Finally with Matter and Thread!
After getting my Homey Bridge earlier this year, Homey Pro is the well-anticipated sequel. Excited that I can finally use the new Matter and Thread standards with my smart home gadgets. That was definitely something I was missing from the Bridge. Besides that the Pro uses the same app and I can use the flows I already created. Just now also with Matter devicse. Some devices are a little tricky bc they restrict other platforms from intergrating them. So far I have found a work around for everything but my smart blinds (still working on those).

First, the setup was very bad and took over 30 minutes and countless times for the homey app to connect to this device. I have a ton of different MFG smart home devices. Connecting APPs for each one is crazy but the worst part in one example is connecting to a 3nd party hub with 21 devices, homey once app added could see two out of 21. Apple home can see all 21, Google can see all 21 so this was first issue. Second is advance flow, the main reason I purchased this. While the website states a ton of info about Advanced Flow with PRO and is now free and part of the purchase, you get a simple non advanced flow on phone and as the website states you can use your mac or pc to create advance flow, you can't. This is just a mess for a user experience. I only tried to connect a few of my home devices and could not get anything working. I use shortcuts and they work perfectly but not a single simple FLOW worked. I get device is not connected error but it shows in the screen. After a few hours of wasted time, I returned to amazon. This is just a bad experience with a heavy price tag and in my case just did not work on anything I own.

Where to begin. I guess my first error was to have believed several of my favorite home automation Youtube influencers that are publicly stating that this is “the best” platform ever" or “I’m rebuilding my whole home based on this technology”, I call BS. Give me a break!

Let’s begin with how this “platform” goes to market, it is made up of internal codeheads aka their under paid employees, some outsourced talent and worst of all “the community”, which is a marketing term for "a person" working out of their home on a single product or family of products. That in itself is a major red flag for anyone looking to move to this so-called platform, why you ask? Well if that one guy decides to not continue development and many, many have quit then you a s*** out of luck. I am using a lot of Amazon and Amazon owned products, you know like eero, Echo, Ring, etc. and it’s supported by “the community”, Show 5, Show 8 and Echo Gen 5 have all been out for 6 months and are not supported as of right now…..

The next major issue I have is the BS that the hub is “local” yet a large percentage of the apps are cloud based…..wait what, yep their “no cloud” platform is cloud based! I am using cloud now but want to move to a local “matter like” platform.

My biggest, and I am not alone is that major brands that are not supported or do basic functions like “turn on and turn off”, come on guys. Govee, Ring, Tapo are industry leaders and Homey’s support is minimal and most of their products are not even supported.

Amazon I hate returning products but this one is coming back in the a.m. As for HomeLy, well I suggest you find a buyer with deep pockets before Apple, Amazon or Google eat your lunch. Great product idea, poorly executed.

Oh BTW lose the hype of "The world's most advanced smart home platform”, you not even close.

I was very nervous on spending a lot on this smart home hub. After seeing screenshots of its UI, I needed to have it. I loved the graphs and reports on how and when devices reported, like seeing how temperature measures throughout the day. I loved the way the smart phone app looked. It seemed very user friendly. I was, however, extremely disappointed by the lack of automations that you can create. Processes that seemed so simple, were not existent. I have over 200 smart home devices, and had I transferred everything over, I would have lost half of my automations. Some of the devices I did transfer were missing features that my previous systems had.
This may be a good for basic users who simply just use their phone to turn devices on and off. If you create a wide range of automations, I would steer far away, regardless of how simply and great the “flows” process looks. It is extremely limited and lackluster.

I purchased the Homey Pro and ethernet cable to replace my Smartthings hub that has always had lagging due to being cloud based. Specifically having an GE Enbrighten Z Wave switch telling a second identical switch to turn off or on. I was surprised that the lag time on this was just as prevalent as it is on Smartthings and it was in other applications I tried. On the plus side it was nice to be able to program on a computer vs always on a phone, however if you do you use Advanced Flows you cannot then edit it on your phone later rather you have to edit/change it back on a computer. I found this annoying and used Basic Flows instead so I could edit from both. They advertise that you can do a local backups, however it is so difficult that I opted for online backups which is a dollar per month subscription. Considering the price of this I expected it to surpass Smartthings, however I am sad to say it did not and I am returning it for that reason. My rating of 3 is because it works.
