Enter the Dark: A Stunning, Fast-Paced Thriller Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 243 ratings

“Hurtle[s] full speed into the eye-opening world of the deep/dark web . . . Stomach clenchingly gruesome, Enter the Dark is a modern chiller thriller.” —The Book Magnet

An anonymous website, a few clicks, and Joe Henderson’s life is changed forever.

The Red Room is the only place where the failings of a weak justice system are righted and where the line between good and evil becomes blurred. When the lights go up, viewers bid, criminals are punished, and the Brotherhood of the Righteous broadcasts a show like no other.

The room has remained hidden until now, when a video arrives in the inbox of the Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit. But outclassed, outplayed, and torn apart by corruption, is there anything Detective Pete Harris and his team can do except watch?

Their only lead may be the room’s latest bidder, Joe Henderson. Because when Joe found the Red Room, it found him too, and now the Brotherhood are watching through the wires, willing to do wrong for a righteous cause.

As they pull Joe deeper into the dark web, will he find any mercy or a way out? And could he be the Red Room’s next volunteer?

“This book is like nothing I’ve ever read before and it’s absolutely mind-blowingly brilliant! It is genius, unique, highly original and incredibly captivating! . . . This is a brilliantly executed plot which had me glued to the pages throughout. Utterly gripping, compelling and absorbing.” —Novel Deelights

About the Author

Chris Thomas was born near London in 1978 before moving to Buckinghamshire a few months later. He attended the University of Bristol, graduating with a degree in psychology in 1999. Chris is an avid film fan, especially horror, thrillers and dark comedy- something that he tries to blend in his writing. After attending a creative writing course, he gained the confidence to pursue his dream of writing a novel. He self-published his debut novel The Red Room in February 2017 before joining the Bloodhound Books stable and re-releasing the book as Enter The Dark. Further works are already in the planning, including a sequel to Enter The Dark, which is intended to be even more dark and disturbing! In his spare time, Chris enjoys karate (holding a black belt) and spending time with his wife and two young daughters.

Chris Thomas was born in England in 1978 and lives near Londonwith his wife and children. He graduated from Bristol University with a degree in psychology before moving into a career in business.

After much deliberation over embarking on a journey into writing novels, and much encouragement/persuading from his wife, he self-published his debut novel 'The Red Room' - a dark crime thriller about a shadowy organisation operating a "game show" on the dark web, and a young man that they drag down into their world.

The Red Room was then taken on by Bloodhound Books and re-published under it's new title and cover: Enter The Dark.

The Edge of Sanity , the sequel to Enter The Dark, was released in August 2018.

I won't go into the plot of Enter the Dark as I personally find that annoying in a review of a book or movie. Instead I will say that this book is exciting, well written and a thrilling page turner that you won't be able to put down until you are finished. If you are squeamish than this book is not for you, but you will actually find yourself somewhat rooting for the (bad) guys. An exciting read that will keep you glued to it until the end. An ending you won't see coming.

I have to say, it was a very dark read but brilliantly executed. I was definitely of the opinion that you need a strong stomach as it was quite descriptive for the torture scenes. Very worrying and scary to think that the dark web exists and only God knows what is available on there! Sick people in this world and this book brings it closer to home.

Definitely made me think and appreciate what I have!

The writing style is sophisticated, yet approachable. The many storylines are woven together beautifully with twists and turns galore. The mark of a well written book is that twinge of melancholy that you get as the last page approaches. I had that in spades for this book. Great characters, great dialogue, great plot. Loved this book!

As dark as this story is, it's good to know that in the end, the good guys will prevail (albeit with a real surprise at the end).

Truly 5 Stars!

I don't normally like to do reviews because I think books are personal and what one enjoys, another may not. I enjoyed this book very much even though it was a disturbing storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping thriller

We are given a number of scenes running in parallel, of instances of drug trafficking, sex slavery, child prostitution – nasty people doing abusive things. Joe, introduced to the Dark Web by a friend, becomes drawn in to a paying site called The Red Room, which costs him more than money. Harris, a detective newly back on duty after losing his wife, is chasing it up and connecting the dots.

This is a gripping thriller and covers a wide range of issues. The writing was a touch clunky in places and I didn’t buy the main premise that Joe, a man due to marry in a few months, would have paid over £600 to enter a site which was, at that stage, anonymous. He had no idea what would be behind the façade. Once I persuaded myself to swallow that, the story had a great impetus and came to an exciting conclusion. Well worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting debut novel
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 28, 2017
I loved this read, from beginning to end... just simply compelling and one of the best reads this year.  Once you get started you are so drawn in and I really didn't want to put it down. A very strong novel indeed.
You know about the internet and web, but what is lurking underneath within the bowels of the deep web, is somewhere I do not want to enter, apart from in captivating storylines and this has it in spades!
It is a pacey, riveting and absorbing read. there really was a tangled woven tale of deceit and within it I was questioning the morality of a take on strengthening a justice system
Working out who to believe was captivating and the storylines are deliciously dark and edgy.
The cast ofcharacters were fascinating, especially Joe Henderson, and how his inquisitiveness led him into a criminal underworld he hadn't previously known existed.
This is an exciting read with layers of intrigue and unrest. and where stumbling in to the dark web may not be the wisest move for Joe, but he does lead us to one exciting action paced read.
An author that I shall be looking out for!  A book I shall be shouting about for a long time and telling my family and friends to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book who is looking for a unique twist to their crime fiction.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2017
Another debut novelist from Bloodhound Books, and one who shows he has a flare for the dark, macabre and twisted. Chris has written a unique tale of justice and revenge that I flew through and thoroughly enjoyed.

Hidden in the Dark Web is a show where justice is hammered, sliced and stabbed into 'volunteers' who have escaped justice from the police/courts. Whilst knowing seeking your own revenge isn't the right thing to do, those on the receiving end of this type of justice really do deserve what is coming to them, and I could see why The Brotherhood did what they did.

This is indeed a dark book. It's violent, graphic (the hand was really inventive though,) and doesn't shy away from why the volunteers were chosen to take part. It made me wonder how many people would choose to watch and pay for such a show if it were real - and I think the answer would be many.

I highly recommend this book who is looking for a unique twist to their crime fiction, and to those who enjoy their fiction on the dark side. It's going to take a lot to knock this book off my top read of the year spot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Wow. Wow
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 30, 2017
Not for the faint hearted, this is a book telling the story of the very dark side of criminals and of the dark side of the internet. Very fast paced and compulsive, once into the story, I could not put it down, and finished it in two sessions. Cannot outline the story without spoiling it, but it is brilliant, really clever and the ending is nothing that I expected, even the very ending revealed a twist that left me breathless. If you like crime tales then you must read this, but be warned it is not a cozy mystery, but an uncomfortable insight into high level cyber crime. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
