Customers are dissatisfied with the noise produced by the radar detector. They mention that the windshield mount is noisy, the unit is heavy, and the sound is pretty much a constant buzzing sound. Some say that the voice is now too low to hear, and that the detector never made a sound, alert or light.
"...The MAX’s audio is not as clear nor is it as loud as the 9500 or IQ – and is easily overridden by moderate nose levels – to include music, open..." Read more

"...cops around bends, sensitivity can be adjusted, alerts sounds are automatically lowered so it doesn't drive you insane...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the stability of the radar detector. For example, they mention it wobbles up and down, flops around on its mount, and bounces around. The mount is horrible and the unit bounces. When they accelerate, the detector would shake and vibrate. The bottom part of the case is falling off. It makes it hard to read. The quality of build is poor and the detector bounces on its Mount.
"...When I'd accelerate the detector would shake and vibrate, visually and audibly...." Read more
"...This can cause the frequency to shift slightly...." Read more
"...For some reason, the bottom part of the case is falling off. I think the first time I saw it come apart was when i hit a pothole...." Read more

Let's start with the bad:
The mount- it's good in the sense that it grips the windshield well. It's piss poor in terms of gripping the detector. When I'd accelerate the detector would shake and vibrate, visually and audibly. Additionally, the mount only pivots up and down, and not side to side. For a detector worth $300+, you'd think they'd have field tested that part a bit better.
The android app- the app is certainly useful but poorly designed and counter-intuitive in many ways. Sometimes the speed limit displays on the detector when connected to the app, sometimes not- no way to know why. Also, the app won't run when it's minimized unless you play with the settings, and then the app will ALWAYS stay running, regardless of if it's closed. I just want it to run all the time when it's open- is that so much to ask? You can't use the app for navigation so when I minimize it to use Waze I need to check that "Run in Background" setting and remember to uncheck it before I close the app. The app makes OBNOXIOUS noises when you get a radar alert on top of the noise that the detector is making. WTF? It took me forever to silence the noises because you need to mute each individual radar band type noise in the settings. Randomly it started making noise again- so it looks like I'm going to have to keep digging into the issue.
The good- Let's start with actual detection. This thing is spot on. Catches cops around bends, sensitivity can be adjusted, alerts sounds are automatically lowered so it doesn't drive you insane. It actually does detect and lock out false signals. I use it on the Auto NoX setting in NYC and it's as quiet as a sinner in church. It's a great detector, I've used cheap crap and this definitely shows its value. Muting alerts works well, and you can lock out falses manually. It's pre-installed map has got MOST of the speed cameras and all of the red light cameras in Queens. I add manually any cameras that Waze tells me about because Waze tends to be more up to date. I usually use the detector and Waze together, and I speed often. No tickets yet.
Hard-wiring- uses a standard Cat-4 phone cable, and the detector has a surge protector in case you wire it wrong. Relatively easy to hardwire this thing any way you like, and you can cut your own cable or order any knock off on ebay if you don't want to pay for the official Passport cable.
Bottom Line- can't speak for the valentin, but this is a great detector for the money. There could be some improvements as listed above, but buy with confidence (esp. if it's on sale) and drive in comfort.
I have spent the last 3 years running an Escort Smartradar Android with Escort Live (EL) and things were good. Last year I lost the Bluetooth connection to EL. No problem, I just ran EL and manually reported police encounters. Then last month I found the GPS sync was erratic and I decided to research replacement options. While researching I found that Escort had released app EL Android 2.1.6 and rushed EL Android 2.1.7 out this past week.
I decided I would like to have the Escort Max 360; however I have a real problem paying almost $700 for an inferior radar detector to the Escort RedLine in performance since it is not RDD stealth. Are you listening Cincinnati Microwave?
Just my luck Big Box BB decided to liquidate their Escort Max2 inventory with a 30% mark down to $429 and Amazon price matched the mark down. BB does not like my credit ratio or something even with a FICO of 830, so instead of 12 month same as cash I took Amazon Store card 6 months and Prime delivery.
Ok, yesterday the Escort Max2 arrives in the mail on time. I pull it out and sync with EL. I cleared all the filters and just have X, K , Ka & Laser checked. I take off on a 25 mile roundtrip to a friend’s home for dinner. As I exit the neighborhood I am hit with a K band signal that continues to ramp up for 6 blocks before I pass the unmarked unit rolling towards me. First save of over a mile on K band. Next I pass the CVS & WG doors the Escort Smartradar Android with Escort Live (EL) still reported even after a multitude of passes over the past 3 years. Past the Airport and another CVS. Returned vis a diferent route with one more K band false from the Escort Smartradar Android with Escort Live (EL) in the past.
Here it is folks, out of the box and all filters removed the Escort Max2 had 1 legitimate K Band alert of over a mile and ZERO false alerts and I did nothing. I am running this just like the Escort Smartradar which would have caught the K band alert and at least 8 false alerts in the 25 mile trip.
Escort Max2 is my new Co-Pilot!
Welcome Aboard!
Update:
Trip from Indianapolis to Louisville; only two alerts for Your Speed Signs in 124 miles of travel on I-65. The Escort Passport Max2 is worth the money just in the number of eliminated false alerts let alone the saves.
My average drive each way is about 50 miles, mostly highway and toll roads.
If my Radar does stop working, or if I do finally decide I need to upgrade. I will buy again.
My colder model can pick-up police before I can see them (on straight flat roads), roughly guessing anywhere from 1-3 miles. Depends on how they have their radar, and other conditions. Some police point their radars downward and in an angle away, while hiding behind an object (in a u-turn area on a highway). This limits your chances of receiving the beam or a reflection. With these tricks, use of the app or a similar app helps.
I liked the Bluetooth power adapter and how it connected to my phone to update when the radar detected a police.
The design is OK, but I prefer the design of the older models 8500 and 9500 models.
