First, I think that It's a pretty good looking bag; not typical of what camera bags normally look like. I bought it in black and I think it looks pretty stylish, yet is still fairly functional. Some people (and some other reviewers) may say that it looks a bit like a man purse or a "murse". I can see how some may think that, because it doesn't look like a typical camera bag....but on the other hand, that is a bit insecure. If you wear it on one shoulder, it probably would look a bit like a purse. If you wear it across your body, then it looks like a sling-style bag...which is exactly what this bag is marketed as. I'm a male, and I'm perfectly comfortable with how this bag looks, especially as I mostly wanted something that would be functional and not obviously look like a camera bag. I will be traveling with this bag and my camera in various areas of the world...some not as safe as others. I didn't want a bag that screamed to potential thieves, "Hey, there's probably an expensive camera and some gear in here! Come steal me!"
Now, speaking of the camera and gear...this is where there might be issues for some people using this bag. It's not actually that big. I am using it for a bridge camera, so it works pretty well, with some extra room to spare if I place it in the bag, lens down even with the divider in place in the camera compartment. With the divider removed, it will probably fit small DSLRs perfectly fine as well...however, larger DSLRs may have trouble fitting in the camera compartment of this bag. If you plan on carrying around a large DSLR, plus a few extra lenses, you probably will need to look into a different bag. If you are planning on using this with a bridge camera or a small DSLR though, then this bag should be good for you even with a decent amount of equipment. Here's what I'm using it for at the moment:
- Canon SX50HS, two extra batteries, the battery charger, a couple of memory cards, a filter case with room for three filters, a lens hood, and a Joby Gorilla Pod Hybrid.
Everything fits comfortably inside the bag, each with its own designated spot. I actually still have some room to spare on the inside of the bag, as since I use the camera compartment divider, I have room on the side of the compartment opposite of my camera. I'm not currently designating the outside pockets of the bag for anything in particular...I'll probably just use them for water bottles and/or loose non-camera related items while I'm out. Also, I have to note the the "cell phone" pocket in the bag (as many reviewers here are using it for) will not fit many newer smartphones. I never planned on using the pocket for my phone, so it's not a big deal for me (that's where I'm putting my battery charger); but it will not fit my Galaxy Nexus smartphone anyway. My phone has a 4.65 inch screen so it's on the larger size....other newer smartphones with large screens such as the Nexus 4, the Galaxy S3, the HTC One X, Droid DNA, etc, will not be able to fit in the "cell phone" pocket. Phones with smaller screens such as the iPhone 5 and older and/or smaller Android and Windows smartphones should probably be fine though. I think the pocket would have held my old phone with a 4.3 inch screen fine, but that probably would have been around the max limit....a phone with a screen larger than that most likely would not fit.
My only real gripe with the bag, is that it might be a little slow to get to my camera out if I want to take a quick shot of something. My old bag had the option to both zipper and Velcro the main compartment. Many times while traveling, I would leave the zipper undone and close the compartment with the Velcro; if the need for a quick and unexpected shot would occur...I could swiftly open the bag, pull my camera out, take the shot, put my camera back in, and securely Velcro the bag again. This was mostly useful is the above-mentioned areas of the world where I would not necessarily want to walk around with my camera in my hand at all times. Because this new bag has one, very long zipper running the length of the bag, it would be very difficult to achieve this routine fast enough to get a quick shot of something. It is a trade off that I made, but have not had the chance to test yet...hopefully it will not be too much of an issue going forward.
Overall, I really like this bag. It has plenty of room for my gear, yet it does not feel bulky or cumbersome at all. It looks good and seems like it is well-made; I expect that it will hold up for quite a few years. If you have a bridge camera or a small DSLR and are looking for a camera bag, that doesn't necessarily look like a camera bag, then this might be the perfect bag for you. I highly recommend it.
I have lng been looking for a stylish and functional camera bag to use for day trips. The price was right in this one and when I got it, it didn't disappoint. Having a larger chest, I often struggle finding a bag I can wear cross body. This fits very well and is comfortable. The strap is easy to adjust for length and even has a convenient way to store the "extra" strap material when you shorten it.
The bag is great to carry my camera with a lens in and then an extra lens if I need it. Or you can carry a flash. The small Velcro pocket on the side of the camera is perfect to carry an extra card. There are also two small pockets on the bag itself for easy to grab items. In one pocket I kept my iPhone and the cards I needed (ID, debit, pass) and the other was good for my extra battery, but could be used for something else. In the remaining space I safe
Y kept my sunscreen with no worries that it would get crushed and make a mess. Toss in my keys and I was good to go! Oh, but wait, one more thing...my cup! My day trips right now mostly are to the zoo or other such parks that have souvenir cups (large than water bottles) and I was afraid it would be too large for the water bottle pocket, but it fit great! I didn't worry at all about it falling out and, while snug, it was still easy to slide in and out to use. The other side pockets are great to slide a map for the day or other items like that. I wouldn't put valuables in there for fear of them sliding out, but there is a huge zippered chamber for that!
There are a few great things that make this bag stand out: first, the pockets on the outside are on both sides making this bag comfortable and practical to wear on either side of the body. Second, the zipper has two pulse in it making it practical to use in either side, too. Additionally, I found that I could leave the zipper half closed so I could easily pull the camera out while still "protecting" (not exposing) my other valuables without having to mess with the zipper every time I wanted to pull out or place in the camera as I used it. Third, and somewhat already addressed, is that it can be used in either side of the body. Being left handed it isn't always easy for me to find a bag that works the way that I like and am comfortable with as I have to accommodate for right handed ways. That's not the case here, this bag caters to both sides.
The only thing I would possibly mark down for is that I would lie to see a hook of some sort just inside to hang my keys on. I'll probably sew my own hook in, but that's just my preference. I had to "dig out" my keys and I would like easier access to them, but with everything else this bag has to offer, that is small. So small it's not even worth dropping to 4 stars. Maybe a quarter of a star, but that's it! I love this bag!
Update: I have now used it for more than two months and love it even more! I didn't think I would love the outside pockets but they are great to slide in a folded Mao or slip of paper that I need to access frequently during a shoot. It is so easy to reach in and grab what I need and I have fell into a great system in using the pockets (what goes in each one) and absolutely love the pocket up front for water bottles/cups. My refillable souvenir cups from amusement parks fit perfectly in them and stay steady. I carried a 3/4 full cup in one and was nervous that it would spill over, but not a drop and it stayed secure while still easy enough to remove and put back. The extra space is the perfect size to store my sunscreen, glasses case, and an extra water bottle when zipped for the smaller storage. Unzipped, I can drop my iPad in there, too! The are so many good things about this bag!
