Slay your practice with namaslay!!!

Slay your practice with namaslay!!!
I have been following Yoga By Candace on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and Candace on Snap Chat. I find her to be truly inspiring and when I found out she wrote a book I was (jump on a couch and scream for joy) excited for this book and immediately pre-ordered a copy. While waiting non to patiently for my book I attempted some videos and found that I need quite a bit more practice. (5 + years of on and off Dahn Yoga practice and I am no where near where I imagine my potential to be) thats ok! I will work at it and I will use namaslay to help me along with my journey. What else about this this book grabbed my attention was I suffer from Anxiety and Depression for years and it always helps to read others story and know your not alone. Candace has had some serious struggles and to come out as this amazing business woman/yoga instructor as well as so many other things! She is truly and inspiration and a woman I admire greatly! I thought I had lost my motivation and inspiration and now when I think that I turn to yoga by Candace for inspirationI highly recommend this book to yogis of all levels there is something for everyone in this book!

She's real, she's hilarious, and she's one bad-ass chick. Candace Moore's blog yogabycandace.com (and her youtube channel and her instagram page) is chock full of inspiration, anecdotes, real talk, tutorials, and bits of wisdom- for yogi's and non-yogi's alike. I started following her last winter after trying one of her videos and falling in love. I felt challenged, my practice felt renewed. Once I dug deeper and found out that Candace also does some pretty intense lifting work in the gym, I was hooked on this girl. She's who I want to be like. She's strong, (inside and out) confident, and honest. When she announced a book, I knew I had to have it.

Candace's book starts out just the way I thought it would- first a smile, then a punch in the gut with a hard truth, then a quick laugh before turning the page. Her tutorials are well thought out and easy to follow for beginners and advanced practitioners alike (just an FYI, I consider myself intermediate-light), the photography is gorgeous, and the interspersion of her own story throughout the guide is perfect. She talks in one section about her struggle with crow pose and it hits you that she too had to start somewhere, that she knows exactly what it means to be a beginner and what it means to grow in your practice. I flipped through the 30-day programs too, delighted to see that they will be easy to follow and if I need to reference any of the poses, she's included the page number the breakdown is on.

If you're a beginner interested in getting into yoga, get this book.
If you're at an intermediate stage in your practice and need a little push to really rock your practice, get this book.
If you're an advanced practitioner with a home practice and a love of boss babes doing their thing, get this book.

I am not a typical "yogi" at all. I love to run and take classes at Orangetheory, which mixes cardio with weight training. My flexibility has vanished since my years in the ballet studio and while I have attended yoga classes over the years, the cost of joining a studio and attempting to fit one more thing into my weekly schedule was just not going to happen. I decided that I had enough experience over the years that with the help of a book I could likely practice yoga at home to regain my flexibility and find some peaceful moments. I wandered the aisles of Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago, flipping through one yoga book after another, not really identifying with a single one. I was about to abandon ship when I looked up and on the very highest shelf saw Namaslay. The title, gorgeous photo and even the paper & binding of this book was all perfect in my opinion! I ordered from my phone immediately (sorry, B&N a $10 savings, no tax and free two day shipping won over supporting brick and mortar). I went to our spare bedroom late one night and started reading the intro to Namaslay and was literally laughing out loud for over an hour. Candace writes so authentically, it felt like reading notes from a good friend and I can relate to this woman far more than any other yoga teacher I have come across. I love that she focuses on yoga meaning union and should include everyone, not just an elite group of vegans decked out in lululemon, although I do love a good pair of lululemon leggings! I am excited to continue learning from this book and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to live a more balanced life and has a good sense of humor!

I've tried to become interested in yoga a few times since I was a teen. (I'm currently 28, so I'm talking about half of my life here). Two years ago I stumbled on Candace's blog and tried one of her 30 day programs, and from then on, the way I looked at yoga completely changed. I fell in love. I owe a huge thank you to Candace (and her team over at YBC) for being authentic, beautiful people, who have helped me build self-confidence and learn a powerful tool to use against my anxiety.
I pre-ordered Namaslay as soon as I could. I flipped through and admired the gorgeous photographs and took some pointers from Candace's awesome how-to pose guides, but it wasn't until this past week that I (finally) had the opportunity to start reading. I was delighted to see that Candace's endearing, fun personality that I've come to love from her blog showed through in the book too. Her story about her personal struggles with health (physical and mental) is brave and touching. I am confident that it will help other people who are experiencing similar pain.
Namaslay offers advice to all people; the Namaslay "commandments" create a philosophy that everyone can, and should, try to practice. This is more than just a yoga reference book (although it is a great for that too!) There is information about mediation, how to use props, how to safely enter poses and what not to do in those poses, short yoga sequences and 30 day programs. I 100% recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the yoga practice.

Candace does a great job showing her personality with her writing. Her life is interesting, and her photos with notes and explanations are quite helpful. My only knock on the book was I wished it was written in a more chronological manner. Also, her YouTube videos are really good for at home yoga practice on a side note.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and Informative
Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2017
Namaslay is an inspirational book as well as educational for anyone practicing or wanting to practice yoga. Candace's story of her struggles and overcoming them are truly inspirational. The amazing visuals of Candace in yoga poses, showing readers proper alignment and helpful suggestions was just what I needed to remind me of proper form when doing my own practice and to maybe try a few new poses. What I liked most was that through the whole book, Candace "keeps it real" with her own dialogue which makes the book so much more personable. Highly recommend this book to fellow or want to be yogis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute aanrader
Reviewed in the Netherlands on April 13, 2017

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me through cancer and chemotherapy
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 10, 2017
Maybe I'm biased because like Candace I came up against illness, so her story's in between the yoga information was relatable for me.
I am by no means anything other than a little bit passed beginner, and a 46 year old who has dipped in and out of books and classes that never really hit the spot, or made me feel anything other than imperfect.
I have been enduring breast cancer, operations, chemo and now half way through radiotherapy, yoga by Candace on YouTube has allowed me to find ways even whilst sat in bed with no energy to find stretches and mental we'll being, this book is my bible and best friend whereby I can lose an hour when I'm down with anxiety and general cancer thoughts, her beginners sequences 1-5 leave me feeling better and grateful for the life I do have.
Probably sounds way too deep but this book is amazing at making yoga accessible for any of us that are insecure about our bodies and not overly flexible, Candace is their holding our hands telling us whatever pose you do what you achieve is enough don't beat yourself up.
For me right now that's so what I need to hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Positive, inspiring and personal, like Candace.

This book is a reflection of the honesty, optimism and hard work Candace brings to her practice. From Boston to Shimla, El Salvador to Cairo, I have relied on Candace's youtube videos for my practice. This book opens her up to her global community of students even more and squares away the training she so generously imparts to yoga practitioners new and seasoned. Brava...!
