Flagship From Fullerton
In 1980, Leo Fender — who invented the electric bass guitar three decades before and had been honing his designs ever since — set out to build an even better bass. The G&L L-2000 benefited from everything Leo knew about the electric bass. Today’s G&L Custom Shop L-2000 bass embodies not only Leo’s considerable insight on the subject, but also decades of modern refinements, the very finest tonewoods and components, and meticulous handcrafted construction by G&L’s world-class luthiers at the Fullerton Custom Shop. It all adds up to a tour-de-force instrument that can do no wrong. We don’t say that lightly. Featuring an exquisite quilt maple top on a toneful okoume body, a dynamic duo of G&L Magnetic Field Design humbuckers and G&L’s wonderfully flexible Tri-Tone control circuitry, a fast, comfortable C-profile neck, and Leo Fender’s rock-solid Saddle-Lock bridge, the G&L L-2000 can deliver any bass tone you need for any situation — and look incredible doing it. From its superb balance and flawless playability to its endless palette of tonal textures, the G&L Custom Shop L-2000 is in a class by itself.

Beastly tone engine
The tone engine of the L-2000 consists of two G&L Magnetic Field Design humbucking pickups in conjunction with G&L’s amazingly versatile Tri-Tone control circuit, which conveys a level of sonic flexibility that makes it easy to nail your tone fast, no matter what style or genre you’re playing in. The Tri-Tone system features three mini toggle switches for pickup selection, your choice of active or passive operation and series or parallel signal routing, as well as volume, bass, and treble controls. With all that tone-shaping power under the hood, the L-2000 is ideal for session musicians and pro bassists who have to adapt to a wide range of musical settings quickly.
Saddle-lock bridge increases resonance and sustain
The Custom Shop L-2000 features another Leo Fender innovation — G&L Saddle-Lock bridge — which blows away the comparatively primitive bridge designs found on vintage basses by efficiently transferring string vibration to the instrument’s sleekly sculpted, offset-waist body. The Saddle-Lock bridge reduces the lateral movement of the saddle pieces by tightening an Allen screw on the side of the bridge. Additionally, the Saddle-Lock bridge has a solid protrusion on its backside that is sunk firmly into the instrument’s body wood. Together, these two features make it easier for string energy to travel into the body and translate into a rich, resonant, and sustaining sound.
A legacy of innovation and quality
Today, G&L USA instruments are built at the same Fender Avenue factory in Fullerton that originally housed Fender production and manufactured early Music Man instruments. Leo’s private workshop remains the heart and soul of the factory and is regularly visited by music lovers from across the planet. Although not widely distributed, G&L instruments are held in high esteem among savvy musicians and collectors. The company’s relatively small-scale American production operation, employing a blend of computer-assisted CNC machine processes and handcrafting by expert luthiers, allows for a range of customization that is not possible with large production lines. Sweetwater is proud to offer such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.
