However, once assembled, this trap is spectacular. It's solid, stays still (the front end has spikes to those into the ground), and fires high, fast, and true. There are four elevation settings, we used the second highest setting for a nice high, long arc. You can tighten the spring for a more powerful throw, though that does make the trigger a little harder to press. At a tighter setting, the guys had no trouble, but a 115 lb. girl had to stand up with all her weight in order to fire off the trap. But again this was due to us cranking up the power pretty far. The trap also seems very safe, as there is no tension when it is cocked, the tension is only applied while you are standing on it to fire it off.
We shot off about 120 clays in one sitting during which there were very high winds, and each clay sailed straight and true. We'll never go back to hand throwers again!
One note: the instructions state that you can throw two clays, but you really can't at any useful angle. The clip is only long enough to hold one in place. I believe if you use the lowest possible angle, a second clay would stay in place, but we have not tried the lowest angle yet - I'm not sure it would get very good height unless it was fired off from higher ground.
Used this product occasionally over the past five years. It currently missing some parts but overall it still works adequately. I probably used this device on average 4 times a year. It occasionally makes anemic throws. The clays needs to be placed properly and the chain seated correctly but after using the device a few times you should be familiar on what works and what doesn't. It isn't perfect but for under $100, a pretty good deal for a cheap trap thrower that you can use by yourself. I have purchased a ~$300 cheap electric thrower (Do-All Aerial Assault). The Trius One Step gets much more use. When you the get the electronic thrower to work, it is pretty amazing. When it doesn't, you just wasted your time and effort to get that stupid heavy hunk of junk to the trap fields. If you do get an electric thrower, spend the money on a better quality machine But until then, stick to the Trius One Step. It is pretty easy to maintain and cheap to replace.
[September 2011]
I just got into the sport of trap shooting and I got this based on the solid reviews this device got compared to others offered on Amazon. Seems to be pretty solid, very easy to use, and was at a very good price when I got it (~$90). Only had it for a week which only included one outing so I can't really judge the durability. But I wrote this review to mention one thing. The instructions are poor. Took me under two hours (granted I only had one wrench and it needed two, I had to improvise) and the second half of the directions were pretty much useless but looking at the picture on the box was able to get me through the last half. With better instructions and the proper tools, I should have finished it tops 30 minutes. So I will just knock off one star due to the manual. For those who want to know before buying, it is made in China.

Cocking it is a one finger operation. Load a clay and then there's no tension until you press the foot pedal. The pedal both tensions the main spring and then releases the throwing arm near the bottom of the pedal range. If you lift your foot off before the clay is released it goes back to unstressed and safe again.
