Faceless: A Spellbinding Serial Killer Thriller (The DI Rosalind Kray Series) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 3,033 ratings

As a serial killer stalks a coastal English town, a troubled detective is on the trail in this gritty crime thriller by the author of The Mechanic Trilogy.

The English seaside town of Blackpool has a dangerous side, as Detective Inspector Rosalind Kray knows all too well. After surviving a vicious knife attack which left her husband dead, Kray is now returning to work—only to be handed a serial killer investigation. But this killer doesn’t just want to take the lives of his victims, he wants to obliterate their very existence. The murders appear random, but each quarry is selected with meticulous care.

Kray has always had a unique asset in investigations like these: the ability to think like a killer. Between fighting her superiors and struggling with her own demons, Kray makes a series of horrifying discoveries that turn the case on its head. But just when she thinks she’s closing in on the killer, her world comes crashing down in ways she could never have imagined.

Rob is married to Karen with two grown up daughters. He is originally from South Wales and after moving around with work settled in North Lincolnshire.

Like all good welsh valley boys Rob worked for the National Coal Board after leaving school at sixteen and went to University at the tender age of twenty-three when the pit closures began to bite. Since then he’s worked in a variety of manufacturing and consulting roles both in the UK and abroad.

It took Rob twenty-four years to write his first book. He only became serious about writing it when his dad got cancer. It was an aggressive illness and Rob gave up work for three months to look after him and his mum. Writing Those That Remain became his coping mechanism. After he wrote the book his family encouraged him to continue, so not being one for half measures, Rob got himself made redundant, went self-employed so he could devote more time to writing and four years later the Mechanic Trilogy was the result.

Rob published Those That Remain, In Your Name and Pay the Penance with Bloodhound Books and has since written the DI Rosalind Kray series. These are Faceless, This Little Piggy, Suspended Retribution and Jaded which are also published by Bloodhound.

His latest work sees the introduction of a new set of characters – DS Khenan Malice and DC Kelly Pietersen. The first book in the series is titled Killing Pretties and the second is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Lies. Both books will be published this year.

When he is not writing, Rob is a frustrated chef with a liking for beer and prosecco, and is known for occasional outbreaks of dancing.

Once again, Rob Ashman has proved what a master he is in this genre. His Mechanic Trilogy was, by far, three of the best books that this fan has ever read! And now we have Faceless. I was already astounded by the time I had reached page 5!! The central character, Roz Fray, is a sadly conflicted woman. Her struggle touches your heart and will not let go. You just want to comfort her and tell her everything will be alright. And yet through all that she has been through, her brilliance as a DI totally shines. Even when faced with those above her in rank who have not one clue on how to apprehend the serial killer. And let me tell you this one is triple scary! The story has so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing right up to the last page. It has all the elements of a fantastic book that will make it extremely difficult to put down. I am so happy that I found this truly amazing author. And I know that there are two more books coming in the near future and for that I am ecstatic. I would love to see Roz Kray again since she is one tough lady who has more of her story to tell. Thank you Rob Ashman for an amazing book and the time spent enjoying it!!

I really liked this book, especially as it was a first in the series. Writing a story around character development is tough I have seen. But you don't truly get invested in a book unless its well written, and you get to know your characters, and feel like they're friends of a sort. (my opinion). I was able to empathize with DI Rosalind Kray! I could feel her pain, and her anger/anguish at dealing with some of her colleagues. And, I could feel the depth of her love for her husband. I am truly looking forward to further reading about Roz,and her team mates, especially as the author developed the characters so well in this book! So on to the next one!!!

This story kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of twist and turns. Loved the main character Kray. Can't wait to read more from this author.

This was a good, solid story. It had tantalizing bits and pieces of the work of a serial killer. My only complaint is the misspelling of discreetly, discreet and discretion.

An interesting story about an unconventional police woman and a very clever killer with great disguises. I was confused by the ending.

Oh my word!! To say I was terrified to read this book at night is an understatement!! How this author works out these crime scenes is unfathomable.
The way some killers minds work are beyond reason and the depths that they will go to, to get revenge. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to start the next one.

Detective Rosalind Kray is a bit of a maverick but she gets result. A most bizarre case presents itself which rocks the police department. A young woman is found dead. Her face has been cut away. Her body in a state of purification. But she is seen alive again, after her postmortem has been completed.. She won't be the only victim. A sensational book. Highly recommended.

It's a good plot and well-written although I found the new DI rather stereotype. No spoilers but she has personal

5.0 out of 5 stars Jam packed with tension and OMG moments in fact there is nothing not to like and is the best book I have read this year so far.

OMFG I am so excited for you all to read this book it is absolutely amazing and will leave you hyperventilating! I am a massive fan of Rob's Mechanic series and he has totally smashed it and brings us something that you can certainly get your teeth into..... This is without a doubt his best book by far.

You know how much I love a good prologue right?! has it always sets the scene for whats to come. Well this starts off with a brilliant prologue which kept me on tender hooks

So in this story we are introduced to DI Kaye who I adored. She is a strong kick ass character who doesn't give up I cant wait to find out more about her in the next book with her author dropping snippets of information out along the way.

Set in Blackpool a place that I love and know well so I loved the setting and felt right there in the story wiling Kaye along. The story is written with chapters told from the killers point of view. Which I have to admit I am not a big fan of unless it's done right, but Rob has totally nailed it.

Faceless will grab you round the throat and doesn't let you go until the very last page

It is dark and disturbing with some very gruesome descriptions which actually made me feel physically sick, so do be warned this isn't a book for the faint hearted. It's not every day I am half way through a book and know that it is going to be a five star read, but I did with this one.

It is jam packed with tension and OMG moments in fact there is nothing not to like and is the best book I have read this year so far.... what more can I say but this is a must read which I can not recommend enough giving it all the freaking stars.

Well done Rob I am left now dying to read the next book in the series.
