4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 49 ratings

This Christmas, can she finally leave the past behind?

Each year, creating the magical Christmas display at Johnson’s Independent Bookstore gets Kayleigh Johnson through the holidays. Staying busy to the point of exhaustion, she avoids the harsh reality that she is spending another Christmas alone. But when an inspector from the local council arrives late one snowy afternoon, her carefully controlled world is turned upside down once more.

Jo Pearmain is determined to do things by the book. Being a health and safety officer is hardly her dream job, but it’s one she needs to keep. Little does she know that as she closes down the bookstore Christmas display, she is destroying the small sliver of hope and happiness Kayleigh has left.

When she realises what she’s done, Jo’s determined to put it right, but Kayleigh is slow to forgive. The harder she works to fix things, the further Kayleigh pushes her away.

Can Jo convince Kayleigh they must work together to save Christmas for the village?
And if she can, they might even save each other…

Happily Ever After This Christmas is a heartwarming romance about overcoming adversity and rediscovering the miracle of Christmas.

C.K. Martin is a British writer of mostly - but not exclusively - lesbian fiction. She loves writing character-driven stories, so you’ll find her books in the romance, crime, thriller and fantasy genres. She believes that realistic, diverse and engaging characters shouldn’t come at the expense of great plots - readers deserve to have both. If you enjoy her characters in one genre, then you'll find similar heroines in the others if you feel like branching out. Discover detectives, vampires, gangsters and runaways, all looking for their happy ending.

When she’s not writing, she can usually be found with her nose in a book (or pressed against the Kindle screen). Her third biggest passion in life is travel, so although she’s based in England, for much of the year you won’t find her there. Instead she’ll be hanging out with her wife in some amazing city or, more likely, at the beach.

Kayleigh owns the family's village bookstore and has custody of her six year old niece Emily whose parents were killed in an auto accident a couple of years before. Emily was severely injured which required one of her legs to be amputated. Each year, Kayleigh holds a fundraiser at the bookstore to help children like Emily with their medical bills.

Jo has come home to help her father who now needs a wheelchair. She found a job as a public health and safety officer. Upon inspection of the bookstore, she has found too many things not up to code; therefore, closing down the Christmas display and any chance for the much needed fundraiser.

Watching these women move from antagonists to finding happiness with each other was a heartfelt journey filled with love from young Emily and the great secondary characters. I do wish it had an epilogue because the main characters really didn't get together until the very last moment. I hope CK will write a sequel!

Kayleigh owns the village bookstore along with a her niece Emily, who by the way was very young when her parents were killed in a car accident. Both Kayleigh and Emily are struggling with the anniversity of the accident three years ago. Leaving Emily with one good leg and a prosthesis leg. Both of them struggling to accept what life has given them. Kayleigh has no time to fall in love, even though the safety and health officer Jo , is so damn beautiful. Jo is trying her best to persuade Kayleigh along with Kayleigh best friend Rob and Jo is getting feedback from her father who uses a wheelchair to get around. That love knows no boundaries and it is getting so damn frustrating sleeping alone for the both of them. Enjoy!

Life doesn't always go as planned and this certainly applies to Kayleigh. She takes care of Emily and wants what is best for her. Kayleigh focuses all her energy on Emily and she has built her life so carefully that fallen in love is a road she doesn’t want to travel. It brings only complications. Happily ever after this Christmas is an enjoyable read but I really miss an epilogue. Overall a great book for reading at Christmas time.

It would have been nice if you would have labeled this book a Lesbian romance. I will not read it. All I wanted was a normal good old fashioned Christmas book to read. Non progressive! I wish I could return it!

Sweet, sweet story. Kayleigh just had a lot on her plate and no time for romance. Jo just did her job but felt pulled toward Kayleigh and her niece, Emily. How they work out their situations is what makes the story. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. The only thing that could have made it better was if it had an epilogue. Maybe there will be more to the story in the future.

I really enjoyed this read...i dont know if its because its the holiday or what but this one kept me reading. I will say I wish it kept going...maybe one or two more chapters or maybe we will get lucky and the author will write another story involving Kayleigh, Jo, and Emiliy. Maddy was a hoot too and really loved the interaction between her and Jo. I know I'm not giving much details about tue book but the book blurb does a good enough job. Free on kindleUnlimited and a happy holiday read.

Very sweet romance with some bits of personal tragedy and lighthearted moments mixed in as well. I'm also happy to read a lesbian romance that doesn't find the characters in opposition to Christian traditions, going so far as bringing up God in a somewhat tragicomic scene where the romance part probably hits its strongest notes. Of course, being a Christmas romance is kind of a clue that religious holidays and observances might not be the enemy... but I was glad to read it nonetheless.
