Aside from the tracking and flashlight features, there are other features that make it worth it. You are able to see the places and destinations your cat explores (pictured above). As a curious cat owner, I found that to be an extremely cool feature. It also lets you know whenever your car escapes your "safe zone." Also, the battery absolutely does last the claimed 20 or so days (does not track/update quite as frequently when in the safe zone. This have proven to be non-problematic for me. Also seems to be quite responsive to once the cat leaves or enters the safe zone. I get a notification/alert within a minute of entering or leaving the zone) and has been problem free once it has been set up, which, is also extremely easy to do.
As you can see in the pictures, the tracker may seem bulky, however, this particular cat doesn't even know when its on and I have noticed no change in behavior with her wearing it. Lastly, I have tried other gps trackers and not a single one (gps mini, which was way too heavy & fitbark, worked inconsistently) and this is by far the most effective & best one. $100 is by no means cheap, however, the light up feature alone, in my eyes is worth it. If you are a cat or dog owner, I would think this is absolutely the best gps tracker on the market. Its also quite water resistant, which is perfect for my cat who adores water and finds a way to dip her gps tracker into her wet cat food. This feature makes it an easy clean with wet wipes. Anyways, hope this helps.

The whistle is a great idea and I do not believe there is anything better out there.
You can always put a Fitbit in their harness pay the $10 a month & you have real-time tracking
The Whistle has an accelerometer that with basic math does produce some fantastic data about your pet. I think this is a great feature of the product. That said, there are a few major flaws in it core task. Finding your pet.
The wifi safe zone is a great concept to save battery life. Reality technology has not evolved enough to bring this feature to market in a meaningful way at a price point that is digestible.
You can not make a safe zone small enough to cover the pet's actual safe zone. Most people don't live on a 1/2 acre or larger property. If the zone at its smallest size overlaps another address it will not let you save it. The biggest issue is that by the time the Whistle disconnects from the wifi to tell you your dog escaped my Pup was 1/2 mile away. Then by the time, it came back with a location, it was 1/2 mile from that location, supposed to be every 15 seconds. Not... At the End of the day, the pup came home in a Prime delivery vehicle, the Driver knew Dixby, he hopped right in the van and loved being co-pilot.
Whistle has done a great job and listened to their customers & announced a new feature to turn off the wifi so you can use the find my pet mode anytime. Realizing it drains the battery faster. That feature is not pushed to production as of today. I called tech support he did not even know what I was talking about. Searching their blog it is said to be available in the near future.
If that feature does make it live, it would make this the hands-down best you can get the product to keep tabs on your pet.
I do believe there is a market for PREMIUM cell network access. It might be calling the cell service every 15 seconds, but having it respond in 15 seconds I would pay another $1.99 a month.
If I were to make this purchase decision again, I would wait for the new FIND MY PET feature to be released.
The Reality is Amazon Prime driver found Dixby before Whistle. My Prime delivery guy is not a reliable dog tracker however the truth is he found him first & delivered him back home.
I have no intention of returning the Whistle or discontinuing the service I do find value in the product & when this rumored update happens it could absolutely be a 4 or 5-star product.

The Whistle unit has been fantastic. You can enter so much information about your dog. All the reports you get are helpful. Alerts are frequent depending upon the situation.
We are very happy with the units so far. We have only had them for one week, so can't speak to waterproof or long-term performance, but I expect the same high quality features in these areas as well.
We feel very comfortable having these units on our two dogs. Peace of mind!
When setting up the application, you will be required to select your pets "Safe Area". This is essentially useless since in reality the "Safe Area" for your pet is really your "Wi-Fi Perimeter". My Wi-Fi perimeter extends well beyond my property line which is a serious issue since I don't want my dog in my neighbors yards 2 to 3 properties down the road...especially since one of them does not like Dogs. I talked to support a couple of times about and they just said that this is how the device is programmed. Example: My daughter took the dog out for a walk yesterday in our Acreage subdivision. Testing this out, I finally got notified that he had left the property 0.5km down the road and 15 min later. Not good.
If this device is waterproof...Great. However, the charging port on the device is fully exposed. No cover or rubber cover at all. I honestly can't see how long this would last?
The battery cannot be replaced. Once the battery starts to fade, time to buy a new Whistle. The marketing pics show up to 20 days of battery life. You will not get anywhere near 20 Days with this device.
The collar attachments could have been engineered better and with more longevity in mind.
I am actually am sad to return it. The application was very cool and I really liked the fact that I could attach a device to my existing collar.
An alternative to this is the Tractive LTE GPS Dog Tracker. I have now tested both. The Tractive device tracks way better and the safe zone for your pet is actually an accurate safe zone....not your wifi perimeter like the Whistle Go Explore. The only con with the Tractive is that the safe zone's minimum size may or may not be too big for some folks. For us, it all worked out and this is the better device in my mind if your primary goal is tracking. As well, it is less than half the price! For the Tractive, you can get a one month subscription to try it out first.
