Publisher's summary

A powerful mind. A robust body. Both are needed to survive dead gods and zealots.

After clashing fiercely with Fellhorn's followers, Argrave has been forever altered by the desert's crucible. Awaiting him as he makes his way back to his homeland are faces from the past – friends and foes, all unprepared for his transformation.

Argrave now ventures into the core of a land besieged by plague, forced to ally with his unpredictable, fervently passionate brother: Orion. Wielding strength that borders on the mythical, Orion might just hold the key to quelling the foul force spawning the unnatural pestilence. Yet, alliances are as delicate as they are dangerous. If Orion discovers the source of the change Argrave has endured, the lines between brother and enemy could blur in an instant.

His transformation is both a weapon and a wildcard, meaning Argrave needs to dance on the razor's edge of saving the land... and not being burned as a heretic.

4.5

If it were an option I would give this book a 4.5. it contains a lot of great storytelling, world building, character development, and dialogue, but a part of it is on the verge of being a deusmachnia. It is progression fantasy and a continuing series, so we know that things are all going to turn out probably okay which sets a bit of expectation. Good book, read it.

Framing of Argrave

Is he playing the part of kingslayer as in GoT or that of Hannibal sacking Rome? Hard to say but one thing is becoming violently clear, the ruling house of Vasquer is on somebody's Kill or Not Kill list and it's looking like the "Not Kill" is losing favor. Book 4 in the series moves the storyline along in a constant forward pace with Argrave and his small coterie of followers encountering ghastly and gruesome monsters and antagonists, almost on every step forward. The goal being to find the source of the deadly plague and stop it by any means possible. Joining him in this quest is a very mercurial and ungodly strong House Vasquer brother, Orion, There is still a fair amount of intrigue continuing in this book but somewhat subdued from past books.

In all, well worth the credit.
