Meg Tallmadge has more than enough on her plate. She’s finishing up a college degree, getting ready to apply to vet school, and working another summer with her dad, Stan, on the family ranch in southern Wyoming. He’s managed to get the Los Angeles Times to send a reporter out to do a story on the Diamond Rock, which doubles as a dude ranch. Meg knows the ranch needs all the publicity it can get to bring in more customers, but she’s not looking forward to babysitting a reporter for a week. When the originally scheduled reporter can’t make it, Meg worries that they won’t get a story at all, which is worse than dealing with a city slicker for a few days. Fortunately for Stan and the ranch, the Times finds a replacement, and Meg prepares to be under scrutiny, under the gun, and the perfect hostess. She knows what this opportunity means to her father, and she’s hoping that if it goes well, it’ll ease some of the distance between them that resulted when she came out a few months earlier.

What Meg’s not prepared for — and never expected — is the reporter herself and the effect she has on her. In spite of what she feels, Meg can’t risk the fallout that could result from overstepping a professional boundary. But as the week draws to a close, it becomes clear that not taking a chance could be the biggest risk of all.

I'm a country girl. Raised in my cowboy boots & hat from as early as I can remember. The majority of my elementary school photos were taken in that classic hat, belt buckle & boots, not to leave out the standard pearl, snap-fronted western shirt & jeans. I spent my free time in the pasture, stroking a colt as it slept sprawled out in the field, soaking up the sun. Even used a few as a pillow as the mare, thankfully, made a point of not stepping on me. I love horses. I love romance & I love intelligent women with a sense of humor. With all that in mind I gotta tell ya, this was a fantastic read. One of my complaints about this genre is many of the stories are too short & yet the price is an average of $10, ebook format. This book was not too short or too long, but at the same time the $1.99 barely seamed enough, considering the enjoyment I got out of the read. The story was good and well-told. The characters likable & believable. The dog names, hilarious & the creative stories behind them, even better. That explanation was just a short little snippet within the whole & yet added so much flare. The story focused more on the romance than the technical side of a ranch & yet what it did touch on in that area was accurate & enjoyable. So even you city folk can enjoy the read without making your head hurt trying to figure something out about ranching jargon, etc...Certainly worth your time & the small fee, even if the cost eventually increases. The love letter at the end was superbly written and gave the most excellent meaning to the title.

I just finished reading From The Boots Up. It was captivating. Pulled me right into the story. The main character Meg is a young ranch girl home from school for the summer to help with her father's ranch and their "ranch experience" guests. A journalist comes to the ranch to do a story to help promote the ranch. Meg has an instant attraction to the brown eyed beauty named Gina. She can't und...erstand why she can't let the crush go; for all she knows is that Gina is straight, in a relationship and most certainly off limits since she is a guest and doing a cover story for the ranch. But she is smitten. The heat builds between Meg and Gina as there is some casual flirting that is being exchanged throughout the week that Gina is staying at the ranch for the story.

A few close encounters of butterflies and sweaty palms that has the reader yelling aloud, kiss her already...But the story continues and the suspense proves to be enticing as it continues to pull the reader (me) deeper into the story. I couldn't flips those pages on my Kindle fast enough.

It is an awesome and captivating book. For anyone that is filled with passion, loves the pull on the heart and the loins; please get your copy of Andi Marquette's book "From The Boots Up"See More

I really enjoyed this novella. It was sweet and gentle, and captured a quick snapshot of a few days on a guest ranch in the west. The character of Meg was deftly drawn through her interaction with other characters in the book, and her own internal conversations.. Meg's budding romance was exceptionally developed via the use of fun and witty dialogue. When the action does heat up, Andi handles those writing duties perfectly.
As a novella, we don't get to see a longer build-up of the characters motivations or development, but the beauty of this form of writing, is that one gets to enjoy a quick, but thoroughly satisfying nugget of romantic fiction. Put it in a western setting with a cowgirl as heroine, and it deserves 5 stars. "From the Boots Up" will be joining Andi Marquette's earlier "Some Kind of River" on my
'Do Not Erase' Kindle collection.

On my God- what a fantastic story. The descriptions of the scenery, the place, and the characters are so vivid! The family members that stayed at the ranch we’re all very well written to. I love the name of the dogs that was just too cute. I am most eager to read the second part of this book.

This story is basically what I've come to expect from the author: well written, atmospheric, brilliant setting, lovely characters, but zero conflict.

The setting is so well described I could visualize Wyoming. The details were great - everything from horseback riding to country karaoke were spot-on. The characters were sweet and compelling. I would normally love a story like this, except there's no danger. I need conflict and dramatic scenes fraught with tension. But there's very little of that, which is sad because the story is so damned pretty. Pretty, but boring.

Most lesbian romance reads like bad porn to me but this one didn't! Yay! I liked this one. I liked the characters and setting. Both were fun. The conflict was sort of ambiguous though. Would have liked to see more conflict with perhaps Davy causing trouble and trying to prevent them from being together because of jealousy perhaps?

Also I didn't give this five stars because I really would have liked to see the relationship between Gina and Meg be based more on emotional factors of getting to know each other and less on physical attraction. Such as the scene where they are sitting in the hood of the car and talking. I was looking forward to a bonding conversation there and instead it was skipped. I felt things like that made the story not as engaging as it could have been.

I did however LOVE the sex scene and the ending letter that Gina writes Meg. Very beautiful.

This is exactly the kind of story I've been looking for! Slow burn, not porn, just two strong women who gently but quickly fall for each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great modern western
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 9, 2013
Meg Tallmadge is home from college for the summer at her dad, Stan's ranch, Diamond Rock in Southern Wyoming. She's just finishing up a college degree and is hoping to get into vet school.

Meg has to be on her best behavior. A reporter from the Los Angeles Times is due to arrive to do a story on the workings of the dude ranch. Meg isn't looking forward to looking after a big city reporter for a week.

When the reporter scheduled to do the story cancels, Meg and Stan worry the ranch won't get the publicity it so desperately needs. Fortunately a replacement is found. When Meg meets Gina, bells, whistles and sirens sound loudly in her head. Meg can't afford to let her feelings get the better of her. Diamond Rock must come first and that means strictly no fraternization. That's even if her feelings would be reciprocated.

This could be one of the hardest weeks in Meg's life. But what will happen when the week comes to an end? All bets are off then!

A beautifully written modern day western. With a sweet and tender romance simmering away in the background. Everything about this book screamed wonderful. The settings, the working/dude ranch, the characters, the animals, the cowgirls, but most of all, the love that radiated from the pages.

The story grabbed my attention from the very first page. No.....Strike that, from the great title and the cover. The story is sometimes funny, sad, sexy and hot. I do have one complaint, I wanted more, much more. I'd love to see a sequel or even a full length book with these characters. I've added this to my list of re-reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Einfach nur schön...
Reviewed in Germany on April 3, 2013
Es ist schon eine ganze Weile her, dass ich ein Buch von Andi Marquette gelesen habe. Und so richtig wusste ich auch nicht, worauf ich mich bei "From the Boots Up" einlasse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cowgirl Romanze
Reviewed in Germany on December 8, 2014

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Read for a Lazy Sunday Afternoon
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 10, 2013
This was great, a really lovely, well written and light hearted novella with characters you really wanted to get to know. For me that's the best kind as its one of the things that makes me want to re-read books where I relate to the people in them or at least definitely liked them.

It's also quite funny, the dialogue had me smiling and at time laughing out loud, also I loved hearing about the ranch and the operations of it. The supporting characters, especially the 4 legged ones made the book richer too.

This was written in the main character's point of view and its only nearer the end that you get the second one's view, I liked that, it left me guessing as how it would go.

It's my first book by this author but most definitely will not be my last, I've added her to the must read more list 

I only give 5 stars to books that totally wow me, so from me 4 stars is high praise
