I really was a bit skepticle that the coating would seal the torn drywall paper, remnants of several coats of paint, and especially unremovable wallpaper glue. After sanding the damaged wall as smooth as I could get it, having removed any loose stuff, I rolled on a coat of Guardz. A few hours later, I added a second coat to the more severely damaged areas. Next day, I did the first skim coat and let it dry, then did a second drywall skim coat.
It's now been three weeks since I finished that first wall, and it looks great. There has been no blistering or cracking of the drywall mud. I've since tackled an even more damaged wall, where both wallpaper damage, and damage from an old sink cabinet and medicine cabinet left much damage. Again, I coated the wall with 2 coats of Guardz, and skim coated it. After sanding the second skim coat, the wall looks great. Guardz really does seal discrepancies so the skim coat can make it look new again.
