Editorial Reviews

Product description

NEW Combo BLUWAVS CD and FLAC FILE

Amazon.com

Playing punk pop for teenagers hooked on MTV may inflate your bank account, but it doesn't do much for your credibility. Fortunately, Blink-182 guitarist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker, two-thirds of the multiplatinum crew, found a way around this quandary. The pair formed Box Car Racer and recorded this album, which strips back the gloss and brings on the noise. Referencing explosive hardcore groups like Fugazi and Refused, who encase their euphoric melodies with barbwire riffs and earsplitting rhythms, may sound like an ominous route. But while Box Car Racer songs like "Maybe I Don't" and "I Feel So" take on weightier subject matter than Blink-182's typical slapstick fare, it's ultimately not that big of a departure. The record was produced by Jerry Finn, who helmed Blink-182's last three albums, and features singer-bassist Mark Hoppus as a guest vocalist. --Aidin Vaziri

Fairly disappointed.

Fairly disappointed.
First and foremost, this review is not in regards to the musical content of this album. Buying this vinyl reissue 15 years after it's first release, I obviously love the music of Box Car Racer. Upon visual inspection of the record, I noticed what appeared to impurities in the vinyl. It had a scuffed look, though I do not believe it to be damaged. The turntable hole cut out was a very tight fit as well. I fear breaking the record when removing. The audio mix or pressing is noticeably off. If this record wasn't brand new, it could pass as being pressed in the 1970's. For $20, I expected more. The label did bare minimum effort here. I'm happy to finally have the record, but was maybe too hopeful.
