Redemption #8

Favorite Mistake

Rate this book
He was the town’s golden boy, their all-American hero. But there was a side of him he’d only shown her.

When Lyric Jackson stopped for gas in Redemption, Tennessee, she wasn’t sure what to think of the small town nestled in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. Then she got one look at Holton Clarke, saw that charming smile, and fell instantly. One night with the man in uniform sparked an ember of hope, but things didn’t quite end how she’d expected.

All Holton Clarke ever wanted to do was protect the people he cares about. He thought he’d be able to do that better as a deputy for his hometown, but one call turned his whole world and everything he thought he knew upside down. Including what he’d hoped for his future with a certain sassy librarian.

But when danger from Lyric’s past comes calling, Holton has to put his fears and insecurities to the side in order to save the woman who has gotten under his skin, but she refuses to make it easy, or give him a second chance. Now she’s under his roof, sharing his bed, and throwing him attitude and dirty looks every chance she gets.

She might claim that nothing is ever going to happen between them, but that one night they’d shared was his favorite mistake ever, and he has every intention of repeating it for the rest of his life.

DNF @ 63% (over the halfway mark so it gets rated)

I couldn’t take much more of the annoying heroine. Women who know they’re a consolation prize and still stick around baffle me. She allows herself to be railroaded and just falls into line with whatever everyone else wants, including moving into the hero’s house for ‘protection’ 🙄

Then there’s her useless best friend whose behaviour gets excused away because she’s “sweet and innocent” (I lost track of how many times those words were used to describe the best friend 🙄) If your best friend doesn’t have your back, regardless of whether they agree with you or not, then they’re a shitty best friend IMO.

And finally, there’s the hero who lacked the balls needed to convince me he was worth reading til the end for. He had no problem going after the heroine’s best friend in a previous book, or hooking up with other women, but g-d forbid he treat the heroine with some decency. He pretty much bolts after spending the night (the same night she has no problem spilling her guts to him about personal shit when he refuses to do the same 🙄), and saying the usual shit about how it shouldn’t have happened…blah, blah, blah. Don’t worry - she’s pretty spineless so he’s back in there in no time 🙄 Anyhoo, I didn’t like him at all - he was way too passive for me. Not even the cute little dog wasn’t enough for me to like him.

I usually don’t DNF so early, but I just don’t think this author is a good fit for me. This is only my third book, but I’m sensing a theme… and it’s immature h’s that suck at adulting… which isn’t my jam. Case in point, the entire plot is built on a ONS and how the H handled it which CRUSHED the h.

Here are the deets… (this all happens within the first chapter)

Lyric has had the hots for the town Sheriff (Holton) since she moved to town. She’s feeling low and decides to go to the local watering hole to drown her sorrows when she sees Holton. He’s putting off a “don’t bother me vibe” but she decides to shoot her shot and sits next to him. After some time, they’re having a nice conversation, and she suggests they take things back to her house. Sexcapades ensue and somewhere during the night Lyric decides they are couple goals and is devastated/pissed when he kindly tells her that’s not the case.

My issue… I like an empowered woman. I HATE it when the h is sitting around for YEARS not getting any because she’s waiting around for an H. I want her out living her life, so I was pleased that Lyric made her move even initiating the ONS, but she ruined it by acting like a 14-year-old the next morning. She approached him… she sat by him… she started talking to him… she suggested the hookup… what in that screamed that they were starting a relationship?? That’s just silly… and clingy/crazy and way too immature for a ONS.

So. I was already struggling when her girl posse all got together to torch another friends ex’s priceless baseball cards and were all chanting Burn it and cackling so loud the neighbors called in a noise complaint… and I’m out.

Bottom Line- These bitches aren’t for me.

Well written.
Local sherrif and the librarian.
They have a ONS and he backs off, saying it was a mistake when she was hopeful they'd started something.
Girl posse.
Protective Hero. Cute dog.
In a previous book, Hero had kissed the heroine of that story, heroine witnessed it.
I can't remember details of that and it's not embellished.
The Hero says he was looking for someone safe.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
HEA.
Epilogue.
Link for an extra bonus scene.

This was cute. The hero is a jerk to the heroine after a one night stand and begins to regret it immediately. He does some groveling and puppy dog eyes and she lets him back in but not before calling him out and making him work for it. Hurrah for brain cells!

Not a whole lot of angst other than a looming bad guy as happens so often with JP.

Best part of the book was the H's little bromance with Churro the chihuahua he finds and rescues.

This started off with a bang, and then went a little downhill for me. I'm not gonna lie, I thought there would be a whole lot more jealousy and angst going on. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good story, just more sweet than rip your heart out🤣

Now on to Lyric and Holton. Daammmnnn, did those two burn up the sheets🥵 not gonna lie, I wish there were more scenes. sorry, not sorry😅🤣

I loved Lyric. She had a lot of self-respect and was just a good person. After Holton's careless actions, she really held her ground, too

Holton. Man, that dude put his foot in his mouth at the beginning of the story and then spent the rest trying to get her to forgive him. He had some super sweet speeches that just warmed my heart right up.

So, it's definitely a solid read, and I will continue reading what Jessica Prince releases.

I received an ARC, and this is my honest review

Lyric Jackson thought the one night she and Holton Clarke spent together was the beginning of something special only to have her hard crush shattered. Lyric has gone out of her way to avoid everything Holt, but they keep running into one another and she makes sure he knows to stay away.

Holt knows he made a mistake, he can't stop thinking about Lyric and wants to make it right. He wants her but everyone thinks Holt is the town hero when he feels he failed on one of his last cases. Can he get Lyric to give him a second chance or will it be too late?

I really enjoyed this one. Lyric is different then a lot of this author's character. She won me over in the first chapter when she told off Holt. I thought the pacing was wonderful, a bit of a slow burn after the initial hookup. So many excellent books in this series and this is a favorite for sure.

***5 ‘Team Lyric’ Stars***

I was all kinds of excited for Lyric and Holt’s book after meeting them in Slow Burn and I was not disappointed in any way. This was a fun and steamy read filled with lots of heart and confirmed once again why this is one of my favorite worlds to get lost in.

I adored Lyric going in and that adoration only grew them more. She’s sassy and feisty and is settling into Redemption quite nicely. Holt is all kinds of charming and protective…and dirty, in the best of ways. The chemistry between them was undeniable, but boy do things go sideways for them before they could really get going. But small town goodness and fate step in and while I was totally team Lyric, I was very happy when they finally moved past it and thoroughly enjoyed watching them become more.

This was another great read. There is a bit of suspense that could be triggering, but it was done well and I really liked how that got resolved. And, as always, I loved catching up with everyone in Redemption, especially Deva and just seeing how all of their relationships are evolving. Holt’s family was all kinds of awesome, especially his mom. There are a few people I’m curious about, so toes crossed to see if they end up getting their own HEA’s.

2.5 rounded up because This was well written… but boring. The reasoning of the H for initial push away was immature for an almost 40 yo. I couldn’t help but feel that he was still hung up on her bff.

I absolutely positively LOVED this story! Holton has been owed his HEA for a while and I’m so happy with how JP gave it to us! Who would’ve known underneath all that golden boy exterior, Holt was hiding something??? If you’re looking for a sweet romance, you’re gonna be getting WAAAAYYY more than you bargained for because Holt (insert GIF of Wolf of Wall Street - Leo D biting his fist) hahaha!

Lyric was a woman who knew what she wanted and what she’s worth. It’s crazy how just one person, one meeting, can change your course in life. She was beautiful, brave, and the perfect balance for Holt.

Read this one! Probably one of my faves in this series!!

Holt and Lyric are acquaintances who have a one night stand. Of course, Lyric is feeling some kind of way afterward, but Holt is running scared and rejects her at the first opportunity.
Eventually, Holt sees the error of his ways and then is spending the majority of the book trying to rebuild the trust between them. But when Lyric is facing a dangerous situation, Holt has to speed up his timeline to keep her safe and make her his. 4 stars

Swoon Worthy

Great read, though predictable.

It ticked all the boxes. Great characters, with that element of danger that slowly simmers in the background.

Great chemistry and a lot of spice.

If you haven’t read Jessica before you need to. Her femal characters are hilariously funny and relatable.

It’s a yes from me.

We’re diving back into Prince’s Redemption series with Favorite Mistake which brings readers Lyric and Holt’s story.

We were introduced to Lyric in the previous book which featured Holt too, both these characters did not disappoint, it was easy to connect with them both separately and as a couple. Lyric was such a strong, independent, compassionate female and she was the perfect match for Holt. This book had a touch of mystery to it as well as some heartfelt scenes, and of course there was humour. We also get some appearances from a few familiar faces that we’ve come to know and love from previous books by the author.

The town of Redemption has been a favourite of mine since the beginning, I look forward to seeing what’s in-store next for the town and it’s residents. If like me you’ve enjoyed other books by this author I just know you’re going to love this one. If you haven’t read any books in the series.. well what are waiting for? welcome to Redemption.

From the very moment she set her eyes on Holton Clarke, Lyric Jackson felt the connection. After an explosive night together, Lyric thought this was a start to something for the both of them. Unfortunately, that was not the case and he left her broken hearted. Normally this would not be in character of Redemption’s golden boy. Holton takes protecting his town and those he cares about very seriously, but a recent call that went horribly wrong made him seriously doubt himself. This in turn had him running scared after that amazing night with Lyric. It did not take Holton long to realize how much he messed up, unfortunately for him, Lyric does not make it easy for him to make amends. Things take a turn when Lyric’s past puts her in danger. Holton’s absolute need to protect and his strong feelings towards her does not give Lyric a choice, she will be in his home and his bed.

I loved Lyric and Holton’s story so much. Lyric has gone through so much so I was so happy that she found her place in Redemption. She has found an amazing group of friends who are there for her in the good times and bad. And even though there was all that back and forth with Holton, and after everything was said and done, they find their happily ever after. Holton may have started off as such an a$$, but that protective streak, including with little Churro, was seriously swoon-worthy. And when things get hot and heavy with Lyric, it really gets hot and heavy!

Overall, another fantastic read, and another winner in this amazing series.

Favorite Mistake by Jessica Prince is the next book in the Redemption Series and...

I REALLY REALLY LOVED IT! ❤️

Lyric is new in town and when she meets Holton in a bar... there are sparks they can't deny. One passionate and incredible night together changes everything... to the better or not?

Awwwwwww!!!
What a great roller coaster ride!
I absolutely enjoyed the love story of Lyric and Holton!
Let's be honest... at first Holton really was kinda frustrating! I didn't expect his decisions at first... but okay, mistakes can happen everywhere and all the time.
As usual Jessica Prince knows how to make you fall in love with the characters!
Nobody is perfect - and Holton isn't too, but OMG he stole my heart nevertheless!
A hot cop? Who adopted a little dog? He's this grumpy guy, who still has to deal with stuff from the past... but there's Lyric...
She's the woman! The perfect match for him. IMO! 😉
Lyric's past was sooo tragic! Oh boy! She moved to this small-town to start again. As the new librarian she got a great group of supporting women! I loved that so much!
There's this great group! And they're like a special kind of family!
So... this incredible ONS turns Holton and Lyric into... well, read the book to find out how there story continues! 😁🥰
I absolutely loved their story!
Like always there's a huge amount of emotions! OMG and the sexy times where to die for! ❤️‍🔥
And there's so much drama and suspense too!

Favorite Mistake is a wonderful addition to the Redemption Series and I can't wait for more! ❤️

4.5 STARS

This was such a great book and one of my new favorites from this author!

Lyric leaves her life to move to Redemption and immediately meets the town cop, Holton, and there is instant attraction on her end. A few months later both of them end of at the same bar, both having bad nights, so they turn the bad into something fun. But when morning comes, Holton bolts like a coward and that's when they become enemies.

But after a bit, there is a dangerous situation that Lyric finds herself in and Holton is right there to take care of her. But the question is why? After how he left things after their one night stand you would think that he would want nothing to do with her. WRONG.

Both Lyric and Holton's characters had such depth to them and their pasts. I loved seeing Lyric vulnerable because she presents herself as this force that can't be broken, but when things happen and her walls break down, while sad, it is great to see that she can be vulnerable and trust within someone.

Holton rubbed me the wrong way after the one night stand, but more than made up for it over time. He had his reasons for pushing her away and should he have just told her? Yes. But let's be serious, most people keep things in.

I am going to go back and read some more stories in this world because I just loved all of these characters!

Be warned. Holt will seriously anger you at first. Because he crushes Lyric in his haste to….run? Hide his fear? Get over another woman? You’ll find out. And even before his reasons are known, his obvious attempts to make it right, yet failing spectacularly each time, will dull your anger. And when he thinks Lyric is in trouble, your anger will disappear completely because of his actions. Sure, they may be a tad heavy handed and definitely overbearing, but the reasons for them are so very warranted.

And Lyric? Yeah. You’ll adore her the more you learn about her. She’s strong and so very lonely in life, but she’s determined to make the best of what she’s been dealt. And if Holt doesn’t quit playing games with her heart, she may lose her mind. But once these two get on the same page, it’s quite the sight to behold.

And then there’s the unlikely hero. Sometimes, people just want to find where they belong and don’t know how. No matter what you think you’re expecting, throw it aside. Trust me. Because this person so richly deserves to be a part of Lyric’s circle and world in the end that you’ll wish for some snarky time with them in future books. I know I sure do! I won’t say who it is, but I promise, you’ll like how this one turns out.

Jessica Prince is back baby.. with the next book in her infamous and addicting Redemption series and this series right here is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I adore Jessica and have been a fan for years and this book might just be a new top read of hers of mine (did that make sense? 😂).

Favorite Mistake is the next up in the line up in Redemption and this go round we have Lyric and Holton’s story and this right here is an absolute must read. Packed cover to cover with heart, heat, suspense, swoon, second chances, and allllllll of the feels.. these two tugged at my heart and had me on the sidelines rooting by the end.

This series. This author. This world. These AAAAAAMAZING characters. Jessica is a freaking brilliant writer and y'all, I really hope she never stops and expands these worlds (Hope Town too!) to the absolute max.

I can't recommend this author and series enough y'all.

Lyric has had a rough start to life with a less than perfect family, when tragedy struck she left her home behind & went on an adventure. She landed in redemption & decided it was a nice place to call home.

As the new local Librarian she started to make friends & create a new life for herself. She had noticed the sheriffs deputy from the first moment she arrived. He was very attractive & the local town hero.

Holton Clarke was attractive & there was definitely chemistry between them. One night a few drinks leads them on a journey of back & forth. Little do they both know they both have history that is stopping them from the amazing couple they could be.

Dive into this story & fall in love with Lyric & Holts ❤️❤️

Absolutely loved it! Great addition to Redemption

Another great read from Jessica Prince!

I can’t stress enough

How incredibly irritating it is to be pulled out of a story by cutesy kid speak. I’ve said it before, children learning how to speak proper grammar don’t arbitrarily add an ‘s’ to the ends of words. No child screws up a sentence this way. You’ll never hear a kid say, “I haves to goes to the bathrooms.” What they will do is try to apply rules they’ve picked up sometimes incorrectly. Which is why you might hear, “I digged it up and drug it across the ground,” instead of, “I dug it up and dragged it …” When authors make the children in their books do crap like that, it’s not sweet, or cute, or “just too adorable!” It’s saccharine in the extreme—like a Hallmark Christmas movie—causing me to skip scenes and, in some cases, to ruin books with kids as primary characters (think Frankiein A.L. Jackson’s Show Me the Way).

This series gets better and better with every book! I absolutely loved Holt & Lyric's story. As soon as it hit my kindle, I jumped in. And not far into the book, I was reminded why I love Jessica Prince's writing and the characters she creates. Lyric & Holt's story was everything I love about a great romance story! I loved Holt & Lyric, the suspense, and cameos from previous characters. I am not ready to walk away from Redemption so I hope Jessica Prince adds more stories to this series.

Read and fall in love with Lyric & Holt like I did!

Holton and Lyric....wow. What else can I say but wow! They are now one of my favorite couples. The heat with these two was so unexpected! Holy we have seen as the good guy cop, get him with lyric and it's a whole different story!
I loved these two together. There were moments of wondering why Holt decided to step away after their night together. He absolutely redeemed himself

Favorite Mistake is the eighth book in the Redemption series. I loved Lyric and Holton’s story so much. Lyric is a sassy librarian who has gone through so much and I was so happy that she found her place in Redemption. Also, I liked seeing Holton be protective of her and trying to earn her forgiveness and trust after his mistake. THe romantic suspence aspect was very interesting and the found family in the form of a group of supportive friends was delightful.

Holt and Lyric

This was the perfect addition to the Redemption series. I couldn’t wait for Deputy Holton Clarke to get his happily ever after and this book didn’t disappoint. It was a one night stand, second chance, small town romance with a little suspense thrown in.

Holton Clarke was the town hero, the deputy sheriff slated to be the next sherif, but after a tough case he no longer felt like the good guy everyone expected him to be. He was battling some demons and pushed away the one person who could understand him after a passionate night that left him scared of the feelings developing. Holt had his work cut out for him trying to mend what he broke when he pushed Lyric away. I kept waiting for him to just tell her what was in his head, but I also understood his hesitation.

Lyric ended up in Redemption as a fluke. She hadn’t had the best childhood and was searching for a place to belong when she saw Deputy Clarke at the gas station and decided to make Redemption her home. She had watched Holt lust after her best friend and resigned herself to her unrequited crush, but after a steamy night where they were both feeling vulnerable, Lyric thought it was the beginning of something special, while Holt pushed her away.

I loved that Lyric didn’t just fold when Holt kept coming back. She may have taken his offer to live in his house while she was in danger, but she didn’t give in to her feelings until she understood that Holt had regretted his actions almost immediately and was finally ready to give their relationship a chance. I loved how strong Lyric was but I also loved how vulnerable she was with Holt. I loved Holt and Lyric together and the way his family accepted her into the fold.

This was a heartwarming romance about two people finding their way. It was the perfect addition to this series!

As always, I love everything this author writes, and I'm always sucked in immediately, and this was no different. Lyric was absolutely amazing, and I really want to be friends with her in real life. She's had so much thrown at her, and she's still trying so hard to make the best of it all. She landed in this town by chance, and stayed for one particular person -- and just when she thinks she has her chance with him, it's all taken away. But it's really not for what you think, and honestly, I loved it!

Holton has always seen himself at this protector and a good guy, but when a case goes wrong and he feels responsible, he's really struggling, and nobody seems to notice.. expect for Lyric. They spend a night together and it's absolutely everything they both want, but Holt freaks out -- NOT because he's hung up on someone else, but because he just doesn't have it in him to let someone else down. I honestly really felt for him, and once everything was on the table, these two just had such a beautiful relationship!

This small town romance had a bit of everything-- all the feels, steam, humor, some suspense and even an adorable dog and all his hilarious hijinks. I just love this so much!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **

Lyric and Holton are up there as one of my favorite couples now.

Lyric had a bad childhood and some trauma that came along with it.
Holt is the the hero, town golden guy.

Lyric rolls into Redemption, not set on staying until she sees Holt. Some time later and drama from previous book- add in a hot and steamy encounter between the main characters, a little dog that will make you smile and you have the makings for the perfect book.

Lyric is so sassy, I just love her to pieces. She sets her boundaries and sticks to them after being hurt, until Holt can't take the space any longer and knocks those walls down.

The spice in the steamy encounters was not expected, but holy hotness... I loved how both gave and took while fulfilling each others needs.

I finished the book and wanted so much more of this couple. I cannot wait for Wynn's book though!

Once again this author dids it!!! I cannot believe some reviews based on someone trying to make a kid sound cute which "most" peoples like rather then the story! Anyway I love going back to Redemption and the residents of the quaint town. I really like Holt and was glad he finally got his HEA. Lyric deserved her HEA after the life prior to her finding redemption. Bonus you get to see all the old characters and the blend so well together. This book had the funny banter, sexy times, heartache, suspense and realization of what was right in front of you. Their chemistry was off the charts and Lyric knew it but it took Holton a little while to figure it out.

Not gonna lie, there were more than a few moments where I wanted to shake Holt for his decisions, which lets me know how well an author creates their characters when I want to lay hands on them in a frustrated way lol. But the further I got into the story, his choices and decisions began to make sense; doesn't mean I agree, but at least I understood. I love Lyric's character, even though my heart broke for her in regards to her past and what she went through, but it provides a clear view of the strong young woman we meet. Loved the connection and chemistry between these two, and the secondary characters help round out this fantastic addition to a great series!
