Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be using BIN Shellac primer on furniture projects when bleed thru is an issue and Kilz for stinky/smelly projects, but for everything else? I’ll be using Stix!
I returned it. I ordered it again from another seller and it was packaged perfectly and a few dollars cheaper.
It’s a great product however! I deducted one star for the packaging.

And I'm not talking shiny glossy smooth tile. So if you're wondering whether or not you can paint your backsplash, you absolutely CAN if you prime with this.
It just requires some prep, but barely:
1) Scrub the tile with TSP, wipe clean. Repeat if you're really concerned about grease build up or dirt.
2) Once that's dry, you have the option of sanding. I have a palm sander so I did try to sand, but realized it would take me quite a while, and I'll admit I got lazy, so I only did a few tiles and then gave up because it wasn't taking much of the sheen off.
3) Paint one coat on your tile. I used a small brush for the grout and a mini sponge roller from the dollar store. Leave to dry for at least the day. I left mine overnight because I really wanted to give a lot of time between coats. Repeat this step and do a second coat. Again let it dry. I had to apply a third coat because I had that dreaded red colour that I could still slightly see after 2 thin coats and I knew I was going to be applying a very light colour over top so I didn't want any chance of the dark colour showing. I actually left mine for two days after the third coat because we went away.
*note: for maximum adhesion potential, it's much better to do multiple thin coats than fewer thicker coats
4) Now for the fun part! You get to paint over it with your new colour! I used Benjamin Moore's Advance paint because it has the properties of an oil based paint without actually being oil based (so soap and water clean up - a huge plus). I highly recommend this paint. You can get it in any sheen and the adhesion and durability is top knotch. Benjamin Moore also seems to have the best selection of colours and shades. If you use this paint, it requires a long time between coats (16 hours), so again you will need to do a few thin coats over a few days. I left mine for the day and then overnight after each coat.
OK, so on to the cons.
For this primer there actually are no cons from my experience! My con is with the shipping. I was skeptical ordering paint from Amazon online but I only needed a quart and my local Home Hardware didn't have that size. The box came ok but the can had been damaged somehow and was leaking everywhere. Luckily it was wrapped very well in plastic so the paint was contained and I didn't lose much, nor did it seem to affect the quality. Amazon actually did refund me for it and didn't want the paint back so I figured I'd see what I could salvage, which was most of it.
So yah, overall I 1000% recommend this primer, especially if you're painting tiles!!
