So that's one thing that turned me on because I do use multiple tunings" Cj Pierce, Drowning Pool.

When I first read about the Roadie 2, I was dubious. A tuner you can actually place over the tuning pegs of your guitar and it will tune the instrument? It sounded bizarre, but I was intrigued -- and so I ordered it.
When it arrived, I took it into my home studio. After charging it, I figured I'd try it on my acoustic six-string. It was an odd feeling watching the little key device turn the pegs on my guitar. However, the guitar was perfectly in tune.
I then tried it on my six-string electric -- and it worked perfectly again. After a couple of hours playing, the guitar had gone slightly out of tune. I figured I'd use my regular digital tuner clipped to my headstock. I tuned using this, then hit a chord. There was a string slightly out of tune -- which as most guitarists know is as bad as an instrument completely out of tune. But, the digital tuner showed that things were all tuned up. So, I decided to use the Roadie again. After having it adjust the tuning, I strummed a chord -- everything was perfect. I realized that when I would use my digital tuner, I'd have to do some "fine tuning" by ear afterwards. Not so with the Roadie.
A month ago I received my twelve-string Danelectro electric guitar. I was eager to try out the Roadie -- especially since I really didn't have a clue as to how to tune a twelve-string. (I've played six-strings for thirty years -- this was my first twelve-string.)
After the simple matter of clicking in my Roadie 2 for a twelve-string, I started my tuning. It worked great. Frankly, there's no way I would even attempt to use my digital tuner for the twelve-string.
I know that one can dial in any number of open tunings on the Roadie 2 -- I haven't yet used that feature because I've not really played with open tunings in the past. But, I'm looking forward to doing so.
One review I've read talked about the Roadie drastically detuning the string while tuning. This only happens if you choose the wrong string to tune vis a vis what the Roadie is set to. Yes, I've done it -- but it's been my fault. All you need to do is keep checking the screen of the Roadie to ensure that you've got the tuner on the correct string.
I've read another review saying that their Roadie stopped working after a short while. I can't speak for that person, of course, but I've been using my Roadie almost every day for two months and haven't had a problem.
How this works I haven't a clue. I'm not a tech person -- so to me it seems like I've invited a guitar tech into my home to take care of tuning up my equipment.
I've seen that the Roadie 3 has just become available. I've placed my order, and I've been told by Band Industries that it should be arriving by the end of the week. I can't see how it can improve on the tuning experience of Roadie 2 -- but I'm looking forward to the full-color display and other goodies.
I assume that this is a small company -- but I'm incredibly impressed with the communication and transparency that they've shown in the ordering and shipping process for the Roadie 3.
I really don't write a lot of reviews on Amazon -- except when things are amazingly great or horribly bad. Please be assured that in this case, it's because the Roadie 2 is amazingly great.
I put Ukulele and Classical Guitar on the list. Then I turned the Roadie 2 on, select the instrument by rotating the dial, then press the button and the string notes comes up. D3 G3 B3 E4 (Baritone Ukulele) Then mount the Roadie 2 on the indicated string (D3) and pluck the string. Keep plucking while it is thinking and rotating back and forth. Seconds later a green light comes on, a vibration occurs and a white flash happens with a sound and it is done with the string. Move to the next note/string. Or if it can't tune the string or thinks you are on the wrong string, it flashes RED and stops. It is usually correct. It will stop and turn RED if it can't get the precise note. The tuning is very good. Tune your instrument twice since the neck bends a little from tuning it the first time. This instrument is FUN to use. I tuned up 5 instruments in about 7 minutes. It is recharged by USB connecter. My only regret is not having more instruments to tune. LOL.
What I like
- Tuner works well once a selection is made
- Provides accurate tuning for great sounding instruments
- Menus are pretty straight forward logical
- Good variety of instruments
- Played with alternate tuning a little and they work well
What I don't like:
- Scroll wheel jumps around, making selection difficult
- During tuning the string selection jumps, landing on a different string than desired
- String winder is pretty slow (not major, but noted)
Would like to do more, but the selection process is just too frustrating! I have reached out to customer service. Will update after the results settle out.

Got a reply from them today. Told me how to update firmware (used Roadie app). Update was pushed from phone to tuner. Scroll wheel on tuner is WAY better now. Occasional pause or over-scroll, but nothing like it was. Going to add a star for customer service and tuner behavior. Will check it out more thoroughly over the next week or so. Also found more alternate tunings in the app. Download and pushed to the tuner. Will be trying them too!
For $130 it seems a little expensive but I hadn’t played my 12 strings in years because they took so long to tune. The Roadie tunes a 12 string quickly and accurately. When you consider the sophistication of the machine it is amazing. From the photos you can see some of the options. When you add an instrument you can name it and describe it so if it is a 12 string it will be set up the way you want it. A 6 string tuned to a capo or any of the options are remembered. Especially handy if you use a guitar for a single song with custom tuning or want to quickly change the tuning between songs. Once the guitar is close to in-tune it is very fast to tweak the tuning.
I think it’s a good value for the money just not a great value. It’s the only tuner I use now that I’m used to it. I would buy it again.
If it doesn’t work out of the box swear at it, then lock it in a dark drawer for a few weeks and it will come out willing to work perfectly. They respond very well to meanness.
It broke my heart the first day. Then it definitely grew on me.
I think I may write a C&W song about it.
