I have had other Hitachi power tools and they have always served me well, so I felt confident this saw would to. I have had the miter saw for a few months now, and I was right. This saw is a work horse. It cuts precise, clean cuts. The knob to adjust the cutting angle "clicks" in at certain angles to you can feel confident that your cut will be dead on.
The blade it comes with works fine for ruff cuts, but you will definitely want to purchase a better blade if you plan to use the saw a lot or need cleaner cuts. When I was looking for a miter saw I didn't think I cared too much about the laser. Now that I have it, I never want to go back! It makes cutting jobs so much quicker and more precise. The only downfall to this saw (and it is true of all laser tools) the laser is useless outdoors in the sun. You don't have to use the laser if you don't want to, as there is an on/off switch for it.
The saw is not super light at almost 40lbs, so don't expect to use this as a portable saw to carry around a lot. All-in-all this saw has been fantastic. It is built extremely well, is simple to use, and makes great compound miter cuts. Would definitely buy it again, and recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a saw.
Only a few minor complaints.
1. Miter angle plate for the horizontal rotation looks\feels a tad flimsy. Like it is really thin material. However it does not take away from the accuracty. It is dead on.
2. Laser angle is a bit odd. I thinik if the laser was mounted higher it would work better for showing cut on trim that is 4" or higher with less squint. For example if I cut a 4" piece of trim flat the laser is clearly visable even in bright light, but if I cut the same piece tall against the fence the display alont the top is not a clearly visable... I found myself using my hand to shade and make more visable.
Other than those two things... Saw is light, accurate like a freaking scapel. Highly reccomend this tool.
I got on Amazon and started product research. I landed on the Hitachi 15 Amp 10 inch saw, because A.) I read it was great for beginners. B.) It is one of the lighter and most portable miter saws. C.) I also read it came equipped with a laser and a dust bag. Checkkkkk???? C. Is the reason why my review will be minus a star. Please keep reading.
My son assembled the miter saw in about an hour. He found the included instructions useless, but per my advice he finally YouTubed it. That’s when he got somewhere. I cannot emphasize how EASY it is to run this saw. I set the angle at 0 degrees and nearly out of the box was ready to chop wood. I am including a photograph or two. One photo is of boards for my signs I ended up not only measuring/marking, but also cutting with this saw in just two hours. I did this without reading instructions and with no prior experience. There was not a learning curve. If I can figure it out, you can too. The boards that I have cut in the photograph are almost all 15 or 16 inches. They came from 6-8 feel pieces of lumber. In that two hours, I also managed to set up my portable workspace, tear it down and put together a few signs in those two hours. The second photograph also took a couple hours of measuring and cutting. It’s a pretty big box of children’s blocks yet to be sanded and painted. This saw works very efficiently with just a couple things that could be improved.
I also purchased a Worx (WX501) Worktable and Sawhorse to pair the saw with. They work well together. What doesn’t work so well on this miter saw, hence my four star review are two things: the laser and the dust collector. The laser is almost useless in the sun. It doesn’t show up. It is also useless with any sawdust accumulation which happens very easily. The dust catcher on this saw is nearly useless. I may have to experiment a bit to see if I can find an extra tough rubberband or a shoelace, or something along those lines, where the dust catcher can be secured a little more firmly to the unit. For now I used a leaf blower to remove the sawdust off my temporary workspace (the deck).
Time will tell if this miter saw holds up. It definitely is not a DeWalt as in I didn’t pay nearly as much. But, right now, as a true beginner, I’m more than happy with my beginners’ saw. I’m also learning once you have one saw, you start learning you need other saws. I am only a couple days into woodworking. If things should change I will most certainly update you. But, at this point I would buy this miter saw again.
Eight months later update: I’m having issues with the saw not cutting straight. We’ve tried adjusting the fences. The saw blade is as level as they come. We can’t figure it out. I remember reading other issues-with time-people noticed drifting issues, crooked cuts. Well, it’s happening to me. I’m online as we speak trying to get warranty info from Hitachi. This is after two days of watching every YouTube video under the sun, and trying every suggested fix under the sun with no luck. Otherwise, it had been (past tense) an awesome first saw. We’ll see what happens with Hitachi.

Workhorse unit, great price, doesn't take up much space.
Bad:
Dust catcher really does nothing, so use it outside, or plan ahead for dust on everything.
Laser has to be readjusted almost every use. I stopped relying on it when I need accurate cuts.
