The Blue Valley series is not your typical love story. It is a journey through one’s past … maybe even a story resembling someone close to you.
It’s our story.
He’s the boy you hate to love, and love to hate. Lucas, the star quarterback, seems to have it all—super star athletic abilities, expensive clothes, cars, and women who will stop at nothing to be his, if only for a night.
Tessa is a young woman who lives her life always doing what is right. She tries desperately to hold herself accountable to the demanding expectations of her family, and everyone around her, while remaining virtuous.
However, when two worlds collide, sparks fly and ignite in a fiery passion that neither Lucas nor especially Tessa are ready for.
A troubled home life is exposed. Past flings fight for attention. Exes wreak havoc. And the odds continue to stack up against them.
Will the fire and passion of first love win, or will it destroy them?
Warning: Highly Emotional!
This book contains volatile characters in real-life situations that may be triggers to some readers.
PLEASE NOTE: this series was previously released as The Love series (MJ's very first works) and has been through a complete rewrite, which consists of a change from narrative to first person/ dual POV and forty thousand words worth of new content.
MJ Fields is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance novels. She lives in New York with her daughter Miss A, smoochie faced Newfie, Theo and the newest member to the 'fields crew, rescue diva / holy terror Eleanor. When she’s not locked away in the cave, she enjoys doing home improvement projects, spending time with her family, attending live music and sporting events, the theatre, singing off key, dancing to her own beat, listening to audio books, and reading of course.
Seriously, too much toxicity for my brain.. The writing felt choppy with with weird narrative setting though tbh i would have suffered my way through it if it was worth it in any sense but just read a spoiler and found out how different this book is from my taste. And add that to the mix with an asshole badboy and a so call independent h ..yeah we can see where this is going miles long ahead ...
And I have this nagging feeling that I won't be liking either of the MC. One for being a repetitive asshole while the other for ..well ..*just being herself. The same old goody two shoes = unknowingly a doormat ...we have all heard about
💔😱 is this asshole back?😱💔 ❤️🩹This little shit is gonna wreck havoc on my life again Sigh I love him I love them 💃What a ride it’s gonna be💃
NTS: 👇🏽My review 👇🏽of previous versions EIGHT YEARS AGO: Blue Love
My thoughts on books 1 to 3
The last time I read a couple this buggered, is the Closer Trilogy.. Except Lucas and Tessa are WORSE. Much worse. They are so wrong for each other. The words: obsessed, possessive, needy, territorial, jealous don't come close to describing how he feels about her. She is exactly the same. I wish I could put into words how intense this read is.
The blurbs of each book explains exactly what stage they are at in their lives, so we sort of know where each book is going. But believe me, nothing prepared me for the love and pain the H and h experience. She's a friggin martyr. He is the worse boyfriend any girl could possibly ask for. I hate him. He is the devil incarnate beautiful bad-boy. And she irritates me. Shes a gorgeous goody goody two shoes with a mean streak and gives as good as she gets. But their connection is such an explosive train wreck, I'm morbidly glued to the devastation that is their relationship. They grow within themselves and their relationship and then backslide into despair so much, its like they never grew in the first place. I'm so SO frustrated!
There is so MUCH happening in each book. Im sure some will think that its OTT but its all very believable to me. Very real. Each one is lengthy and has a bittersweet ending. The other characters are wonderful to read. I love them all. The author isn't afraid to flesh them out. The thing is, you'd expect this kind of read to not have much "together time" for them, but nope, they're together even when they're not together. Weird. Addictive.
I don't like: that its an installment read of 4 books, its expensive, that it seriously needs a good cleanup iro grammar, punctuation, spelling. In fact, the lack of editing is disconcerting, more so because its such a good story and otherwise so well written. But its not enough to deter me from it. I'm enthralled and horrified that I AM enthralled in the first place. But truly, I can't be bothered with all these problems cos I love-hate this story so much. I'm also gonna check out the author's other books. I love her writing style.
Oh, and Lucas is a crying hero. A b@stard crying hero. He messes up. ALL. THE. TIME. But dear goodness I love him. And I love the hold she has over him cos he is just too much of an arrogant @.$$hole and I'm gleefully watching him squirm and flounder around like a lost fool. The pig. If he wasn't so f'd up and so addicted to her, so vulnerable and so misunderstood, I'd have thrown in the towel long ago. I mean, they go around in CIRCLES! Over and over again!
I'm almost done with book 3 and have NO idea if there's even a HEA for them in book 4. You know I must have a solid HEA, right? This is the first time I can honestly say that if it doesn't happen, I'm probably gonna be fine with it. Right now, he is hurting her too much, she's allowing it too often and the one MAIN thing that keeps me reading is that HE hurts JUST as much as her every time
Blue Love will get you in all the feels. This is what I love about MJ Fields, she knows how to make you go through all the emotions and she can make each and every story beautiful. This book will make you ugly cry.
Tessa Ross is a senior and field hockey player. She has never had a boyfriend, never been kissed, and a virgin. Her family is going through a rough patch and she decides to date Lucas Links. He’s a senior and the star football player the quarterback, every girl wants him. He’s been with a dirty dozen. He comes from a broken home. A mom who’s a drunk and a dad who’s never been there for him. This is just book one of how their story unfolds.
I’m not sure what I was expecting when I opened this book but what I got was a well written, emotional roller coaster of a read that got to me on so many levels. Be prepared there may be triggers for some so please take note.
I’m in two minds about Lucas, he is someone that is easy to hate as well as love. Lucas Links is the star quarterback, he can have anyone he wants and seems to want for nothing, however all is not as it seems and there is more to him than first appears. Tessa Ross is focused on doing the right thing, no matter what but she too is struggl and there is agreat deal bubbling under the surface.
When Lucas and Tessa meet , sparks fly with an intensity that both do not expect . This is a story of young love, it’s hardships, the drama and trauma that can occur. Both have family issues and my heart went out to them at times. The gamut of emotions that I went through had me feeling as though I was on an epic ride that I couldn’t get off.
When Lucas’s past comes back to haunt him what will happen? If you like stories that have heart and soul, angst and drama then Blue Love is for you.
This book is so emotional and heartbreaking. Tessa is the glue that holds everyone together in her life until she meets one of the white hat boys Lucas Links. Lucas Links, high school football star, broken boy, new to Blue Valley High has been kissed more than once. His past constantly keeps coming back to haunt them, one nasty girl in particular Sadi. Tessa’s family is having issues and she has a bad habit of lashing out and definitely can’t handle liquor very well. Lucas does try so hard with her but screws up multiple times. After one final blow that he knows will destroy her, he knows he needs to set her free. Vowing that for her he will become a better man. One that is deserving of her. I just cried for Tessa and her heartbreak and everything is crumbling around her at every turn.
Blue Love is a heartbreaking, emotional story I have ever read! This is a first love/broken love story, with all the angst, confusions, helplessness and uncontrollable feelings. I love how Tessa and Lucas meet, it’s your typical strong independent girl meets bad boy. What I like is that there is more to the story than that. It’s definitely an emotional roller coaster that will make you sad, happy, laugh and angry. I really enjoyed reading their story and can’t wait to see what happens to them next!
I voluntarily leave an honest review of this Advanced Readers Copy.
OMG I laughed so hard and cried so hard. This book had me all over the place. 🤣 Loved the references to time period. MJ really outdid herself retelling this story. Lucas really is the boy u love to hate but can't help loving.
DNF for me sadly the characters were horrible she appeared ditzy and desperate and he was an apparent sex addict who treated her like crap… too many red flags got past half way and couldn’t push myself through it anymore
I found it a bit boring in parts, they're highschool kids. H has an ex (OW) obsessed with him ready to do anything to get him and always very rude to the h. The h seems very tough, because physically fights with other women and always jumps at the first provocation of the OW but with bbs. The h's family is very religious; the H has had to be the caretaker for his alcoholic mom and an absentee dad. I liked that the dad does a twist on this and seeks to be more supportive of his son. I was bored that there are some scenes that feel like filler and super unnecessary; at times it goes overly descriptive. I liked it enough to listen to the next one. I started it because I read the story of Lucas's children first and was intrigued by the previous generation.
Tessa Ross is a senior at Blue Valley High. She’s self-conscience about her newly developed body, but still has a lot of sass and spunk. When she catches the eye of Blue Valley’s star quarterback, all bets are off. But when you realize that the boy you love has hurt you yet again, can you really forgive him fully?
Lucas Links is starting his senior year in a new school. When Tessa catches his eye and throws down the challenge of never getting the chance to be with her, it’s a challenge that he’s determined to win. But with Tessa it’s different. He feels things that he’s never felt before. His immaturity and recklessness hurts Tessa many times over. After one final blow that he knows will destroy her, he knows he needs to set her free. Vowing that for her he will become a better man. One that is deserving of her.
4 1/2 heart wrenching stars. This is a story about young love that is faced with a lot of trials. My hurt broke for Lucas and his circumstances. I am still rooting for him and Tessa. Can’t wait for the next book!
I don't think I can even put into words how I feel about this book. This book is everything and brought me back to when I was 15 and the guy I was dating off and on until I was 18. This is how my life was for 3 years. We would be together and then he would break up because he cheated and wanted different. It was so up and down. My love for this guy will always be there, as I assume I will keep reading about Tessa and her feelings. Thank you for this book.
What on Earth is this?! Honestly, probably one of the worst books I have ever read. Lucas is an absolute dick. And Tessa is a whiny little b***h. I hate both characters. And maybe they deserve each other for how idiotic they are.
Maybe my hate stems from them being high schoolers. Idk. It was so boring. The same thing over and over. I can't imagine the series getting any better.
I loved Tessa and Lucas was okay. Tessa is a badass and puts up with a lot for Lucas. He hasn’t won me over yet but he is getting there. I wish Sadi would get the hell out of the way but you always need a villain in a good story. I love Toby and Ben alot. Hope Tessa gets a happily ever after with someone worth it!
Fullof angst... I don't know if I even like Tessa or Lucas...but this is the teen years. I'm looking forward to getting to the end...right now...its just a lot...lol on to the next one.
It's been a long time since I read this series and this has been reworked. But I enjoyed it all the same. There so much angst though between Lucas and Tessa. The back and forth took you on a roller coaster of emotions. Can't wait to keep reading.
OMGosh I hate cliffhangers. Usually look to see if they are but for some reason I didn’t in this book. Loved the characters but not enough to to drone on and on In probably 3 more books
Long and boring. It had potential but the writer want to add drama where they shouldn’t be. Tess and Lucas relationship is like a nonstop loop especially for high schoolers. It could have been a great teen book, beginning have so much potentially to be good. Wasn’t for me.
This book is absolutely amazing. Just perfect. It’s beautifully written, the characters are amazing. I couldn’t put it down. I definitely recommend it.
Love the characters. Real life drama. Will make you smile and then make you sad because of the drama. If you love a good love story this is one to read.
Read all of the Series all I have say is man did this book remind of my high school years!!!! Girls are vicious! Tessa just wants to be seen and loved hard just the way she gives it!!!!
