This book was so bad. I am writing this so that I remember why it was so bad. This is a story about an NFL player, Brandon “Brick” Jennings who falls for his best friend’s little sister, Kaya Hudson. After dumping a popular influencer girlfriend, Brick escapes to his hometown after said girlfriend trashes him on social media. He reunites with his best friend Kyle (Kaya’s older brother), hooks up with Kaya and they begin a thing behind Kyle’s back while they plan for Kyle’s upcoming destination wedding. The best friend’s sister/brother is my least favorite trope, because it sets up a cheap amateurish conflict that shouldn’t really be a conflict. And we all know what happens in this trope. I could have stopped the book midway and scripted the ending myself. The scenes were very disjointed. For example, one scene a conversation is happening and the next line they are on the plane heading to the destination wedding. As a reader, I am thinking “wait they didn’t finish the last conversation.” Although I listened to the audio version of the book, I still noticed several typos. And my biggest pet peeve is Kaya is supposedly “a woman of color” as she states, but there is zero cultural representation in the book and the female narrator sounded like teenage girl.

I disliked both Brick and Kaya, mostly because there was zero character development. Brick and Kaya were both immature and showed no growth whatsoever. The story felt like the author rushed to get enough words out to fill the space of a 5-hour audio book. There were huge pieces of story development missing from one chapter to the next. Also, did the author intend to make Brick and Freak (from Nighthawks #6) have the same last name, Jennings? There was no mention of a family relationship as we learn Freak was just drafted to the Nighthawks.

I read the previous books in the Nighthawks series and I actually liked most of them. To be fair to the author, I will go back and review the previous books as I would rate them “good” to “pretty-good.” I will give the author another chance and chock up Brick with her just having a bad day.

This is book seven in The Nighthawk series and it is Kaya and Brick’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Kaya and Brick have known each other since they were children and Kaya’s brother Kyle is also Brick’s best friend but one incident between Kaya and Brick put them at odds with each other for years. Brick is in the NFL and also a pro ball player for The Nighthawks and things were going well until he broke up with a woman that he had been seeing and she absolutely swayed him across her social media channel which completely derailed his life and career so his boss has informed him that he needs to take a break and that is how he ends up back in his hometown and best man to his best friend Kyle who is getting married. Kaya is a virtual assistant for a old friends lawyer company and even though it didn’t fill her with much enthusiasm at least she had a job and now she has been told that Brick is back and she will have to see him again which she is not looking forward to but with him being her brothers best man they will have to be cordial. The attraction and chemistry between Kaya and Brick is so strong, hot and intense and even though Kaya feels like they are enemy’s there comes a time that they can no longer deny how much they want each other so they end up giving in to their attraction they absolutely go up in flames and sparks fly when ever they are near each other even though they try to keep it under control and then everything blows up in there faces breaking them apart but will they be able to find there way back to each other and get over the hurdle that was thrown at them and get a chance of being together and getting the happiness that they both deserve. Wow I absolutely loved this book and I couldn’t put it down and I read it in one sitting until the early hours of the morning because I was totally hooked right from the first page and it kept my attention throughout as it was so addictive and a real page turner and had me wondering what the outcome would be for them as they were so perfect for each other and I loved them together. I definitely recommend you read this book and series and you will not be disappointed.

A best man pact

When Brandon (Brick) Jennings has a very public and damaging break up with his short term girlfriend, he see an opportunity to escape the madness by going home to be the best man in a wedding for his best friend Kyle. Little does he know he will be sharing best man duties with Kyles little sister Kaya Hudson. Brick remembers Kaya has his best friends awkward little sister until he sees her at his welcome home party and realizes how much she has changed in all these years. Brick now sees Kaya as the curvy sexy woman she has always been.  Brick also doesn't realize that while Kaya secretly loves him, she is holding a grudge because he gave Kaya her first kiss and acted like it was no big deal causing years of pent up aggression. Add in the fear that over protective big brother Kyle will find out and this makes for the best friends to enemies/ brother's best friend stories I have read in a long time!

I absolutely love the sexual push and pull from both Brick and Kaya. Being forced to work together for the wedding really brought out their desires for each other and also helped to alleviate some of their own personal struggles. I think this is one of the best friends to enemies/ brother's best friend stories I have read in a long time! This story had it all and I can't wait for more!

Another great addition to this fabulous series. Brick & Kaya's story has a couple of tropes that are like catnip to me - brother's best friend & enemies to lovers. Right from the start when they had their falling out, I just needed to know what was going to happen next, and I was basically flipping the pages right until the very end.
But the story took off for me at the part where it was years later, due to Kaya's brother getting married, they are thrust together again, and boy do the sparks fly!! I loved how these two are together, Kaya trying her hardest to keep Brick at a distance, which she could only do for so long. He knew he was given a second chance with her, and he would do everything to make her his. Honestly, I cannot get enough of the H written this way, I find it absolutely amazing.
This book, even though part of a lengthy series, does definitely read as a standalone, but I do obviously recommend reading them all anyway - you will not be disappointed.
If I have read correctly, there will be at least another book in this series. I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on it.

I received this book for Free to Give My True Personal Review

We start by getting a remembrance by Kaya Hudson when she was in junior high & her first night hoping to get closer to the older lad she's had an eye on in the neighbourhood John Dixon well that went down the drain after her brother Kyle's best mate & football team mate Brandon Brick Jeninngs embarrassed her. But he doesn't just do that he Gives Her, her first kiss.
But it's not until Brick comes back 10yrs after she last spoked to him on that last night & he's now a professional NFL for the Nighthawkes & he was coming back for Kyle's wedding to his highschool sweetheart Dena.
And Kyle's dream was to be an NFL player also until an injury out of that career.

But it's when Kayla & Brick have to work together for the wedding & what is frosty at the offstart Bevin heated then shattered.
But its will the wedding go ahead & will these Old best mates still have their Friendship in tact & could these 2 old friends- enemies be able to be truthful to not just themselves but to everyone.

Another Great love story by Lisa Lang Blakeney couldn't put it down & had to stay it even when I was in the middle of a boxset

Kaya’s happiness 4 ½ stars. - Brick wasn't really looking for love. After all, he just ended a relationship that he thought had run its course. Naturally, the ex wasn’t happy about it and social media exploded with hate for Brick. Taking a break, he decided to attend his childhood best friend Kyle’s wedding as the best man. Going back to the town he grew up in, he remembered how he felt for Kaya. This time, he decided to do something about it. Kaya wanted Brick too but was very reluctant to get involved. Can Brick convince Kaya to give them a shot? It’s a story about friendship, family and enduring attraction that turned into love. The story has a lot of steamy scenes. It’s also a story about forgiveness and fighting for what you want. Brick is very caring. He’s been working really hard to make Kaya’s life better and to make her happy. So romantic!

Okay wow Lisa Lang Blakeney has knocked it out the park again with this one!

Everyone meet Brick! This is book 7 in The Nighthawk series. Kaya and Brick have known each other since they were kids and Kaya’s brother Kyle is also Brick’s best friend! He shouldn’t want her and it’s the last thing he needs but…

Seriously I absolutely loved this book I couldn’t put it down from it landing in my kindle! Yes I pulled an all-nighter to read it all 😉 Bricks story keeps your attention to the point that you can’t stop reading as you need to find out what happens next! 2 people that seem so perfect together but have to over come a lot before they’re there. Don’t walk run to get this book you won’t be disappointed 💖

A member of the Nighthawks, BRICK’s story takes place during the off season. He returns to his home town to stand up in his best friend’s wedding, seeing Kayla for the first time in 10 years.

The story has ex-partner complications, keeping a secret from family, and Brick’s need to keep a low profile for PR reasons. Kaya feels torn in her loyalty to her brother, her attraction to Brick, and her inability to trust her own worth.

I would have liked a little more football and team connection, but BRICK is a good story on its own, too.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author and this is a voluntary review.

Amazing Read! I loved getting to see Brick and Kaya get the HEA, it seems like it may have been a long time coming. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Kyle and Dena, they just seemed like everything needed to be about them. No thoughts as to how the other person or people might feel. I wish that Kaya had stood up for herself a little more in the story. It seemed like she just let everyone steam roll over her, from her mom to the happiness of her brother no matter how it would make her feel.
Overall though, I really loved getting to know Brick and Kaya. Getting to see when Kaya forgot about everyone else and just worried about her happiness was so amazing to see.

Brick
By Lisa Lang Blakeney
Main Characters: Brick (Brandon) and Kaya
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
5 out of 5 stars
This is book 7 in The Nighthawk Series. Kaya and Brick (her brother's best friend) have known each other since high school. Brick was older and left for college and then the NFL. Something happened between them in high school; they had not seen each other in years. When they see each other again when her brother Kyle is getting married, their chemistry is WOW! This was a best friends-to-enemies story. I loved it.

This is such a brilliant read.
When Bricks life starts to fall apart he goes back home. His best friend Kyle is getting married and he will be his best man, along with Kyle's sister Kaya.
Kaya hasn't seen Brick since he kissed her years ago but then left to play in the NFL.
As they work together the chemistry just gets hotter and they eventually give in but could this be anything more than a fling when she has been burnt badly from her last relationship.
I loved how they were together and the ending is perfect.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Brick is not your typical best friends little sister story line. This man is willing to lose everything for Kaya because he loves her so much and believes in the future he knows they are destined for. This hot shot NFL baller falls hard and fast - he falls first - and it totally swoon worthy. Kaya never moved on from her first kiss and holds a lot of resentment for the way she was treated afterwards. Little did she know her brothers best friend was feeling something all those years ago as well. You can't not swoon over a man that fights for his woman no matter the cost.

His best friend’s little sister?

Brandon “Brick” Jennings knew breaking up with his influencer girlfriend in public would help to make it less of a disaster. It didn’t so he decided lay low and stay out of the news by going back home and be in his best friend’s wedding. Only problem was Naya Hudson, his best friend’s little sister and the one person he couldn’t get out of his mind even though she was currently dating someone.

When Brick breaks up with his influencer girlfriend, it goes sideways quickly. He goes home to his best friend's wedding only to get sucked into Kayas beauty.

Kaya has hated Brick since he humiliated her 10 years ago and then stole her first kiss.

Falling for your brother's best friend is never easy, especially when that best friend has a reputation for being a player and your neither is dead set against it.

A few tropes like best friend’s little sister aka Kaya, Kyle's little sister and the one Brick has secretly wanted. When he comes home for Kyle's wedding there is Kaya but she is also off limits. However, despite her feelings for him as well she is bitter as well. They have a tremendous amount of chemistry and a few things play out in the story. I loved how Lisa delivered this story.

Brick & Kaya

Not my favorite. I don't really have to much to say about it except I thought Kayas brother was an a$$hole. Brick has been his best friend forever, if he thought Brick wasn't a great person would he have maintained their friendship that long???
