Go Super-Sonic with Fender!

Fender turned heads a few years back when they crammed two classic amps and the high gain crunch of modern amps into one box. Well, they re-tooled the Super-Sonic, dropping it down to 22 watts, and giving this latest incarnation a fatter tone and more bass. With a passel of tubes and two channels, you can dial in your perfect guitar tone. The Super-Sonic 22 guitar amp head is designed for serious players desiring modern high-gain head boasts a 6V6 power section that offers up a Deluxe Reverb-style feel with moderate output. Like its big brother, the Super-Sonic 22 can conjure everything from classic clean to face-melting high-gain tones.

Fender Super-Sonic 22 Guitar Amplifier Head at a Glance:
  • The tones you need for any gig
  • Huge Fender tones from clean to scream
  • Four-channel footswitch for instant control
The tones you need for any gig

Fender's Legendary mid-'60s Blackface tone is considered the ultimate in clean by many tube combo aficionados. To which many would wistfully add, "If only it did overdrive." Well, now it does. A member of Fender's no-nonsense Pro Tube Series, the Super-Sonic head nails the shimmering vintage tones of the original and ups the ante with a smorgasbord of expressive modern high-gain sounds that'll strip the paint off club walls.

Huge Fender tones from clean to scream

The Super-Sonic 22 head's vintage channel is where you'll find your sparkling cleans and the thick, punchy voice of a '60s-era Blackface amp. The burn channel gives you everything from crunchy breakup to full-on sonic armageddon without masking the true tonal character of your guitar. Did we mention this amp is versatile? Of course, that luscious, tube-driven Fender long-spring reverb is onboard, ready for you to dial-in a judicious amount.

Convenient footswitch for instant control

Change amp channels and switch on effects with the included 4-button footswitch. Add a punch to your Super-Sonic 22 amp head's vintage channel by switching from normal to fat with ease. The footswitch also lets you choose which channel is active. A dedicated reverb and effects loop on/off switch give you immediate control over your effects.

Fender Super-Sonic 22 Guitar Amplifier Head Features:
  • All-tube guitar amp head with vintage and modern tones
  • A loud 22 watts into 8 ohms
  • 2 channels (vintage and burn)
  • Spring reverb effects
  • Blonde textured vinyl covering
  • 2 x 6V6, 3 x 12AX7, and 2 x 12AT7 tubes

Excellent lap steel guitar amp!

Like another reviewer stated somewhere, I was watching some demos on the Super Champ head, and reading online, and was intrigued by that amp's "Super Sonic" setting. Most amps have way too much treble that you can't dial out for a sweet lap steel guitar tone. After researching & watching demos on the actual Super Sonic, I was sold on it. Admittedly, my first purchase was a Katana Artist MkII for the access to all the onboard effects and lower price tag, but it was sent back immediately. The Katana was the most shrill, extreme treble amp I've heard so far.

I then ordered the one I really wanted, the Super Sonic head, and I love it! It arrived damaged, but after trying it out for 2 or 3 hours, there was no way I was sending it back.

I only dinged a half a star because mine arrived with the face/tweed front board broken loose and flopping around in the carton. This is not any fault of Sweetwater, but Fender, thinking press board will hold a wood screw from the back with maybe 1/8" thread engagement at best. ...I'd expect Fender would have a better solution.

This amp has such a wide range, and very responsive tone shaping on the "Burn" channel. I use the "Vintage" side as well, but only with the "Fat" switch engaged for a fat round tone. It was nice to get an amp with the footswitch, cover, and cables supplied as well.

Legendary Fender tone

Playing since the 60's have owned & played several Twins '65 &'68, Vibrolux Reverb'66, Bassman'65,'66 Deluxe Rev etc.etc. This unit has that and MORE w great spring reverb,fx loop, nice functioning footswitch, plenty of gain!
Even the fat switch has a nice warm SRV vibe. Radio dials are cool too. Very happy.

Review for Fender Supersonic 22 watt head

I recently ordered a Fender Supersonic 22 watt head from Sweetwater. It is an excellent sounding amp, very comparable to the 68' custom reverb deluxe in its clean tone. The second channel or 'burn' channel as it's called has surprisingly good gain options. Good enough that I was able to remove an overdrive pedal from my board. The amp came with a broken footswitch that Nathanial Walker was able to sort out for me. He reached out to Fender to replace and when Fender replied that it would be a few months to get one he went ahead and took a new footswitch out of a different Supersonic head and shipped it out. When it arrived it had obviously been tested at Sweetwater to insure it functioned properly. I really appreciate all the effort on my behalf. I would also like to thank Skyler McGlothlin who has been a great help with all my purchases. After ordering gear from amazon and getting very poor and confused customer service it has been a pleasure having Sweetwater fill my gear needs. Thanks!

Biting, Stinging and Bell Tone Ringing

I played around with the 12th and 13th channel on a Fender Super Champ X2 I bought new here. I became very intrigued by what I was hearing on the Super Sonic channel so I bought the real thing. It is awesome. A full sized reverb tank is what makes the booger so long (24 inches). It sounds great with humbuckers, S-Style and T-style guitars. It's my first real Fender amp and I am very pleased. The clean is amazing and the dirty channel is super flexible. My only other amps have been all Morgans and this thing is not out of place with them at all. She's a keeper!
