write this review. I am just simply a new mom who was made a believer by my experiences with Kabrita. I will update my review after a month if anything else improves or we see any changes.
