Product Description
ZenBook 15 heralds a new era of ultraportable design, with an ultracompact, ultralight chassis. Featuring the four-sided NanoEdge display, ZenBook 15 is 12% smaller than the previous generation ZenBook 15 (UX530) and weighs only 3.6 lbs The new ScreenPad 2.0 upgrades the traditional laptop experience, adding an interactive secondary touchscreen that enhances your productivity and gives you endless possibilities. Its intuitive smartphone-like interface lets you easily manage tasks and create your own seamless multitasking workflow. There’s a series of handy ASUS utility apps to boost productivity including Quick Key — for one-tap automation of complex keyboard sequences — along with Handwriting, Number Key, Doc Xpert, Slide Xpert and Sheet Xpert. ScreenPad 2.0 intelligently fits many apps into the 5.65-inch touchscreen, and you can effortlessly add apps to ScreenPad for instant access. The newly-optimized ScreenPad experience ensures that your favorite apps, such as Evernote and Spotify, will work perfectly on this secondary display right away, without the need for a ScreenPad-specific version. ASUS also works closely with third party developers, including video-editing software developer Corel, to optimize adaptive ScreenPad tools for the ultimate productivity — and there’s much more to come. The actual transfer speed of USB 3.0, 3.1 (Gen 1 and 2), and/or Type-C will vary depending on many factors including the processing speed of the host device, file attributes and other factors related to system configuration and your operating environment.

BEST FEATURES
- 4K UHD Screen. To be honest, I didn't know what this was (like I said, I was running a machine from 2013). I've never cared much for fancy screens when it came to phones or TVs, so I didn't think I would care about this, either. But straight out of the box, this screen is gorgeous. Everything is just so much clearer. You go back to looking at another screen, and you can't help thinking, "How did I ever look at THAT?" It makes everything you do on the computer much more pleasant to see. (Note: It's glossy, not matte, which I thought would bother me, coming from a matte screen. Indoors, I hardly notice, and the incredible 4K display makes it feel worth it. Outdoors, though -- yeah. You can't see anything in direct sunlight.)
- SSD speed. Task manager says the SSD is a Samsung MZVLQ512HALU-00000, and it's really freaking fast. (Note: I was a little anxious that 512GB might not be big enough, so I bough an external 512GB drive, and that's definitely the move. With the fast USB-C connection, and the tiny size (and light weight) of external SSDs, it's easy to pop one in and double your storage capacity whenever you need it.)
- Weight. This is lighter than I realized; I can comfortable carry it around in one hand supporting the base, screen open, while walking from room to room. It's no feather, but I it came in under what I anticipated.
- Screenpad. It's obviously a gimmick. I hardly use it. But it's still really cool. And I have found a use for it in watching software tutorial videos; you can put the video on the screenpad while you follow along full-screen in the software environment.
WORST FEATURES
- No Ethernet port. I knew that going in, although I was hoping it would come with an adapter (it didn't; I bought one). It's a shame, but not a deal-breaker.
- Adapter/charger. This is actually better than the one that came standard with my last ZenBook, so thanks, Asus, for stepping up your game -- but it's still inferior to off-market adapters, simply in that the cables are too short. Give us longer cables, so we don't need to sit near an outlet! (Fortunately, these are easy to buy.)
- Color choices. Don't get me wrong, the machine is pretty. Still, the rose-gold is -- an odd accent choice. I probably would've preferred straight silver. And more seriously, the keyboard keys don't have enough contrast in color between the letters themselves and the key. The keys are a light silver, the writing is also silver -- or transparent? The backlight shines through beautifully, so that's great, but in normal lighting, these colors are very close, and harder to see. You'll just have to get close to your keyboard, or type without looking.
- Power button. The power button is a keyboard button, sitting in the number pad region of the screen. That seems like a bad idea. I haven't accidentally hit it yet, but it's coming.
- Slimmed down number pad. It's awesome that they managed to pack a 15.6" screen into a smaller chassis, largely by minimizing the space between the screen and the edge of the laptop. But that means a smaller keyboard. This laptop offers a number pad, but they made sacrifices -- so there's no dedicate home, end, pageup, or pagedown keys. I never realized how often I use them to skip along lines of text, until they were gone. You can get at some of these strokes with with SHIFT+NUMPAD combinations, but there are limitations. Also, those up/down arrows are tiny (though that hasn't bothered me, yet).
- Numlock. The key doesn't have an indicator light. This makes zero sense. Asus managed to put indicator lights on caps lock, power, and their freaking "fn" key. It would've take two seconds to add a light to the numlock. I think they just forgot? So now I never know when it's off/on.
OTHER NOTES
- Sound is fine (stronger than my last machine).
- USB-C + 2xUSB is more than enough ports.
- The F12 "Asus" button is silly. Bring back the FN airplane mode toggle.
Overall, I love the machine. It's a big step up from those of us living in 2013, and it's surprisingly light and fast (as long as, like, you know you're not buying a Chromebook). But mostly, have I mentioned the screen?
Battery. I is gorgeous. Laptop works many hours unplugged, depends on screen brightness and loads. But if you just surf Web, you can spend half-day on the battery. Nice!
Weight is super light, however frame is rigid enough, you can open screen with one hand like on MacBooks. All is made of aluminum.
I do like keyboard, except of small up&down arrows.
ScreenPad is a nice addition, however I keep it off and use just as a regular touchpad.
I changed SSD to Samsung Evo Plus 1Tb. I was impressed by built quality inside. It was not difficult to open, so it is easy to service laptop, if needed. But unfortunately it is not possible to add RAM. Also there are no extra SATA or M.2 ports available for extra storage. But this is because of super small and lightweight design of laptop which is a better thing. Also you have 2 USB, but they managed to insert extra one type-c, which I use for USB flashcard.
Also i should mention that laptop gets quite hot during higher loads. Noise gets noticeable too.
I bought this after going down a one month rabbit hole of computer comparisons.
I wanted something with a screen comparable to a Mac's, a decent gaming graphics card, and very little audio latency.
After looking at the XPS models, high end Lenovo creator laptops, the new ACER concept D series, Razer Blades, reconsidering exorbitantly expensive Macbook Pros, and looking all up and down the MSI gaming lines, it was this computer that checked all the boxes.
This Asus has a color gamut and brightness comparable to pre retina Macbook Pro's, with a resolution that goes beyond contemporary Macs. The screen is beautiful. Color accuracy does fall short of contemporary Macbook Pros, but not by much. Comparing it to my Ipad Air (2020) the screen is comparably colorful and clear, with extreme resolution on high pixel dense photos. This will work for a designer or illustrator wanting to step away from Mac.
I'm not a high end gamer. But in "Seven Days to Die" (a pretty poorly optimized game) this computer runs smooth and beautiful without downgrading from 4k resolution. Dishonored 2 is fluid and beautiful on high settings. Four stars because you can obviously get something far more powerful. But I do think for the average user this computer is (very good) for gaming.
I have not done much with audio in the last week (so have to get back to the review on this one), but haven't read anything about audio problems with this laptop. This is a real leg up as both the Dell XPS and Lenovo creator series have persistent audio latency issues.
The Speakers are good for laptop speakers, leagues beyond my last Asus from 8 years ago.
The Keyboard is comfy for typing and includes a Num Pad - useful for Blender.
Feels very sturdily built as compared to my last Asus.
-- --
Negatives..
The second screen on the trackpad doesnt feel like a useful feature. I havent wanted it on yet. There may be some future application for it, but so far its a bit of a gimmick. If I had my druthers, the trackpad would just be a trackpad and the hard drive would be bigger. Otherwise trackpad is responsive.
It's only a quad core processor. 2020 Macs are 8 core. XPS and Lenovo Creators are 6 core. The quad core processor is a step down. This seems to be the reason for this computer having a lower price point. However the fact that this computer does have 16g of ram for so much less money does counterbalance this in my book. It still feels blazing fast.
-- --
Final thoughts.
This Asus is a fantastic alternative to much more expensive "Creator Laptops." An XPS or Lenovo Creator laptop with similar features and 16g of ram would cost hundreds of dollars more and still come with audio latency issues with no work around. The 4core processor is a shame, but i havent felt it yet. The computer is very fast. The trackpad issue is irrelevant since the laptop is still fantastic value. My last Asus has lasted 8 years and is still going.
Buy it. Its a great laptop.

Very good product, it worked perfect, the only bad thing is that it heats up when the video card is activated, but it is to be expected, so it is necessary to use a base with a fan.
Reviewed in Mexico on June 21, 2021
Very good product, it worked perfect, the only bad thing is that it heats up when the video card is activated, but it is to be expected, so it is necessary to use a base with a fan.
- better screen. 4K, a bit brighter, noticeably more crispy. Good colors even without calibration
- great CPU performance for an ultrabook. Takes on everyday tasks with ease.
- surprisingly good keyboard. Soft, but precise, and bright enough backlight. Font is a bit washed-out as while letters on silver buttons is not a good choice, but I don't look at the keyboard when typing, so that's a passing score.
- Touchpad... is OK. Precise, no loud click sound, but that gimmicky touchscreen is a feature I've turned off right away. Windows gestures work fine, size is good, what's more to ask?
- Numeric keypad is a great bonus as I work a lot with numbers. It's really smart they've made keys a bit narrower, so that keeps entire laptop size down.
- VERY QUIET!!! Despite being dual fan, even under full load, this thing is quiet and there's no high-pitch noise like on some other ultrabooks.
- Speaking of high-pitch noise - no coil whining noticed either. Another good thing.
- IT HAS ALL PORTS!!! I can't overstate how important that is to have all the ports right there. No dongles, no weird latches to open USB ports, just normal USB ports where USB-C comes along with, not instead of, rectangular USB ports.
- Blazing fast WiFi. I don't have WiFi6 router, but this laptop is faster than my MBP and I've got every bit of performance from my WiFi5 AC router. My channel to IPS is the bottleneck, not the laptop's wifi card.
- Discrete graphics. 1650 Max-Q in a laptop THIS thin a light is awesome! Of cause there are faster graphics cards in laptops twice as heavy and thick, and with a power brick as heavy as another laptop. The point here that you don't sacrifice mobility even a bit, while packing decent gaming performance on the go.
- Speaking of power adapter - this one has a very good looking, compact and light power brick, smaller than I expected. Very good for travel.
- Battery life - better than expected for a 4K screen. Probably because it's non-touch (which is OK for me as I'm switching from a non-touch MBP anyway).
Overall, I'm totally happy with this laptop, not a single flaw. Some things could be a bit better, but none of that is a deal breaker. I would buy it again and would recommend to friends, as a fantastic ultrabook, packed with features and for a reasonable price.
On a separate note, Amazon Prime delivery was beyond awesome: placed order late Saturday night, got the laptop delivered next day on Sun at 10:35am, and that is despite all the fuss about quarantine. Kudos to Amazon and delivery company!
