Although you will need to get used to specific controls with buttons, as this watch do not have touchscreen.
I like titanium and sapphire glass - not a single scratch even if I tend to hit doors/walls with my watch. Orange silicone strap I already replaced to new one - least durable part, but was it is pretty cheap from aliexpress and quality is nearly identical to original.
1- Garmin Vivosmart - gen1
2- Garmin Vivosmart HR - gen1
3- Samsung Gear Fit - gen1
4- Samsung Gear S2
5- Garmin Fenix 3HR Sapphire
6- Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Sapphire/Titanium
Of all the devices I've had, including the Fenix 3HR - they all felt like toys compared to the 5 Plus. It feels like a mature evolution of the line, a true upgrade in the time of diminishing returns on tech releases. I would have called it the Fenix 6 and would have partnered with Spotify for offline playback if I worked for Garmin. I cannot comment on direct comparisons with the 5 line, just the 3HR. Overall, I would weigh this watch 65% fitness/health tracking 35% smart watch right out of the box.
EDIT: Garmin added Spotify offline playback on Fenix 5 Plus October 2018! It's the perfect watch for me now.
--The watch is significantly faster than the previous series' offerings
--Actually use the wireless pay - it's easy to access and works as intended
--Offline maps are amazing, Garmin has the infrastructure from their previous businesses which translates beautifully to this watch. If not used, at least there's peace of mind there.
--Music is a nice touch. But where is offline Spotify? C'mon Garmin, get it on the watch(es) you know it will push a TON of new customers over the edge and buy :)
--Stress measurement is a good metric to have now. Accuracy seems suspect at times though.
--Size down from 51mm (3HR) to 47mm for full featured kit. 51mm is BEEF brah.
--Quick release bands are great. Not many vendors out there with aftermarket offerings right now, but enough to find something you would like.
--As usual, stellar battery life. I get 7 days + with tons of notifications and short non-GPS or ultratrac records.
--Plus the countless fitness tracking activities and possible sensor parings that this thing can do.
Pricey? Heck yeah. Worth every penny? YES - I can't recommend this watch enough. Eat beans for a month or two and get the watch.

FitBit was a great improvement over Jaw Bone but I noticed irregularities in the daily data especially regarding resting heart and peak heart rates that I became suspect of the device(s) worn. Likewise the sleep summary was not consistent and it sometimes would not capture the times I went to bed or it would get the time right but not document awake times accurately.
I wanted to refrain from commenting on the Garmin Fenix until I had had some consistent use.
Likes
I feel it is a better 'instrument' in all aspects for monitoring daily activities and rest periods. Battery life has been adequate as I only top off the watch while taking a shower. Comparing the data it tracks with my other devices there are similarities but it currently is more consistent than FitBit (I have three different devices and this comparison is with each of them) It also arrays the data in more detail if desired so seems to allow the user more options for tracking and verifying.
Swapping watch straps is easy and it appears they both will have long wear life.
Dis Likes
I have a manual and have looked at manual on line too but find the process to save a workout more complicated than other activity watches, yes you can tailor the watch face but that too is more complicated than it should be. Would even be better if Garmin loaded more than one watch face instead of having aftermarket software provide those functions. I have not downloaded a watch face to use yet, my experience with other systems is a user can get down loads to their watch but then some functions don't work as should be and I have not found the process to remove down load and reinstall the OEM delivered watch so I have not experimented.
Don't like the term "stress" they use to monitor activity levels, yes exercise may stress the body but not in the sense of stress (physiological or physical ) that wears down someone over time and may not be apparent.
Top reviews from other countries
Best fitness watch since Spotify was added
I Use with AirPods and is so liberating to run with this watch and listen to music without my phone or wires
Currently training for marathon and I live in northern Ontario... so treadmill time
I use with both a garmin foot pod and garmin chest strap
Fairly accurate treadmill readings compared to GPS
As promised and more
Use mainly for running and planned to use only when running however love it so much I wear all the time
Battery life is very good too, requiring a full recharge only every 3 days on average considering I run 65-80 km a week with music and 2 accessories connected
Can’t praise enough and the running dynamics are amazing
Paired nicely with my iPhone
Titanium was also worth the extra cost .... I’ve banged it inadvertently many times into to walls etc without any visible damage.
Had the fenix 5 briefly and was noticeably heavier with no music
This is the fitness watch to get hands down
As for sizing, the 5 plus is perfect unless you need an oximeter then 5X plus
A male friend has the 5S and I always thought of it as more of woman’s size
I am thin ( 6 ft , 172 lbs) with average wrists and could wear the 5X without it looking too big
If you are looking for the best fitness watch that also has many smart watch functions, this is the watch to get
No comparison to the Apple Watch 4 for real fitness capabilities ( my partner has the Apple Watch 4 - better smart watch but limited for exercising )
