A sexy stand-alone romance from 24-time USA Today bestseller Sarina Bowen.

A year ago Hank “Hazardous” Lazarus had everything: a gorgeous girlfriend, a career as a freestyle snowboarder and a spot on the US Olympic team. Then a bad crash in the half pipe left him unable to move his legs. He lost his sport, his career, and the girlfriend, too.

He’s is in a bad way until he meets Dr. Callie Anders. Her quick smile makes him want to live again. If only she weren’t so cagey. He doesn’t know whether to punch the ex-boyfriend who hurt her, or thank the man for making her single.

Callie has never met a man who makes her heart flutter like Hank does. Every time she comes face to face with the bad boy snowboarder, it’s hard to remember that he’s off limits.

Dating him would be unprofessional. Besides, he’s out of her league. But the struggle is real. And every small town that bad boys never play by the rules...

I love Sarina Bowen's deliciously sexy heroes! New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis

Falling From the Sky is book two in the Gravity series by Sarina Bowen. This takes place in Vermont. The plot is predictable yet has enough twists to keep you from predicting everything. The characters are realistic and well developed. The book is very good for a second in a series. It makes you want to get the next book quickly.
Dr. Callie Anders has come to the snowboarding event with Dane and Willow Hollister. She knows little about the sport but spending time with Dane and Willow is fun anyway. Before the experts take the field, Dane introduces her to Hazardous Lazard, a silver Olympic medalist. He is gorgeous but he is relatively cool to the introduction. A short while later, the experts take the field and Callie is definitely impressed and sees the difference between the ones she saw first and these men. When Hazardous takes his turn, he makes snowboarding look so easy and yet mesmerizing. He is very good. Then he doesn’t hit the rim right and takes a fall towards the bottom of the pipe. Immediately he is surrounded by medical personnel. Callie, though not needed, fears the worst for Hazardous.
The next time Callie sees Hank, he is unconscious in a hospital bed. Callie is the hospital doctor who monitors everything that happens to him. When he finally wakes up, he does not recognize Callie and she doesn’t tell him they have met. There is a connection between them that strengthens when she confronts his parents and gets them to back off for at least a while. Hank is devastated at not being able to even walk and definitely hopes he will be among the lucky ones who walk within a year. He does develop an attraction to Callie and asks her for a date; but citing doctor-patient relations rules, she refuses. He doesn’t give up but waits for his next opportunity when she isn’t his doctor.

This book kept me interested all the way through. Much of it was also uncomfortable, which is natural, given the subject. Perhaps having a handicapped relative made the discomfort stronger. Nevertheless, everything about the love story flowed naturally and believably. It's refreshing to see a couple's love unfold gradually as they get to know each other, doubts and fears included, instead of falling instantly in lust and never progressing much further. Kudos, Sarina Bowen!

This is the second book in the Gravity series. Callie is a doctor who feels very much alone. Her ex dumped her many months ago after she caught him cheating with a nurse; the two are now planning their wedding. (He wasn't a big loss; he was nice to have around and convenient, but the relationship wasn't earth-shattering). Callie's best friend (the heroine from the first book in the series) has moved out of state with her family. Callie has very little opportunity to find a new man, due both to slim pickings in the small Vermont town where she lives and the fact that she's always working, taking extra shifts and overtime to pay down her student loans. When the story opens she's enjoying rare time for herself, attending a snowboard competition with her visiting best friend and her family. The husband (who's a competitive skier) introduces her to his friend Hank (nickname Hazardous). During Hank's up-to-that-point amazing run, he has an accident and suffers a spinal injury that leaves him unable to walk. During his hospital stay Hank meets Callie again (and doesn't remember meeting her before the accident). Their beautiful love story gradually unfolds, and is very satisfying, believable, and heartwarming. The only thing I'd change is how civil and accommodating Callie was to her ex. (He frequently wanted her to take over a shift or patient for him, sometimes at short notice, and she always agreed. I know she wanted to pay down her debt, but I felt she was being too nice. There was also a point in the story when I think she should've slapped him. If you read the book, I'm sure you'll figure out which scene I'm talking about. I enjoyed this one.

I've loved all of Sarina Bowen's Ivy Years series, and I picked this book up purely because of its author. (I haven't read the first book in the series because the premise of this one appealed to me more).

This book had some great elements (eg. the hero), but also some annoying things about it (eg. the heroine). Hank's struggle to deal with his disability and his strong feelings for Callie made for an emotional read, but I never really understood why he developed those feelings in the first place. Yes, he thinks she's hot, and she stands up to his overbearing parents in the aftermath of his injury, but I didn't feel any real spark or connection between them that would justify his continuing interest in Callie.

Callie has nothing in her life except work because she can't find anything better to do with herself in her free time. She thinks she's boring and I have to agree with her. I don't mind a heroine who is lonely or wary of relationships or whatever, but one who has no enthusiasms or activities that she enjoys is not someone who I can see holding the hero's interest if she can't hold mine. And once she has found the most gorgeous guy she could hope to meet, what does she do but push him away for professional reasons which could be overcome with some care and common sense. I really lost patience with her.

I took several attempts to finish this book because it just wasn't that compelling, unlike Bowen's New Adult romances, which are one-sitting-marathon-type reads for me. The writing is fine but I just wish Callie had been more of a match for Hank. I may try the next book in the series though, because Hank's sister Stella, in her brief appearances in this book, provided welcome flashes of humour and strong-willed attitude. I'm not giving up on Sarina Bowen, but this is not one of her best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, Sexy Wounded Hero

Very good in showing the issues involved in the process of adjusting oneself to paralysis. On the other hand, I did not connect very well with the heroine, I think the narrative tone somewhat got me distanced from her, Hank's voice was more agreeable and reached me with more ease. The book has very good moments, but it's not likely that it goes to my rereading shelf. Then I rate it three and a half stars.

I am so into this series. This is the second book (can be read as a standalone but the first book was awesome, so if you haven't read it I would highly recommend it) and focuses on Hank 'Hazardous' Lazarus - this has to be one of the best hero names ever- and Dr Callie Anders. Hank is a friend of Dane from the first book and Callie was the fabulous best friend of Willow from the same novel.

In the previous story, Callie was portrayed as loyal, vivacious and sweet and this continued here but it was tempered with showing her as being quite cautious. It felt like she was more reserved in her own book. Hank is in a dark place following his devastating injury sustained whilst snow boarding. It's heart breaking to see him struggle with all the changes happening in his life but fascinating to watch him fall in love with Callie. You see glimpses of the old Hazardous but the new Hazardous is just....wow. He is the polar opposite of Callie but they blend so well together. Hank is adventurous, a little bit reckless even. He is brave, fun and the man was renowned for his hard partying apres ski(boarding). He is loyal to those he loves and the same can be said of Callie but her character is more cautious and measured. Hank helps her to loosen up and when she allows herself to she can be pretty sassy.

The supporting characters are intriguing - Bear and Stella are up next. Sarina Bowen is one of the best authors at depicting scenes and at weaving all the subtle dynamics between characters through the pages of her books.

This is a lovely book. Sexy, sweet and thought provoking too.

HEA? Yes. The ending to this book made me smile - beaming big smile.
Cheating? No

I really love how Sarina Bowen writes so I knew I was in for a treat. I had read reviews on this book and some were not very positive so I went in with an open mind and wow! I truly loved this from beginning to end, i really connected with the characters. My heart broke for Hank, in his prime and at the top of his game when tragedy struck. His story was so positive and my heart broke for him and what he went through, his struggles were real. Such a heartwarming, positive read
