Our newly-designed 8" down-firing wireless subwoofer delivers tight, room shaking low frequencies that enhances the impact of your home theater. Bass effects are fired onto the floor surface and distributed equally in all directions across the entire room for maximum immersiveness.

Initial thoughts.Nakamichi was exceptional, initiating contact the moment I placed the order. Making no assumptions about my level of expertise, Nakamichi sent an e-mail with step-by-step instructions for obtaining the best results. That's rare from any company and a welcome and encouraging sign of a company that cares about its products and its customers.The boxWhile large, the reason for this became apparent as i opened the box. I ordered the 7.1.4. The company's box was constructed to also hold the 7.2.4 (two subwoofers). Instead of the second space being empty, there was a box in place of the subwoofer. This made clear a few things. The company understands the significant cost savings of designing a single rectangular box that will support and protect the two different configurations; and that the shape of box used (not that oddly-shaped box that outlines the subwoofer that some companies use) is far better protection for what is inside. Again, A+.Quality of Parts (Initial observation)The soundbar was solid without being overbearing. The soundbar and subwoofer (more substantial than I expected) are attractive. The satellites are better than I ordinarily see. Everything was of good build without any damage.Physical Set-upNo matter what you think you know, follow the directions - step by step. By doing so, the subwoofer instantly paired with the soundbar. My only issue (slight) is that the power connect (a transformer brick) easily disconnects from the soundbar. If you have moving parts behind the soundbar (for instance, a tv on a swivel stand), tape or Velcro down the power connect plug so it does not accidentally pull out of the back of the bar.Device Set-upAgain, pay attention to the instruction. In fact, read through them first (maybe a couple of times) before starting.I wanted to enjoy Dolby Atmos where available and the best passed-through sound otherwise. There is a big difference between what is passed from the tv to the soundbar depending on (a) the connection; and (b) the capability of the tv.For best results, use HDMI. For best results, use the HDMI/ARC connect. BUT, that will not mean what is passed from the TV to the soundbar is every sound format.I have a 2018 LG OLED. It has ARC but not e-ARC (available in newer models). So, if I am watching a channel broadcasted/streamed with Atmos and I switch to the soundbar, the Atmos disappears. That's not the soundbar's issue. That's my TV not passing through the signal.So the solution is to connect a device to the other HDMI input; in my case this was the Apple 4K (not a plug for Apple in this review but it seems to support most sound formats in each of the services).Something to note is that there will be a very short dropout as you switch devices or channels with different sound formats as the soundbar adjusts to the signal. I have no issue with this at all.Sound - Out of the BoxThe soundbar replaced a "real" 7.1.4 system with overhead speakers, a Yamaha receiver, and large center/front channel speakers and a subwoofer that was large enough to incur my wife's wrath. I haven't performed a custom configuration of the sound yet and may add to the review. But out-of-the-box performance was excellent with news and movies. This weekend, I'll know how it handles broadcast sports.The device instantly recognized DTS and Dolby. Using the Apple was no problem at all and the ATMOS has been passed through in all its splendor.Remote/Integrated ControlNeedless to say, having the LG, soundbar, Apple, Xbox (for Blu-rays as well as games) and DirecTV has led to a nice collection of remotes. Fortunately, the CEC works perfectly, meaning I could put all of the remotes away but the one for the TV. That's really a plug for LG that did a good job building in peripheral recognition. Power-on and device select works perfectly. The remote will turn on the appropriate device. The Nakamichi always turns on because... well... that's really the best option over even nearly adequate internal speakers! But don't lose the remote that is still needed for sound customization and subwoofer volume control. But otherwise, i haven't picked it up even a few times since the controls used most frequently are available on the TV's remote.Overall ImpressionsAt 749, a great value. On sale at 649, a fantastic value. So much so, I purchased a second soundbar for another room.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Sound - Tricky Interface
Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2021
&&&UPDATE&&&&

Nakamichi proactively reached out to me to solve my issues. Alberto in their tech support traded emails with me to set up a time; then called me to patiently help me out. Turns out I needed to connect ROKU HDMI to the sound-bar and HDMI FIOS to the TV, then with the ARC HDMI between TV and sound-bar shifting input sources takes a few button pushes but now seems to work fine. I must confess I never thought of or tried this connection combination; in my defense this rig doesn’t seem to be in the instruction manual. Alberto was very kind/professional and generously took the time to explain the technical basis for my needed connection setup (a content protection handshake, implemented differently by different hardware components manufacturers).

I always felt the sound quality was spectacular, now that the interfaces seem to be working with this connection scheme I am raising my review. Based on my technical knowledge of HDMI interface challenges and Nakamichi’s support that Alberto expertly provided, I’m going all the way since the sound-bar is now a valued part of my setup.

&&&&&&&&&&&&
I really wanted to like this product. Sound quality/depth is excellent and the spatial effects spectacular. BUT (don’t you hate that words see) the interface to my TV and sources has been nothing but trouble. I’ve tried every possible method of connection with no joy. I have a late model, top-line Samsung TV and FIOS/ROKU input. Pretty standard stuff. When I connect sources to sound bar & sound bar to TV using ARC the system fails to start over half the time and I have to go through an elaborate reset (~ 15 button pushes) to get it going. Then the dang thing randomly hangs during use. When I connect sources to the TV & TV to sound bar using ARC the sound is delayed so much that the lip synch mis-match drives you crazy. Instructions recommend using the second method for Samsung vice the preferred first method, implying to me they know the interface doesn’t work right. Using optical cable and the audio delay setting on TV and sound bar has no effect. I’ve updated firmware soon as issued.

Yesterday I finally gave up, and went back to just using my TV speakers. I guess I’ll keep it in hopes a future firmware update “fixes” it. Looks & smells like a $800 pile of junk to me. Perhaps one good thing is my wife rarely used my rig because she couldn’t fathom the 15+ button push!
